Thought they were up primarily due to unusual thaw in Jan rather than extra precip? That said, we are what 4x avg snowfall in feb. Not sure what vegas is predicting but my bet us that levels recover from last year but not quite back to normal.

Just booked the annual week long trip to Pigeon. Its a family thing but lots of fishing involved. My dad has a trailer on Pigeon as well so he and I will spend a couple weekends ahead of that trip on Crappie and Walleye. Will also hit up a lake we used to cottage on in the Bancroft area for a day to get some pike in June. Beyond that not clear yet. Maybe Nipissing again, likely BoQ in fall but don't want to think that far yet. Oh, and of course, want to get in some more local fishing. -

ahhh, who am I foolin even with my ugly practical gear I still get no fish lol

have to go practical. the boat looks best when its full of fish so I choose whatever will get me that no matter how ugly.

According to this very scientific study, the majority of people think that fishing is a sport...should we lobby the International Olympic Committee to add it to the next olympics lol ? I think we could lock up another gold medal for Canada...

Was on nosbonsing last week....slow and and incredibly light bite. We were getting some decent perch on small minnows with tiny black jig heads and pike on dead and live minnows. We could feel the fish and seemed that they were taking minnows and spitting before we could hook up. Not much luck with jigging spoons. Can't offer much more than that. Good luck.

Ontario Out of Doors is great because it is Ontario and has a lot of local info., etc. but agree w/gbay...a lot of repetition and too many "techniques" is confusing sometimes but I still subscribe. I think it is still worth it for $25/yr and 10 issues to have something to read.

thx a lot for the help. taper, left you pm. leaning lowrance right now just cause of familiarity and likely to upgrade but will have to check out the others as well. Greg

I haven't fished either but would recommend sturgeon.... I fish pigeon a lot which is right beside it and do get into some pickerel, the odd musky and lots of bass (SMB and LMB). Also, I find getting into nice pike can be tough in July when things heat up so haven't had much success that late. Good luck.

I am looking to purchase my first GPS unit. I would like it more for water but would like it to be dual purpose- for car and boat- so I can get more use out of it. I also want to spend under $500 so I like the price of this. Has anyone tried the Lowrance XOG? They have this unit at Radioworld for $279 and I am interested but just want to see if anyone has anything good or bad to say about the unit. Here is the link to the unit I am looking at: Lowrance XOG Thanks Greg

If Clems was a bit smarter he might have a chance... too bad though, what a player and a great career will be ruined. There are many others that did the same but didnt get caught

Now that is an athlete

I have fished some cold (and extremely hot days for that matter) that relied on physical capabilities to battle the elements... have also had some severe hangovers to contend with lol

This is good news. Thx for sharing.

I hear ya, 20 to 30 days at best for me...

Definitely my dad. He has taught me everything I know about fishing and can still outfish me on most days. His passion for fishing and being up north is unbelievable. Nice LMB from Pigeon Lake where he has had a trailer for the past 3 yrs Nice Walleye from our Nipissing trip in spring 2007

Tried the Aqua-vu scout. Was great but a lot of glare outside so have to have face right up to machine, unlike sonar/vex, so it prevents you from fishing while you view which makes it a bit of a time waster. However, it is lots of fun and really useful to see structure and fish. Would recommend quad so don't have to spend time turning the camera. Hopefully prices start coming down on these units.

me too, pigeon has a lot of them.

even worse is the lobby groups that support the lousy birds.... http://network.bestfriends.org/canada/news/2493.html and besides destroying the fish populations...what goes in must come out and pollute the water

Eagle Cuda 168 portable is a nice little unit if you want good bang for the buck. Radioworld has it for $109 ($150 or so at Cdn Tire and Bass Pro) and it takes 8 AA batteries, is very small and light. Would do the job for depth, temp, structure in a canoe.

nice! all of the essentials for a well balanced meal
