I'd move there in a heartbeat if I had the right opportunity. I would prefer the Innisfil area (south, small townish) but it's been expanding rapidly. It's becoming somewhat of a bedroom community. I'm the wrong guy to ask about the fishing there... Simcoe has my number. I keep hearing rumours of 6lb smallies, 9lb lakers etc. but all I ever get is small pike! If you're into ice fishing , it's okay, I guess. There seems to be some odd politics going on regarding fishing in the area but from a distance it looks as if locals are less impacted by it. Innisfil Beach for instance... over $20 to launch and park but free for locals. -Brian

I'm looking for a scotch that will put hair back on my head! I think the best advice so far is to ask what he likes. It would suck to spend $100 on a bottle only to find him in the garage next summer using it to remove paint off an old muskoka chair. -Brian

Watch out for plastic cam locks for the leg extensions - especially if you're going to use it in the cold. Look for smooth tilt/swivel adjustments.... like a smooth drag on a reel. I have had two cheap tripods, both had the cam locks break rendering them useless. My third was purchased used from a small camara shop for a little more than the price of a cheap new one. It has thumb screw locks that hold the extruded aluminium legs firmly. Tilt and swivel functions are very fluid making fine adjustments much less frustrating. It was older model tripod and I gave up the convenience of the quick release but gained in other areas. As luck would have it, I googled while typing this message and came up with the same tripod as mine. Used for $35 in Kitchener... http://kitchener.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-...QQAdIdZ27486493 It should be easy to find a nice used one in your area for the same price of a new cheap model. -Brian **EDIT** I should add that the cam locks aren't bad in all tripods but are the weak link in the cheap ones.

Okay, it took a little while to find this for Emil's motor.... No bearing, no bushings, no alternator... The reason for my persistance is not so much to prove I'm right but because Emil had asked me through email about where to find the alternator... everyone keeps talking about an alternator. There is no dang alternator! LOL!!!

Great post, thanks for the link!

We'll agree to disagree. Next year we can discuss it further while fishing from my boat that does not have an alternator or a regulator! -Brian

The selection process would have been the same in my case but as I understand it they only select jurors once a week outside the GTA area. Those not selected would be sent home and in some cases called back the following Monday. I think I was fortunate that this court only had one case to select for as other cases may have lapsed over the holidays. From talking to other perspective jurors, if you call in advance and offer to juror at a later date (bad timing, travel, financial reasons etc) they will most likely give you options. If you select the last available date before Christmas you are likely up for a very short trial if you are even selected. Then you're off the hook until the next time. -Brian

LOL!! Pretty harsh judges eh?... I don't think I'd want to face them from the penelty box either! I'm sure seasoned judges have heard every excuse in the book (twice) and have a hard time fine tuning thier Bull meters to seperate the legit from the bogus. -Brian

Your motor is a circus side show act... find another outboard with a 6-71 blower on it! I'm almost confindent enough to say ALL OTHER outboards don't have an alternator.
-
As much as I didn't want to be there, I do believe in the civic duty thing. It would have been tough financially (unpaid for time off) but 5-10 days wouldn't have killed me. With all due respect, I wouldn't want anyone thinking of me as a racist let alone a courtroom full. -Brian

There is no housing. There are no bearings or bushings. You are absolutely correct about a few nuts and bolts... washers may very by manufacturer. The stator is stationary and the rotor is motor driven. The rectifier and regulator (if equipped) are not packaged neatly together within a housing (with stator and rotor) as you would find in an alternator.
-
It's actually a stator and rotor but we'll let it slide.

As Jack Bauer would say: "The following took place between 9AM and 10AM" Everyone arrived at the court house. The registrar "Sandy" was a nice older fella with a good sense of humour. Knowing that most people in the room didn't want to be there, he made us aware of the timelines and probabilities. Without giving up too much information he stated it was not a homicide case and if it did go to trial by jury we could expect between five and ten days. We would not be held over for Christmas. Sandy took attendance, there were approximately a hundred people in the room with about six no-shows. We were then let out for a break. In the hall. Instructed not to leave the floor. I need a smoke. "The following took place between 10AM and 11AM" We filed back into the courtroom for the Judge's grand entrance. She was fashionably late. I still need a smoke. About 35 minutes later one of the court officers let us know that she was in another courtroom dealing with this case. I began to ponder if that was good news or bad news and then I thought to myself... I need a smoke. The court officer was doing his best to keep the mood light as he could see most of us were growing impatiant and/or needing a smoke. He was taking questions about the process when somebody asked what the Latin writings meant on the crest above the bench.... It was entertaining to hear a women behind me who happened to be retired from the linguistic speech pathology field pontificate on the meanings of these writings. It turns out it's French and she wasn't even close! Dieu et mon droit (French for ‘God and my right’) is the motto of the Sovereign and dates from the time of King Henry V (reigned 1413-1422). The motto appears below the shield on the Royal Coat of Arms. Honi soit qui mal y pense (French for ‘Shame on him who thinks this evil’) appears on a garter which surrounds the shield on the Royal Coat of Arms. This garter symbolises the Order of the Garter, an ancient order of knighthood of which the Queen is sovereign. The story behind the garter is that Edward III was dancing with a lady (which lady differs: usually thought to be the Countess of Salisbury) when her garter fell to the ground, and he picked it up and tied it to his own leg to save her embarrassment from the laughing courtiers. In defense of his actions, he said "Honi soit qui mal y pense:" "Ashamed be [he] who thinks evil there." So, that lesson burned up a few more minutes. I need a smoke. "The following took place between 11AM and 11:05AM" One of the side doors opens and in comes the court reporter followed by some clerks and (make your own trumpet sounds) Here comes the Judge! She spoke for a few moments and thanked us all for participating in this process. It seems the defendent has elected not to face trial by jury and we're free to go. 100+ people and three elevators... I took the stairs down 14 floors. I earned that smoke. -Brian

I get to go play juror #5064 today. What are the odds of this being my stolen Jeep case from January 31?

You have been lurking! What part of London are you from? -Brian
-
A proper pre-trip inspection could have prevented this near tragedy. How would you feel if this happened on the highway?
-
Hmmm, ideas. What about a brass cup brush on an angle grinder? Or would I benefit more from a low speed drill press?

I wouldn't bother with the front battery charging from the kicker. A good deep cycle battery should run your electric trolling motor all day. If you just wanted to connect anything else to it (VHF) it would last considerably longer. If you have your heart set on charging it you can add a battery switch. I don't know when my wife and I could make it to your place. She works friday nights/saturday days and some sundays. I work Sundays. The next day we have off together is Dec. 23 and we'll be at Lake Simcoe. I haven't been hiding her but maybe I should! When I took her to the London swill, JohnF was hitting on her. It worked out well for everyone however - she was flattered and occupied with JohnF while I could talk about fishing with the guys who actually do fish!! We'll get together one of these days! -Brian

I don't know where you're getting those CTC garbage bags for free, they usual cost me about $40! I have had my share of experience working around holes that other people have drilled for accessories or by mistake. I'm pretty anal about it when I drill. In fact, when I mounted my VHF antenna I did it so it could be removed and utilize the holes for an additional set of 24" tracks. I will probably move my 24's forward and replace them with 36's for the riggers and saltys. The 24's will be for front rod holders and a quick release VHF antenna mount. Now I just have to find a solution for all the holes in my fiberglass console. Do you have a source for brushed aluminium? I was thinking a thin gauge overlay glued on the surface. -Brian
-
Where does the tape deck go on that dash? Emil, don't worry about drilling holes. If you make a mistake, that's where you put a rod holder.

I get to work on my boat tomorrow! I have to get it ready for storage while I still can. The ice and snow is melting nicely today.
