  1. 1st always post the names of the rivers you fish and where exactly the fish are 2nd when you catch one---an ABSOLUTE must is take a pic with your float reel submerged and the fish needs at least 20% to be covered in mud 3rd--give the names of the fellow OFC steelheaders you meet on the river and the river name and what they were using Of course---just kiddin Once you've asked at your local tackle store---(Indy preferred---Cdn Tire guys likely not interested)----just keep trying new things----and watch whats working with others when your out there. Hey---I never would have thought a small countdown Rapala would have worked had I not seen someone else use it and work
  2. Here's another one boys---and I heard this many times 1st hand We have to make sacrifices to be competitive.....Competitive?? Funny one word can mean several things When profitable company wants you to take less to be able to compete with foreign Competition---it's good to take less to Compete But when US Steel is tired of competeing with Stelco---They buy them and shut them down---See that's how they stay competitive---another version of how to Compete Used to be laws against this
  3. I'm sure the folks in London can sympathize--when US Caterpillar bought Electro Motive---1st contract they came after 50% wage cuts or they'd move to the US where they take half the wages---You know the rest Now--GM can get workers in Tennessee to do the work for 50% less---after bailouts---and there used to be an Autopact--where if you wanted to sell in Canada---you built in Canada-----not happening Look at CP Rail---now owned by a US hedge fund---what's their contract requests---30-40% clawback on pensions Remember your potato farm that posed as an ag firm and bought up lots of land in southern On.---then flipped into Mega quarry--owned by a Boston Hedge fund Notice a trend???? I recommend watching Michael Moore's "Capitalism" A love Story
  4. Beer and fuel for your free-loadin buddies Seriously--licence is a one time deal Insurance yes reg maintenance--stuff---grease bearings--tires etc
  5. A few of us had a go at this the other day NWO On a related note-----4 ex fisheries ministers from past Gov'ts are dumping on the Cons plans to gut the fisheries act ones from even Mulroneys cabinet Remember boys nothin is free---there's always a cost
  6. I guess soon enough we'll have come full circle and carry cash again
  7. Pikehunter---true story---we all shop by price---but Good point on shopping local I live in a small town ---I buy at my local hardware store as opposed to big box stores---and also support our local farmers at their market in summer---better stuff anyway.
  8. Yes Stoty-----One only needs look at the raping of our environment for $$$ and it verifies that as well I will continue to shop with my conscience---as futile as it seems----up to this spring when I had a Mechanic change the bearings on my boat trailer----and I stood my ground and got the bearings made in the USA---most made in China or Mexico Actually a recommendation made on this board
  9. I've had to operate 2x in the boat on fishin partners--diff guys both though got it the same way----trollin cranks---catch a 12 inch shaker pike---try to take hooks out of fish---those fish go snakey---flip around with those extra trebles free---bingo----not fun
  10. Working in Hamilton when the free trade hit with Mulroney---I watched them vacate like rats from a ship Firestone--- Harvester--P & G etc How was everyone making money before---wages there were always good
  11. it's just dissapointing that's all---and I know we seem to have lost this one.
  12. This is not a huge deal but definetly a pretty good indicator where we're at.. I wished to purchase a new meat thermometer for the BBQ---now Wally World and Cdn Tire carry your typical stuff--priced about 5-12 dollars---of course all made in China So on I went, right?----went online and looked for therms made in Canada---zip Then I found the Weber site---sold at Home Depot----made in USA---ok good now this was priced at 23 dollars---I thought--ok I can pay a little more to help our side and feel a little more at ease that the quality of the steel will not be a concern---and I realize it may not be with the Chinese models So yesterday I go into HD and find the Weber one----now it says---"engineered" in Illinois---Made in China I Give up---guess I'll cut into the meat to see if it's done---thinking I cannot even attempt to do the right thing. It's like when I wanted to buy a hardwood cutting board at Wally world----all made in China----and I thought---this is Canada--pretty sure we have a couple trees here----jeez---it frustrates me Note did find the CDN made board at Cdn Tire OK --off the soapbox now
  13. True enough---Another bad one is the nice folks who do not wish to part with 10-20 bucks and dump their household garbage--incl old appliances down back roads local twsp just upped the fine to a thousand dollars if get caught
  14. Storing garbage bags in a shed this time of year is a draw as well---with garbage rotting quicker in this heat Years ago I had a bear try and install a drive thru service in one of my sheds where I had some garbage bags Note: OSB boards is like wrapping paper on a birthday gift to a bear
  15. Pretty key Two---I've been a licenced hunter for 36 years-----there were times I was sharing my huntin grounds with wolves---and at times could have drilled a couple---never did---figure they were huntin there before me---U know---I always got mine it's balance
  16. Always travel the neighborhood with the Buddy System---well to be more specific The Slower Than You Buddy System
  17. They can do better than eliminate science---they can demonize environmental groups as enemies so you can't hear them either They continue to spew that Canadians only concern is building the economy----anybody ask them at what cost?? Like a supertanker worth of oil into the Athabasca River annually---and flowin towards the big lake
  18. Having lived in that area I know exactly where that is 1/2 way between Dryden and Kenora I guess the money to keep that open got blown in a Billion dollar G8 mess---funny how the US can hold it low key recently at Camp David---likely for a fraction the cost Well everyone should be happy though---we lost the gun registry-----well maybe?? But it won't matter about retiring with time to hunt as now we're working 2 more years
  19. True but it's dollar driven---not the quality of the game. \ Canadians are rabid about "Our" Game
