  1. Welcome aboard. Enjoy all the great posts and pics. I am sure you will find some other anglers from your neck of the woods.
  2. I support the sentiment, but I really fail to see this issue gaining legs guys. We have a health care system in the crapper A sinking economy Rising energy costs An enviroment that needs some fixing An education systme only slightly better then developing country and I fail to see how access to water will be the nail in the coffin
  3. We were fishing for smallies last Monday and Michelle had a rather large Musky dart out from behind a rock and take a swipe at her bass. Lots of smallies up and down the gorge.
  4. "Male and female pike are similar in appearance, and both are variable in color. A fish from a deal stream or lake will usually be light green, whereas one from a dark slough or river will be considerably darker. The underparts are whitish or yellowish The markings on the sides form irregular rows ol yellow or gold spots. Pike with a silvery or blue color variation are occasionally encountered and are known as silver pike." A little excert from an article I have. Just a colour variation. May be due to habitat, water conditions (ph level, minerals etc.) or forage.
  5. I think doe tails would be fine as well. Thanks
  6. Guys, Thanks for all the great tips. The request was made in an effort to recycle some of the tails that would be left in the bush or end up in landfill. A low quality tail only costs 5.99 and a high quality, died tail can be had for 11.99. I like the idea of of furrier for some of my other furs. I do have some traper friends who are pretty good with fox, mink etc. I usaully harvest my own squirrel tails from the guys that don't make it accross the road in time. I really enjoy tying and catching fish with my own creations. It is something to do in the winter when we can't get out on the ice. If you have never tried, it is a lot of fun. You can buy all the basic tools for about $75.00 - A cheap vice, 2 bobins, decent scissors, a hackle, finishing whip etc. Depending what you are intrested in tying, you can either buy the basics locally - hooks, feathers etc at a place like Grind Stone in Waterdown or if you want to make some jigs a place like Jann's NetCraft is a good place to start.
  7. Saw a young Cormrant gobbling up round gobbies yesteray off of a pier. Now if we could only train them all to eat Rusty Crayfish and gobbies.
  8. This has been a pretty busy fishing season for you.
  9. Check out some Torpedo Diver's. We used them last week for Lake Trout and they work awesome. Way less drag then a Dipsy - Got them at J.B.'s.
  10. We saw a documnetry on the CBC about this earlier this year. I can't believe that this is possible in the 21st century.
  11. Congrats on the first time catch! By spring you will be a full blown steel head snob. LOL
  12. French River basin, when the pinks are running is IMHO the best place in the province for high % hook ups, but I have never fished the Ottawa River or Upper Niagara.
  13. Just getting ready to start tying some jigs for winter brookies and walleye. Before I purchase some more buck tails, I was wondering if any of the hunters on the board have some extra's from previous years, or would be willing to set aside this years tails for me. It is illegal for me to purchase them from you, I could however say thanks with some new jigs or some nice hand made in line spinners. Michelle and I have been making our own spinners , jigs and flies for a few years now.
  14. Michelle and I have caught: Steel Head Brook Trout Lake Trout Brown Trout Walleye Northern Pike Largemouth Bass Smallmouth Bass Rock Bass Yellow Perch Burbot White Fish 12 Species - Only missing some Musky and salmon but I don't think we will have the chance to target them this fall. (we don't target carp/suckers/cat fish or chanel cats)
  15. The Tracker doesn't have a deep hull, you may regret this if the wind and waves pick up. The etra room would be nice but it won't make a difference if you can't be out on the water when it is a little rough.
  16. Anyone bought this unit yet...It is 1/2 price. Michelle and I need a new one, would like to get some feed back about this unit.
  17. I know the local sportsman association run some Steelhead programs, not sure about pacific salmon.
  18. Great Report, looks like an awesome day on the water.
  19. Awesome fish Cliff! Where is the nail polish?
  20. Big Reason, Lack of Restocking. More focus on the Rainbow/Steelhead population by the local anglers associations' then there is on Pacfic Salmon. I have also heard that the Provincial Gov. has spent less money and energy on restocking pacific salmon and are eyeing up another attempt at re-introduucing the atlantic salmon. My understanding is that Atlantic Salmon are less tollerant of polution and that is why they have not done well in Lake O, maybe they would be a better candidate in G Bay.
