A provincial bait policy review regarding the use and angler movement of bait (including baitfish) has been posted on the EBR for public comment / review. See details below. RE: Provincial Bait Policy Review The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) (notice new title) is seeking public comment on policy options associated with: · Angler use and movement of bait in Ontario; and · Use and harvest of bait in provincial parks and conservation reserves. The purpose of the provincial bait policy review is to determine how the ecological risks associated with the use and movement of bait (i.e. baitfish and leeches) can be minimized to help maintain healthy fisheries and aquatic ecosystems, while reducing the complexity of current management regimes and providing business certainty to the bait industry. The harvest and use of live bait in Ontario has and continues to be an important aspect of fishing in Ontario. However, the movement of live bait also involves ecological risks related to the spread of diseases and invasive species that pose risks to Ontario’s fisheries, provincial parks and conservation reserves, and biodiversity. The following goals have been established to guide the provincial bait policy review: 1) Bait is managed to protect the health of aquatic ecosystems. 2) Sustainable use of bait resources enhances the quality of life for Ontarians by providing recreational, social and economic benefits. 3) Bait is managed to conserve the resource and maintain a viable bait industry. 4) Bait management is adaptable, effective, consistent across the province and simple to implement. More information regarding the provincial bait policy review can be found in an Information Notice posted on the Environmental Registry (EBR Registry Number: 012-1043) on February 12, 2014. http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTIxNTcz&statusId=MTgyMTM1&language=en There are 5 topics being addressed by the policy review: 1) Angler Use and Movement; 2) Parks and Protected Areas; 3) Commercial Sale and Transport; 4) Allocation; and 5) Reporting. At this time we are seeking input on the range of policy options being considered specifically for the first two topics. 1) The Management of Angler Use and Movement of Bait in Ontario: a. The type of bait anglers are allowed to use (e.g., limited number of species) b. The scale at which anglers can move bait, such as limiting movement to a specific region, to the Fisheries Management Zone(s) (FMZ), or within a watershed; c. Angler’s ability to store bait (e.g., angler’s use of bait buckets and cribs) in lakes, rivers and streams d. Ability of anglers to harvest their own bait e. Use of bait in defined sensitive areas (e.g., brook trout lakes, Arctic watershed) 2) The Use and Harvest of Bait in Ontario Parks and Conservation Reserves: a. The use of commercial bait for angling b. The use of personally harvested bait for angling c. Commercial harvest of bait d. Storage of commercially harvested bait e. A timeline for phasing out commercial bait harvest in protected areas where this activity is not allowed To provide feedback on the range of policy options, two Policy Proposal Notices related to the above two topics of the policy review were posted on the Environmental Registry on November 5, 2014. Please search for registry numbers: 012-2835 (Use and Harvest of Bait in Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves) and 012-2836 (Angler Use and Movement of Bait in Ontario). http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTIzNjc4&statusId=MTg1NjIy&language=en The postings will be available for comment until December 19th 2014.If you have any questions regarding these postings or the provincial bait policy review please contact [email protected].

An old trick for rear wheel drive when one tire starts to spin is to put the emergency brake on lightly. This loads up both wheels the same and prevents having one wheel spin. Slowly apply gas and you can get traction out of both wheels wiithout one breaking loose.

My most ultimate fishing report!!!! A MONSTER!!!
Lunker Larry replied to jedimaster's topic in General Discussion
Fished the Fraser with the same company last September. Went 18 for 19 fish with an average 200+ lbs. Really a must do for the serious fisherman. May be in thecardsagain next year. -
Thanks everyone for looking but that one has I pilot and mine doesn't. Ref a serial number. On the bill of sale there is a serial number for everything BUT the trolling motor. Figures. Bought the boat second hand 3 years back. That looks like a good deal though. I might check it out. Thanks again to all who looked and to Tom M for giving me a call. Larry

Hey everyone. Do me a favour and keep an eye out for a 55 lb Minnkota Pontoon bow mount trolling motor that might come up for sale somewhere. Went up to my cottage yesterday and my shed was pried open and the trolling motor and pedal were gone. Stolen sometime during the last two weeks. The motor is like new with the only identifying feature on it being I had to cut and re-attach the cable plug. So it is twisted/soldered and bound with electrical tape. Also, they don't have the bow mount. If you see something suspicious, please pm me. I'd appreciate it. They also tried to get into another shed but couldn't break the latch. Cottage is on the Quebec side up by Wakefield Lesson learned. Thanks all

y back in this post someone mentioned getting parts in Texas. That's Southwest Parts and they do hold a lot of hard to get parts in stock but....they only ship express to Canada at a cost of $40. Puts a damper on buying a small cheap part.

The reports and stories were spread by everyone but the angler. No details were ever released. Everything was speculation. The story was starting to leak so he spoke at the MCI meeting. The fish was never weighed. No claims have ever been made by him. He has no desire but to avoid the crap, jealously and spite that this sort of thing seems to inspire without knowing the story, person or circumstances. Just like what is starting to show its head on this string. There have been bigger muskie caught. What made this one special was the girth: 34". There are lots of formulas out there to figure out weight.. They're pretty good up to 50 " but after that...not too good. So relax.....stare at your big fish pictures with pride and move on.

Thanks Art. That seems to be the common opinion on the internet regarding this stuff along with the warning about not unhooking the boat until it is in the water. Think I'll stop in at BPS and pick up a couple cans on my way to the Falls next weekend. Larry

Bit pricey for a 20 foot pontoon boat trailer
-
I wrestle with launching my pontoon boat every spring and fall due to low water and am thinking about trying a product called Liquid Rollers (available at BPS). Has anyone ever used it? I realize it is probably silicone, but is it wet or dry silicone? Those in the know, is there a cheaper alternative? I want something I can put on in the fall before putting the boat away for the winter and it will still be effective in the spring so please no suggestions of PAM or WD40 and such please.

Would it be good for boat covers? -
So you're telling me "far out' and "fab" are no longer in? Time to put my paisley guru shirt away I guess

If it is just a rivet and you know which one it is, take some silicone and just press it in so it is forced under the rivet as much as you can with your finger. Too easy. Had a 12 foot years back that was always banged around and had a number of leaky rivets. Turned it over and did the above and never had an issue again. No need to make it into a big job.

Itty Bitty 4 stroke problemo! - need some mechvice
Lunker Larry replied to TJQ's topic in General Discussion
agree with Roy. Check the simple things first. If i was stored you may have a spider or something blocking the pee hole. Poke around with some soft wire or weed eater cord first. Be agressive, you won't hurt anything. -
I love free WFN but I can't watch this show
Lunker Larry replied to Cudz's topic in General Discussion
In the military, I was posted to Masset on the Queen Charlotte Islands (now Haida Gwai (?)) Anyway, I was spoiled and like you, loved the river fishing. Sea run coho, kings and steelhead were amazing and the rest of the time, well, you just had to settle for Dolley Vardin and Cut Throat trout, thats when you weren't jigging halibut, red snapper or pulling up dungeness crabs or collecting garbage bags of razor clams on the beach. Four and a half years of being spoiled. Just had to get used to fishing in the rain -

As with most here, I get tired of seeing "pros" whooping and hollering over guppy sized fish while expounding on the virtues of the bait they are using. Of the basic fishing show, I still enjoy Charlie Wray's Fishful Thinking. Yes he pushes product, but his shows remain interesting. I check WFN out ever time it is free on Rogers which reinforces why I don't subscribe to it. Now, if you want to watch a good fishing show, check out Wicked Tuna. I came across it the other night for the first time (on the history channel I think) and watched about 10 episodes in a row. Yes it is a reality show with interesting characters (feigned or not) but it is really unique. -

Older reels - what are these worth?
Lunker Larry replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
I'd suggest posting them on a site where the "reel heads" go. Their are quite a few collectors out there. Try Alan Tani's site. You will get a response from guys all over the world. http://alantani.com/ -
How to get the PMs attention new rules for all Canadians
Lunker Larry replied to mr blizzard's topic in General Discussion
When you read this, please do so as if it is a calm, casual conversation. The tone of intent is often lost in an e-mail. Cudos to the first nation guys who have not been baited and have discussed and argued their points very well. However, something that comes up regularly in the media is how native issues are presented by many first nations and how it may come across to the non native populace. I personally find it hard to take someone seriously when they are talking about spirits, mother earth, eagles, crows, ancestors and such and do it to the beat of annoying drums. It seems everyone wants to talk like Chief Dan George in a Clint Eastwood movie. Join the 21st century. If someone is going to speak in the news, tailor it the modern era and maybe someone will take it seriously. Good or bad the past is past. Yes, treaties were signed hundreds of years ago when no one knew how this country was going to form, but there is no way in hell the population of CANADA is going to step aside and hand it over.Things are coming to a head but the major issues are getting lost. Chief Spencer is doing one thing, Idle no more another, and the militant western crowd another. Get rid of the infighting. Find someone who can stand up and speak, not dressed like they are from the 1700s, and maybe more people will stop and take a second serious look at what is being said and not gaff it off as just another complaining indian. Sad to say, image is key in these modern times. You have to influence more than the hippies and free spirits. Blockades and public violence just makes people automatically dig in their heals. I wish I had the answers. I wish it was as simple as both sides getting together to retune expectations to the modern age. I have been a supporter of the Harper govt. Anything was better than the liberal goofballs of the previous govt, but, I have to say Harper has pissed in the pickles this time with the new bill and his handling of Atawapiskat and such. They've gotten too pompous patting themselves on the back for surviving the financial crash and are too myopic in their view of where the country should go financially.
