  1. A very small lake I enjoy fishing for bass in the summer has a bay where a sign says "no fishing....fish sanctuary". That sign was only put up last year, but prior to that it was one of the best places to catch bass. I can't find anything in the MNR regs about the sanctuary, so I assume it's either a sign placed there by the cottager association or perhaps by the municipality. It got me wondering who exactly can designate an area as a fish sanctuary.
  2. The tooth pattern on the kid's foot sure looks esox-like.
  3. Didn't see this posted here yet. Saw on my facebook feed. Legit? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153295457876083&set=o.56936578287&type=1&theater
  4. I assume this is in-store only? I see nothing on the website. Thx
  5. Thanks. We tried worms, spawn, different sized jigs....nothing. maybe just not the right day. They would follow up about 10 ft no matter what I did....speed up, jig it up vs reel straight up, etc. It was fun to watch them on the graph but frustrating at the same time. I'll be back out there soon.
  6. Hi everyone It's been a really slow spring on Georgian Bay (Owen Sound). I've had a hard time getting onto salmon or trout consistently. Since trolling the usual spots has been so unproductive, I decided to try my hand at jigging. Check out this pic of my fish finder. http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/nibbly1/media/photo1_zpsifaprbxz.jpg.html You can see my jig falling on the left side of the screen and a fish rising to check it out/chase it up. They were doing this all day....chasing my jig up but never taking it. You can also see a couple others hanging on bottom. I assume these are lakers???? I was using a jig and white grub. Anyone have any tips on how to get these guys to take the bait? Is there a better bait I should be using? Thanks!
  7. Took my little guy out fishing today with the Father in Law to a small lake not too far from Owen Sound. Got a bunch of dinky perch then one nice surprise wally right before we left. Knew there were walleye in the lake, but heard they were all pretty stunted. At +3lbs, it's a good fish by Grey/Bruce standards. We released it to get bigger. http://s7.postimg.org/ya8jbfarv/photo_3.jpg http://s21.postimg.org/f0o0thv3b/photo_2_1.jpg http://s3.postimg.org/rxpyof3ib/photo_1.jpg
  8. This is all very awesome. Thanks for the feedback! I'll be ordering some stuff shortly. Always good to know that others have had good experiences. Puts the mind at ease.
  9. Any thoughts on this site? https://www.fishingworld.ca/ The prices are extremely competitive on some higher end electronics. Does anyone have experience ordering from them? Thanks
  10. We have a Sienna and love it. We have several family members who drive the Caravans who have driven the Sienna and tell us they love the way it drives/handles. It's the only van I've ever owned. I've been nothing but happy with it, but it definitely is pricier than other options.
  11. Does anyone know of a fishfinder that has down imaging and side imaging with just one transducer? It looks like the Humminbird 899 and 999 models have just the one, but it's not clear. Thanks
  12. What a game! Way to go, boys! Second best moment of the tournament was this... Watching that kid stand on his head against Canada was unbelievable. Classy of the Canadian crowd to give him a standing O.
  13. Happy New Year all. I've got a Lowrance unit I run on my boat with the two transducers (regular + structure scan) off the stern. I would love to put a transducer on the bow mount electric (a Minn Kota Terova) and mount another finder at the front of the boat for when I'm fishing bass or wallies. My question is, what would be the best fish finder and transducer to mount on the electric motor? I'd like to have down imaging and side imaging but only want one transducer. Don't so much care about a chart plotter feature. Thanks
  14. Some monsters in there! Wow! Way to go!
  15. Hi all I want to take my 5 yr old ice fishing in January. Simcoe is relatively close. Can anyone recommend a good kid-friendly outfit? By kid-friendly, I mean ideally they transport you to and from the hut in some sort of covered or heated sled, maintain good huts, and have a good reputation overall. I'm not picky. Perch or whitefish/trout would be fun. He'd probably prefer perch I suppose. Any suggestions? Thanks
  16. Was fishing with my father in an old tinny back when I was probably 14 or so. We were fishing near shore. I'm busy fishing and eying some cute young girls about my age on a dock when all of a sudden my dad, who's sitting at the back of the boat, rips the loudest fart I've ever heard. The whole boat shook. I think it was even louder since he was sitting on the metal bench seat. I look up at the girls, completely mortified. They're staring at us with open mouths. I turn around to give my dad a piece of my mind, and he's smiling at the girls while pointing at me. Hilarious in hindsight. I was looking for a rock to crawl under at the time.
  17. Bought a couple last year. Seem to work pretty well for me. Ran live bait on them.
  18. I have done this. Mind you it was on a creek north of Moosonee, and despite swift current, there was still over a foot of ice. Caught some REALLY nice brookies on cleos and flies on a three way swivel with a weight holding them in place and a slow "jigging" motion to basically move them forward and back in the current. It can be done, but be mindful of that ice. -b
  19. A great case study on a country with unfavorable (aging) demographics that closed its doors to immigration would be Japan. Net result was a 20 year stagnation in the economy, falling asset prices (look and land and stock market values today in Japan vs the early 90s), and massive government debt as an aging population plus falling tax base (i.e. higher dependency ratio) gutted government coffers. Canada's demographics aren't quite as daunting, but the net result of closing doors to immigration would still be very negative.
  20. Thanks for the insights. I'll definitely be looking into winterizing it myself next year. Was a bit intimidated with it being a brand new (to me) boat. Didn't want to screw something up, but I gather it's pretty straight forward. I've contacted the marina to make them aware of this thread and again to reiterate that the price seems very excessive. The icing on the cake is that since the spring, I've dropped at least 7k on that marina buying all my electronics, trolling motor, downriggers, etc through them and having them installed. I guess that was before the new management, but you'd think they would at least want to try to keep their existing client base.
