  1. Picked up some Scott rod holders for$13!! Sorry, none left in the London /St. Thomas area
  2. Thanks for all the input, I went with a 1/2" piece of PT plywood. Seems pretty sturdy to me
  3. Mostly going to be smaller lakes but the odd trip to Erie BoQ etc. Best to be on the safe side
  4. So 2-1 for backing! I've got plenty of old wood lying around so going to get out the saw...
  5. So I am pimping out the new Crestliner and am wondering if I need a backing plate under the dash for my Ram mount. Typical fiberglass dashboard and I'm installing a Lowrance Elite 7. Is it OK to just drill the holes and regular old SS bolt and washer combo or do I need some extra strength back there?
  6. 15 more days til I'm heading up there with Slowpoke and Dutchy. This ought to hold me over until then I hope. Fantastic report, can't wait to see it all for myself!
  7. Stampede ranch on Woodlawn east of the Hanlon expwy
  8. Thanks guys I've tried both but to no avail! Couldn't understand why it was not working. Next thing to occur to me was to check the toggle switch I bought.... Bingo!
  9. I've got a used golf cart 36V electric (6 x 6volt batteries) and I'm tying to wire in an Led headlight. I'm having issues finding th correct placement of the power an ground wires. The Led will run on 3-30 volt systems so it's just a matter of isolating a battery or two, however for some reason all my electrical knowledge has some how leaked out of my brain this week. Any electronics people have a suggestion for me? Thanks
  10. I drive past once or twice a week (since x-mas) and there seems to be at least one hut out there each time, but I've got no idea how they're doing. sorry!
  11. This tactic has been working great for me lately, in fact, I have not received a telemarketers call since before Christmas. When you see "unknown caller" or any number you don't recognize come up on your display, pick up the phone and answer it in your most official voice with "RCMP telephone fraud division, how can I help you?" The next sound you will hear is a click or a beep as the person on the other end hangs up the phone as quick as they can to avoid the call being traced. Then they take your number off their list, and it seems they might be passing the info around since I went from almost a call or more a day to nothing! Unfortunately it does not work for the "congratulations you've won a free cruise" or any other robo-calls.....
  12. Entropy, take the drive to Lindsay, (the roads are fine) I've delivered 50 or so skids of salt there in the past 2 weeks including 22 this morning,(just my truck there are others making the trip as well) I was the most popular guy in Ottawa at a couple stores today when I showed up with salt this afternoon. Problem with the salt is that ALL the roads into Goderich where the salt mine is, were closed last week from Monday afternoon until Wednesday night. Cost me a run out east as well as the other 60 or so trucks that would be hauling it each day for 2and a half days....
  13. Thanks for the info Moosebunk. It was your trip report last year that inspired me to get off my butt and scratch this trip off my bucket list. my boat is a bit small (I know it's limits) but I'm sure that I'll manage well enough up there, I'm already looking for a larger gas tank to see me out to the lake and back which will last me more than one trip LOL Not really a big 'eye fan but that probably because I've never really targeted them, Big pike are another story, it'll be tough to top my PB of 50" but this will be the place to try. Have all the gear for big lakers, riggers, dipseys, and heavy jigging gear etc, Hoping most of all to get at least one or 2 trophy Brook trout. Probably not the ideal time to be searching for them but that's the time vacation falls for 2 of us, (plane travel is involved for one coming from Holland) Having the winds cooperate will be the biggest hurdle for us.
  14. Thanks for the info guys, camping was discussed but not an option with my uncle otherwise i myself would have gone that route. Looked at Royal Windsor as well but couldn't find all that much info on it. I'm bringing my boat up, A 14' Lund SC and know it's limits on big water. I am leaning towards Onaman since they have access to several back lakes and cached boats as well as a guide service and a charter boat which will help out if the weather turns rotten for a few days. West side of the lake there, which may be prone to more wind and a few kms of river travel to get to the main lake at Humbolt Bay which looks somewhat protected. Orient bay at the south seems to have a longer run to the main lake and a North wind would make for a nasty run out to the main lake to hit up the speck spots. Spincast, can you send me any info you think I could use? I was just talking to Slowpoke today and he said you had just booked a trip up there as well LOL I'm sure I've read Moosebunks report but am going to look it up again LOL Thanks Jjcanoe
  15. Third that opinion, a few extra holes drilled into the transom saver (plastic board) to fine tune your transducer once you get out on the water will save you a bunch of headaches later. Best $14.99 I ever spent! Jjcanoe
  16. Going to make the LONG drive up to Lake Nipigon this summer, and I'm looking for anyone who may have been to either of these lodges who can share their opinions on their experience there. (and maybe a bit of fishing knowledge for the area) Option 1 Onaman River Resort Option 2 McCollum's Reflection Lake Resort Both places seem to have benefits and drawbacks IMO that I'm taking into account. I've looked over both websites and am not yet sold 100% on either until I can get some input from someone who has been there. My trip will be taking place the 1st week of August. PM's are ok by me as well! Thanks jjcanoe
  17. All this brook trout talk has got me itching to go, the 16 hour drive WILL be happening this summer. Was talking to the Uncle-in-law via skype (he lives in the Netherlands) today about our trip this summer and just firming up dates, looking like we will be leaving on Aug 02 and making the drive to the north end of Nipigon for the dog days of summer trout tour.... 2 years ago we went cod fishing in Iceland, his favorite type of fishing, and now it's my turn to host a trip. Figure on a day or 2 of Brook trout, a day of lakers maybe a day of pike. Hope the weather works out for us enough to spend all our days up there on the big lake. Might be picking the brains of some of you guys who know whats going on up that way, on here between now and then. LOL jjcanoe
  18. Thanks! Even if it was tough fishing its much better than being at work!
  19. Had a good week at the trailer last week, the weather co-operated nicely! We got a late start to the week due to the boys making the semi's in a soccer tourney in Brantford 3 games Saturday and the semi on Sunday, we didn't get out onto the water until a bit before noon on Monday, Brought my sons soccer buddy along, he never fished before 3 weeks ago when we took him along for he weekend, and as always the new guy always seems to get the 1st fish of the week Wednesday evening we went out to pitch some plastic frogs along the rapidly expanding shoreline (TSW took another few logs out from the dam) 3lbs 12oz bucket for JJjr! That put him atop the leader board for kids at the trailer park for the season so far, He was also leading last year until the last weekend but lost out... took some time out to get a pic or to of the local wildlife This little watersnake was sneaking up on the Bullfrog but decided against it (their brains do function! LOL) I got mine on Saturday afternoon 3lb 6oz smallie, got beaten by the boy again! jjcanoe
  20. nice piggy! i'm hoping to run into his cousin on Eels lake this week!
  21. The lower Niagara usually gets an early start, August 8th was the earliest date I ever got a fish in the whirlpool, that was in the early 90's. Back then if you didn't have your first salmon by the 20th, you were doing something wrong! Queenston, the Glen or he 'pool are almost always your best bet for the first run, and theres lots of other bonus fish around if the salmon aren't, big strong bass, double digit walleye, and the odd large musky, my pb was 44" caught on a lime Canadian wiggler in the 'pool.
  22. keep this in mind about Norwegian Elkhounds.... They are the official dog of Norway and as such all registered Elkhounds can be recalled to Norway in the event that Norway goes to war. 100% true! I looked into getting one about 12 years ago great looking dogs with a mild temprement at the time there was a breeder south of Ingersoll super nice guy, he interviewed us to find out what kind of owners we would be, we ended up not getting one when the wifey got pregnant shortly afterwards.
  23. they measured that explosion at 2.1 on the richter scale!!!! (according to CP24)
