I checked out your link and was totally blown away with your writing. Top notch, really drew me in and made me “Think”. As far as I know, it’s illegal to harass anyone who is legally engaged in the sport of hunting or fishing. Like the others said, report them. Section 13 of the provincial Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act clearly states that it is illegal to obstruct or interfere with lawful fishing, hunting and trapping Obstruction of hunting, trapping or fishing 13 (1) A person shall not interfere with lawful hunting, trapping or fishing by, (a) tampering with traps, nets, bait, firearms or any other thing used for hunting, trapping or fishing; (b) placing himself or herself in a position, for the purpose of interfering, that hinders or prevents hunting, trapping or fishing; or (c) engaging in an activity, for the purpose of interfering, that disturbs or is likely to disturb wildlife or fish. Great Trip Report Andrew! There’s nothing like venturing into Algonquin’s backcountry with good friends. Portages can certainly be tough if you have a bunch “just in case” gear. I’ve been going every spring since 2010 for the trout, except the past 2 due to COVID closures. I’m turning 64 this week, and will keep returning, until I can’t.

Gil, for tips on access, daily conditions and flies that are working, drop in at the Grand River Outfitting and Fly shop in Fergus. Also, you can search “Grand River Access” and you should find what your looking for.

John, I believe that would be the West Branch of the Credit. Either way, it’s not good news, and thanks for mentioning it as we all need to aware of plans that could negatively effect our fisheries.

Your welcome! As you can see by the size of those hoops, they caught fair sized “bait”, compared to what I normally call a minnow but then again, it was saltwater. Ray

It’s a bait catcher, also called “pilchard rings”. I first used one in the 70’s while fishing off a Pier in Florida, everyone was using them to catch small bait fish which they would then use to catch “real fish”. They sold them in the little fishing shop that was on the Pier. It was simply lowered into the water, and the bait fish would be all over it, attracted to the colourful material, and many would get their gills stuck in the wire loops. It was very effective. Ray.

I have a similar tool, and they work great once you get the hang of it. These days I just put a permanent Loop on the end of the fly line, and attach leaders using a Loop to Loop connection.

The best way to crystallize your loss is to sell now. KEEP invested in a balanced portfolio of 60% equities (growth) and 40% fixed (bonds etc) .......set it, and forget it (go fishing;)), except to re-balance as required to keep the 60/40 mix. As the 60% is "crashing", the 40% is growing, thereby mitigating the impact of these market corrections. On Average, you may reduce your paper loss by 25%.

My 1st post....and and it’s not about fishing?, but I couldn’t resist. DIY investing is inherently risky, and as long as your not playing with your retirement funds and your prepared to lose the funds you have allocated to it, the go for it. I use my TFSA for DIY investments. My retirement funds are safely invested elsewhere in a balanced portfolio of 60% equities (growth) and 40% fixed (bonds etc) .......set it, and forget it, except to rebalance as required to keep the 60/40 mix. No GICS, No Mutual Funds.....and the btw, the Bank is not your friend. Here’s my personal approach to DIY “investing”, and I used quotations, because I don’t consider it as really investing.....it’s more like playing the market. Buy good stuff when it’s on sale. When everyone is buying or selling, consider doing the opposite. Don’t let other people’s emotions drive your decisions i.e. FOMO When you buy a stock, immediately create a sell order with a “stop limit”, so if your fortune reverses, at least it will sell before your your shirt.....and keep adjusting as it rises in value, but leave some room for ‘noise’. Many small Gains are better then a few risky bets. My 2 cents. Ray.
