  1. Suckers can be a total blast to catch. I go out a few times a year for them myself. If you're lucky enough to hook into a big redhorse, it's triple the fun. Great report and pics
  2. Great report and pics. Congrats all around - Even you Cliff. You married a fishing machine without an off-switch! Definitely swinging by soon. Victor and I are planning a road trip. He still needs to french kiss one.LOL
  3. From my understanding, this virus has already spread across Lake Erie, Niagara region, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence. I remember reading about KHV in the newspaper in 2001 when all the areas mentioned above were affected resulting in massive carp die-offs.
  4. Move to Michigan for the skamania - Steelhead almost all year round Steelhead are still around (at least for Lake O tribs I scouted) - should be there for the next little while. With that said, expect to do a fair bit of driving. On Wednesday my dad and I drove 300km to land 1 fish (my fish ) If you're feeling adventurous, load up the car and head north to Lake Superior. You've got the St. Mary's, Nipigon river, steel river, jackpine plus dozen more tribs to fish
  5. I imagine the headwaters of rivers and smaller creeks are pretty close to being done. Scouted a few tribs during the past week and a lot of them were almost devoid of fish. Bigger rivers where fish go up further will still probably have decent numbers. In general think big.
  6. I keep mine in the Styrofoam worm containers that I reuse. I usually put shredded newspapers and spray them with dechlorinated water to keep them moist every so often. Apparently they need moisture because they breath through their skin. I don't feed mine because I use them pretty quick after picking (within a few weeks). A few commercial worm pickers I talked to fill their worm containers with a mixture of dirt and peat moss. They said the worms feed on peat moss. I have to keep mine in the cold room in the basement now...There was an incident a while back with the fridge and escapees
  7. Happy birthday and congrats on getting into enriched math. Go out and christen your new gear
  8. No season on carp but there are seasons on geographic regions where you can fish for them. You can fish for carp in Lake Ontario all year but the kawarthas close to all fishing (regardless of species) sometime in the fall and do not open till the last Saturday in April. You are allowed to use corn as bait
  9. Among braid, I often use 20-30lb mono or fluorocarbon for my hair rigs because of this stiff property. A hair rig tied from this material is harder for the fish to eject the baited hook than braid. The angle of the line coming out of the eye of the hook simulates the "bent hook" effect. With slight pressure, the hook will turn downwards in the fish's mouth and will hook the carp inside on the bottom lip - A hooking place where landing percentages are higher. If you use a heavy enough weight (sinker) kept in a semi-fixed position, you don't have to set the hook. The weight does that for you even before picking the rod up. The idea is that you want the fish to feel the weight and 'bolt' off driving the hook deeper into its lip - You need 2oz minimum for this to work as well as intended.
  10. Hair rig tying instructions http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Rig-Section/Ca...tless_Knot.html I posted one recipe a while back in this thread http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.p...amp;hl=boillies
  11. Great report SNAP. Love the pics. Beautifully made spinners as well. What about snog? LOL
  12. Great report. Nice fish too. Top angling to your girlfriend. She smoked you (j/k)
  13. 6'6" - 7'6" medium action rod matched with a mid-sized reel loaded with 6-8lb mono. The perfect rod for casting spinners in small to medium sized rivers for steelhead. A rod with a soft tip and a beefy butt section would be ideal IMO.
  14. Not necessarily so IMO. People are generally more willing to give up their spots and locations when conversations are done more intimately through personal contact (meeting up and fishing, through PM's, e-mail, etc). No one wants their personal happy space exposed to millions of people some of whom may not share the same level of appreciation of nature and the resources available to us.
  15. Unreal! The reels you used are massive. Kinda makes you think twice before skinny dipping with cudas and sharks swimming about. That's one trip I wanna do before I die Great report CH...Love the pics
  16. Great report. Beauty pike. The shots with the kids are priceless WTG
  17. Nicely done. I have done well using glow in the dark crappie tube jigs. I always use a leader lighter than my mainline. If I snag up, I hopefully won't lose my float.
  18. Rumor has it you're a vampire cliff...Sucking the life forces from fish before setting them free to catch again at a later date. I imagine the mouth of the rouge has enough space. Haven't hauled a carp out of there in years though.
  19. No need for a BBQ, the smell of my bait will put everyone's appetite off
  20. Different ways to shot a line. Most people stick shot just on the mainline and have a 16-24" fluorocarbon leader. I almost always put shots on my leader - Sometimes as close as 8-9 inches from the hook. Never had a problem with it weakening. It's just what I have confidence in doing and it works. When I pre rig my rods+reels, I normally just put the shots that I need to noodle up the float (The ones directly below the float). I leave the rest to put on when I get to the river. Happy b-day when it comes around
  21. Simply stunning. Congrats on the PB.
  22. Nice fish. Good on you for getting out in the rain. Great report...Thanks for sharing
  23. Great report dude! Looks like you had an awesome day. The last fish is a chunky one!
