Buying a Boat in the US is easy

cityfisher, you can use the Saltwater for both salt and fresh water....there's a water hose connector just under the engine cowling so that you can connect a garden hose and flush the salt water out through the motor...not sure what the other differences are....possibly a few stainless internal parts..I haven't had a chance to start reading the owner's manual... Thanks Grant!!....you're on Bud!!.....zoom zoom zoom Thanks....no reports real soon as I still have to rig it up....I'll make another post later to pick everyone's brains as far as what's the best way to rig up rod holders... -

That was the main incentive Fil on top of getting around to "hot" spots quicker as well as venturing to new bodies of waters now .... I think Landry is pretty acurate...just be patient and make sure you are GOOD AND READY to contact the seller and jump into you vehicle within hours to go get it!!!.....the old saying..."you snooze ya lose" Here are few links: http://newyork.craigslist.org/ http://www.iboats.com/used_boats/ http://www.boatsville.com/browse_used_boats.cfm -

Definately private deal!!....customs charges are the GST/PST of the boat/motor and the trailer.. -
Just got back from my 1500km journey down to the States and brought my "new" ride home!! I want to say thanks to all the guys that sent me replies to my earlier post regarding "buying a boat in the US".... http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42536 I couldn't believe how easy it was was to get all the paperwork done at the border and get on my way....it took 14 minutes!!! I'll definately will miss the pontoon boat and the 14' Smokercraft but only for a minute ....I'm really looking forward now to start planning a few Lake O trips, Quinte trips and Muskie Hunts...

IS there a way to check and ensure that there are no liens against a boat your are buying on a private/non-dealer sale??..... Would I be better off to risk trailering the boat back to Ottawa without a plate or should I bring my plate from my boat trailer and use that?? -
Nice looking fish!....the water looks gorgeous!

Hey Mike, give Gord a call at Bits and Baits which is just west of Ottawa....or you can order them on-line from his store....the store is closed until Monday, because he's setup a booth at the annual Carp Valley Fishing and Outdoor show this weekend... http://www.valleysportsmanshow.com/VFOS http://www.bitsandbaits.com/tacklethis/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=90

I've finally decided to treat myself and look for a bigger boat .......I've looked at a few used boat sites and came across what I thought was a sweet deal on an immaculate Starcraft...problem was, the owner wanted CASH only, and said his trailer wasn't licensed so we couldn't take it out to a body of water to try it out ....I take it that these are some of the obstacles I am going to have to experience buying used... If anyone has some good sites, or tips on buying in the U.S please pass them along.. Also, I was talking to a lad at a local Marina, and he told me that I better make sure that the boat I buy is Canadian certified or else I just might get stuck at the border....what does this mean????? Thanks, Steve

Dual Purpose Batteries
TroutnMuskieHunter replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
A little over an hour from me posting this and I get all these great replies...thanks a lot guys. I sent my son the link to this topic..this is what OFC is all about!! -
My son posted this on another site and got 0 replies....I told him to join a good site and in the mean time I'd post it on the good site I was referring to.. ..... Thanks.... Steve I started having some issues with my main battery last year and I'm looking for some advice. I've recently upgraded the main sonar unit to an HDS-7 and after a long day on the water without running the motor a lot I can drain my cranking battery. Not sure if it was the sonar upgrade or maybe just time for a new battery but either way, limping back to the launch with the bow mount sucks. The current battery came with the boat, it's the largest Interstate marine cranking battery with 1000mca but it's at least 3 years old and I know I've discharged it more than a few times. I just ordered a new 3 bank charger to make sure I keep a good charge on the main battery this year but I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to replace the current battery. What I'm wondering is if I'll be better off with a dual-purpose cranking/deep cycle for the main battery? I've heard some mixed reviews on dual purpose batteries and just wondering if any of you guys are running these. Right now I'm looking at the Optima D31M which puts out 1125 mca and has 155 min RC. The other option would be to put in a third deep cycle just for electronics and just replace the main battery with another cranking battery. I'd really like to avoid having 4 batteries if possible so the dual purpose is looking pretty appealing. Any thoughts?
