  1. I'm starting to look at downriggers for my new ride...Electric is my choice as I fish alot on my own. Looking for opinions and experiences from other members here. I started to read some reviews on Canon MAG 10HS riggers and they are not very good!! Here's 2 of the many reviews: jerky motion. If this downrigger bucks any harder it's going to rip the bolts out of the gunnels. I phoned a Cannon service center in new York and he says nothing can be done because the motor is made in Asia some place, What happend?? I used to have Cannon's i liked but I'd never buy another one." "Finally sold my old Cannons that were made in Muskegon Mi. and bought new ones. There is no way I can get used to dealing with these new downriggers. Why couldn't they make them easy to use like the old ones.? The switch is very jumpy . I find them impossible to control and I've used Cannon's for many years. I would not make the same decision to buy these mag 10's again." I've read a few other threads on downriggers and it looks like a lot of the OFC members like Scotty....is there a particular model?? Thanks... Steve
  2. Hey Ted.....send me a pm with an invite, and we'll try to nail a few Lakers together..
  3. 7 and 13
  4. I shouldn't jump to conclusions yet Lew....I have yet to see what the quote is to rig the boat up by Trojan.
  5. Good job Lew!!.....I'm taking the easy way out and getting Dave from Trojan Tackle make my mounts and holders for me... I'll post pics when finished..
  6. I'm the same as you Laszlo!!....I fall asleep quickly and then some internal alarm clock rings in my brain and I'm wide awake from 2:00AM onwards.... Have a great trip Gerritt!!
  7. I thought you were gettin' ready for Laker opener tomorrow!!!

  10. We should do a group chat ...I have 2 that could join yours
  11. Nice report...those are some fine looking fish!
  12. I'm mainly trolling for Muskie and Lakers...there will be a couple of fall trips to Quinte....hopefully I'll be rigged up for Salmon next year.
  13. Thanks Dave.... I'll send you an e-mail shortly!
  14. Thanks for the detailed reply Wayne..I'll take some more pictures of the gunnel and the transom and post them this afternoon....I agree, I really do not want to make the transom area so busy that it will be a pain to do anything from the rear of the boat....
  15. Thanks guys....that was my worry having gunwales that are not totally flat....the downriggers will definately be mounted on the back casting deck....I'll try to see if I have enough room for the towers!!
  16. I've been thinking about how to get the new boat set up for rod holders and am having a difficult time trying to decide how/what to do.. I've looked at many options such as the traxtech setup http://www.traxstech.com or this one http://www.trojantackle.ca/index.htm Does anyone have any suggestions or tips before I start DRILLING holes on my boat????.... I took a couple of pictures of the where the rod holders or trax system would need to go... Thanks, Steve
  17. Thanks for the replies so far guys....what's the difference between the Merc 9.9 Bigfoot and the Pro Kicker?? Wayne, Is your kicker attached to your main outboard or do you have an extended handle and steer it seperately?
  18. Nice looking ride....congrats
  19. I'm now looking at the $$$$$$$$ task of rigging the new ride and have come across a deal for a new 2008 Tohatsu 8HP 4-stroke long shaft kicker...half the price of the Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker... My question is whether the 8HP is big enough to troll my 20' Tracker Tundra on a windy day?? I'm estimating that the total weight of the boat, 150HP Merc, and 40 gallons of gas is ~ 2500lbs... Thanks, Steve
  20. That's great news Cliff!!....kudos to the people that called the OPP!!
  21. If you're not using it for drinking water than go for it.....looks like ya struck gold and the wife will be happy now that she has water .....a sand point is easy enough to do especially if you can get water at 14'....do some some research and do it yourself to save lots of $$$$$$$
  22. I agree 100%.....I'd be concerned with where that shallower water is coming from and has it had a chance to be filtered through the sand/soil properly or is it just "spring run-off" that has saturated the ground right now...I certainly wouldn't drink it before boiling the crap out of it..
  23. There are loads of good deals out there!!....use the Canadain dollar to your advantage and buy in the U.S......there's no comparison with the price of used boats down in the states compared to the overpriced boats up here in Canada... I just bought one last week close to New York City and although it consumed a lot of my time perparing for the purchase, it was WELL WORTH IT!!!... Do your homework, use your head, make lots of calls, and DO NOT SEND MONEY!......why would anyone want to send money to someone for a boat that they have never looked at ....when you do find one ask to see the Certificate of Title, Lien Release, Boat Registration, Trailer Registration and then ask to see his driver's license to make sure all the info matches...also tell the owner that you want him to take the boat out on the water for a demo with you, and ask if there is a nearby Marina, that he can call to make an appointment to have the engine inspected that you will pay for....if the seller wants to sell the boat bad enough, he'll have no issues doing the above for you!!
