  1. Hmmm, I wonder why the spaces in the HTML enabled text don't show up?????????????
  2. back to Old Ironmaker: When you learn how to post a pic larger than a few kb's and quote a portion of a post please teach me. You have posted a few pics already you're far ahead of me. No one believes you any longer without documentation today. AHAH!! Yes, you go to the "more reply options" page and hit the "enable HTML" box on the upper right corner Now I have to work on the QUOTE button
  3. Hallelujah! Santa Doug THANKS you, Mike!
  4. Back to Mike Borger, thanks for your time. But yes I already have an account with Hunt101.com which is much like photobucket, and which I use on other websites. But when I go to PASTE the image here, nothing gets pasted to the reply box. It is the same when I try to copy and paste from elsewhere on this site, it does not work. And when I hit the QUOTE button here, it does not copy the quote to my reply. Roy the administrator says it has to be an issue with my computer and hopefully I can get it figured out. In the meantime, I can use thumbnails which I can load directly from my computer.
  5. I own quite a few reels and have owned dozens of them. For the most part they are Shimanos, and I like them very much. So my bias would be towards the Shimano choice - but I have no personal experience with the others, and I would be trying out the demo models to see how they felt in my hands. Last year when I wanted another ultralight reel, I did NOT like the Shimano models that I tried, and bought a Pflueger Trion GX-7. So far, I like it and it has performed well. Anyways, the take-away here is take them all for a test drive in the store and I am guessing you will have a favourite. Doug
  6. That is a heck of a fish and would be the dream of many anglers. I am guessing it will up the traffic to Lac La Croix and will be very good for the fellow's resort business. Customers will be lining up with money in hand to stay at his place, and pick his brain about "hot spots." I am guessing that many of them would not care a whole lot about the legal status of his trophy. The guy (and I am an old fart too) is foolish on many counts, starting with the basic one that he should have been buying a full sports fishing licence, not the Conservation licence. AFTER he was checked by game wardens that day, who KNEW he had caught his limit of lake trout, he should have ceased fishing for lake trout. Maybe there are other species present, for example whitefish, that would allow him to continue fishing, but we don't know that from what has been reported. Then when he caught the Brobdignagian Behemoth (see note) he KNEW he was breaking the law by keeping it and decided to do so anyways. But of course the fish is not useful as a business generator unless it gets publicized...............so I reckon he decided to go public and maybe thought he would get away with it. Which is also foolish............ I don't think I would cut the guy any slack if it were my call. Law Enforcement officials do have discretion in laying charges but as somebody posted, the MNR have been painted into a corner by the guy admitting he broke the law. JMOYMV Doug (note: I used to enjoy the writing of the late John Powers, former Outdoors Editor for the Toronto Star and contributing writer to Ontario Out of Doors Magazine. He was a crusty old fart when I met him, and his "purple prose" set him apart from most outdoors writers. The term Brobdignagian Behemoth was one he used several times to describe truly large fish.)
  7. Ok let's try this: Hmm, I am on the "more posting options" page and still cannot PASTE to the reply thread. I CAN attach files, but they show up as thumbnails like this one:
  8. back to Fisherman, the statute of limitations on that kind of thing is "forever." Like what goes on at the hunt camp stays in the hunt camp......... Doug
  9. OK let's try this. If it works, this is my "BURKA" picture where I am showing solidarity with all those repressed women who have to wear the face veils and all that. Doug
  10. back to BillM.............. I have an account with Hunt101.com which is much like Photbucket. I use it on "EVERY" other site that I visit, without any issues. The problem with THIS website is I cannot copy and paste ANYTHING, including the IMG tags, or even text from a thread that is here. So far, fairly frustrating.................if you have any ideas about that please let me know. MUCH appreciated! Doug
  11. back to Moosebunk........... that is YOUR camera that has the incriminating evidence. Of course since I cannot do a QUOTE to copy the pictures, if you edit that post they are gone forever. Curse you, Red Baron!!!!! Doug
  12. back to sinker, that's me, have not been on Ben's site a lot lately, but had him here for a lunch when he was in ON a month or so ago. Our mutual friend "Winston" has got a new job in Nova Scotia, I spoke with him today and he is really looking forward to it. He will be a Program Manager with the NS Dept of Inshore Fisheries or something like that. Thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it. Doug
  13. OK maybe I can figure out picture posting, but it does not work from a picture hosting site (so far) Here is one from before my twin brother was executed. Doug
  14. back to BillM, Ok I will give that a go from Hunt101.com................ NOPE, I CANNOT paste anything in here. Any more ideas????????????? Doug
  15. Back to Moosebunk........ Thanks for those kind words and for some pictures of my more trimmed facial hair. And (I hope this is not a secret) THANKS for letting me know about this site, I sure appreciate it! Doug
  16. Back to Mike P...... Yes sir, I surely do believe. Do you go door-to-door with copies of The Watchtower? Just curious..............
  17. OK that was easy enough. And no, I do not know who the heck that was, but you can bet I was making fun of his dink perch! Doug
  18. Most websites with which I am familiar have FAQs, and almost always there is one to tell newbies like me how to post pictures. So how do I do this here???????????????? Thanks in advance for any advice....... Doug PS) Saw the "attach files" bit below and attempted to attaché a photo. Maybe I have just answered my own question..........and will see after I post this.
  19. back to strik, I think that is a compliment, and thanks for that. But if you mean you want to make FUN of me, I will have you know that I am a persecuted member of a minority - that being older, fatter, balder white males who speak English as their first official language.......... (J/K) Doug
  20. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on choosing to join the hunting community! I hope that you will be able to find a mentor, after your course is complete, who can help you to put into practice the knowledge you will gain on the course. The Ontario (hunting) course is excellent, and the federal firearms course is, shall we say, skewed somewhat because of the origins of the Firearms Act. All of the knowledge is useful, some marginally so, but most directly applicable to modern day hunting. Your instructor(s) will ensure you know the material, and have practiced the practical aspects, so by the time you take your tests you should have no problems whatsoever in achieving passing grades. Remember: there is no such thing as a stupid question. If you don't understand something, ASK. And good luck to you! Doug
  21. Yep, definitely over-cooked, but that sure does make me drool................and I just finished a fine meal of venison top round roast done in the slow cooker with BBQ sauce and wine (and spices of course), cut thin and served on a bed of Basmati Rice. Wonder if I still have some of Krug of Tavistock's Smoked Side Bacon.................... Doug
  22. back to Finesse Fan.............IF my machine allowed me to use the "QUOTE" button, which so far it has not, I would just have done that rather than work my poor fingers down to nubs with my two finger typing..............or I guess it is called KEYBOARDING these years. Kind of like skateboarding but it is much slower and thankfully does not usually involve broken kneecaps and black eyes.............so where was I again? Oh, yes..........the Science Centre........... Yes you are correct, that is indeed the Van De Graaf Generator look, I thought it was pretty awesome myself. When you build up a sufficient static charge, however, you want to be exceptionally careful just what part of your body is sticking out, if you catch my drift, because that is where the shock comes aboard. On most websites, posting pictures involves incantations and black magic that I have not yet mastered, only having attended my first three years at Hogwarts before they threw me out. But I will endeavour to figure out how to post pictures here, if only to prove that I have actually caught some actual, real fish, not just the Internet variety.............. Doug
  23. Thanks folks. No cats in my beard although there have been other things and since this is a G-rated site we won't go there. I did eat cougar a couple times of course, both times the four legged variety and found it surprisingly good. I had believed that people hunted cougars for sport and trophies only (like grizzly bears), but cougar meat is delicious! And I did hear, last time I was in the Yukon, that "some" folks do eat grizzly bear meat, but that is very rare indeed because most grizzlies live on carrion and the rotten flesh they eat imparts a similar flavour to their flesh. Apparently, I do not know...................and have zero intention of finding out unless somebody offers me some when I have seen them eating it already and from the same pot! I wrote a blog while I was on my trip, and that is basically most of the writing I plan to do about that. Back when Darryl Choronzey had the Ontario Fisherman magazine, I did write for him on a freelance basis and that was fun........... Doug
  24. Thanks Martin! It would be good to meet up again, it has been a while........... Do you still have a snowmobile that does a hundred miles an hour? Doug
  25. back to Old Ironmaker, yes I had quite a few tags and licences that fall. The biggest expense of course was diesel fuel for my F-250. And I will stop this hi-jacking, and wrote a little intro, here: (drum roll) OK, I can't do cut and paste the link here either, but if you go to the list of threads, there is one titled "Who is akaShag and why is he here?" All is revealed.......... Doug
