  1. 8 rods and 2 guys, maybe there were some leprechans in the boat? jjcanoe
  2. Hey all just be glad that you're not me. I do 2 round trips from London to Vaughan Monday to Friday. Just cause I have 18 wheels doesn't mean I have 18 brakes! Here's my theory... The more bad winter driving days we get, the fewer bad winter drivers we'll have next time around. (thin their numbers!) Please don't cut in front of Big trucks and slam on the brakes. I think it was the CAA that did a poll last year about car drivers driving around trucks and the results stated that car drivers #1 concern was being rear ended by a truck on the highway. Well duh, don't cut in front of us. The safest place is behind us because it takes us a lot longer to stop than cars and if you were back there you'd be stopped long before us. Yes there are some bad truck drivers out there but they are the minority. No we're not all on speed etc. we're one of the few professions in Canada that is subject to drug testing, and we are the most regulated industry on the continent. My rant for the week jjcanoe
  3. I love small stream trout fishing and do 75% of my fishing in rivers. I do own a boat and have recently gotten into downrigging. Love that too! jjcanoe
  4. Hope all you SW Ontario guys and girls come out jjcanoe
  5. Hi all, Just a reminder that the Thames River Anglers Association meeting is this Wednesday Jan. 10th at 8pm at Grosvenor Lodge on Western Rd. The guest speaker this month is Jeff Brick from the Upper Thames River Cons. Auth. Also on tap, the Brown trout are in the hatchery and already at swim up stage. What to do with the walleye hatchery (dismantle or status quo) What's going on with Springbank dam and the now defunct London Sport Fishery, and info on the annual boathouse sale, and hopefully some info on the new website, and as always tons of SCUTTLEBUTT! Hope to see some new faces out there. Thanks jjcanoe http://www.anglers.org
  6. OFAH and TRAA (Thames River Anglers Association) jjcanoe http://www.anglers.org

  8. Make sure when they ask for the reason you are returning it you tell them THE SALESMAN LIED TO US ABOUT THE PRODUCT make sure they write that down on the return slip jjcanoe
  9. So far one 8'6" trolling rod and $150 worth of BPS gift cards. Making the trip to Niagara Falls tomorrow for more BPS cards (that's all I asked for) I need a new trolling motor since I sold mine last week so I could upgrade to a bow mount jjcanoe
  10. I wish I could find out about their Boxing day sales I tried on the website but got zip. So far I have $150 in BPS gift cards, and I still need to make the trip to my parents for x-mas presents tomorrow. jjcanoe
  11. A guy in our fishing club happened to run across a CO last year while at his camp on the Steele river. The CO told him he pulled up a scotty manual downrigger and ball last year from a spot just downstream from the camp. One of his drunken buddies was in the boat 2 years prior and was clearing part of an overhanging tree when the boat drifted under a low branch which peeled off the downrigger. Don't know if it's true or not but makes for a great story! jjcanoe
  12. Always have the lucky walmart fishing hat on. It has since been passed on to my 5yr old and man what a fisherman he is. Incudentally my luck has seemed to increase since I did this (Karma?) Also when tying the "trilene" knot, 8 line wraps when fishing for trout and 6 wraps when fishing for salmon. jjcanoe
  13. For about $20 @ Princess Auto you can get a hitch receiver bar with a lock and also the one you use on the little clip for the trailer on the ball receiver( I can't think of what it's called). They both come with the same key so you only have to carry one key. jjcanoe
  14. Thanks for the info guys, I wish I was going to bring the boat up but that won't happen this time of year especially if the weather is as wonderful as it has been the last few days. glad to see that it's a good fishing lake. Hopefully the cottage we're going to see is worth the trip. jjcanoe
  15. Moosonee 1987. One canoe trip. My first helecopter ride, and my first plane ride. Lit lots of controlled burn fires, huge ones(not personally)! Saw beluga whales in the river, caught my only sturgeon, first walleye and second largest pike (48"). We were the first year to have our camp on the mainland and it was about a mile to town. A few of us snuck into town several times to meet up with the local girls.... sorry family board, my bad! Had a great summer. Everyone had a nickname or two I was JJ or sometimes fishman. anyone else have a jr nickname? jjcanoe
  16. I'm sure that some of you have fished here before and hope you'll share some info on fish species caught in the lake. I'm going to check out a cottage for sale up there next weekend. Thanks jjcanoe
