Update: I went in to talk to them this morning. They absolutely would not budge. They argued that they were package prices and they couldn't move on prices. They said they winterized and did regular maintenance....change oil, etc. Here is a scan of the bill and the checklist. Curious to get people's thoughts. http://s42.photobucket.com/user/fishnguy1/media/Untitled_zpsb6238ef1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 http://s42.photobucket.com/user/fishnguy1/media/Scan1_zps2c00790a.jpeg.html

Yup. Like I said, I'll be back there tomorrow. I'll scan the whole bill and post it if nothing happens. Appreciate all the comments.

It immediately stuck me as very off and I certainly questioned them on it. I had small kids in the car and was already late and it has be stored tomorrow so I wasn't in the position to push too hard at the time. I'll be back there tomorrow. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Looking at the bill now. $456 for labor. $115 for parts and supplies. Plus taxes. Here's the full checklist of what was done: -Put in gas stabilizer -Run engine until warm -Drain oil -Replace filter and oil on 115hp motor -Run engine, check oil level -Fog engine -Drain and fill lower unit -Remove prop, check and lube -Lube outdrive -Put outdrive up -Disconnect battery -Clean up and put canvas back on I'm not mechanically inclined, but that doesn't strike me as almost 5 hours of work.
-
So I'm gathering $100 in parts/supplies plus a couple hours max at $95/hr. That's a heck of a lot less than $650. MAN!!!!!
-
$95/hr for labour. All they did was service and winterize the two motors. No storage or shink wrap, unfortunately.

So I just had my boat winterized for the first time. I'm officially in mourning until April. I bought the boat used this spring and it's my first boat, so was is my first time through the process. I brought it to a local marina to get the work done. I have a 2011 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke as the main motor and a small 6hp 4 stroke early 2000s Nissan outboard as the kicker. Plus I have two live wells. My total bill was $650!!!!!!!! Holy crap! I was floored. Is this par for course or did I get hosed here? As a follow up question, anyone with recommendations for good marinas in the Owen Sound/Grey Bruce area??? Thanks

Never good news, but as you said, could be worse. Praying for a full, speedy recovery!

Not sure why the pics are sideways. They are rightside up on my computer....

Got the chance to do some fall smallie fishing with my father in law on one of my favorite lakes in the Grey-Bruce area. Had to get the kids on the bus, so didn't get on the water until after 9. Still managed 8 nice bass. I was up 6-0 on my FIL until he nailed an absolute monster bass....didn't have a scale but it was a good, honest 5 pounder. Just a hawg. I managed a few nice ones too in the 2-3 pound range. All caught on senkos, drop shots, or blade runners.

Interesting, thanks. I'm not too concerned about getting a 30 lber. High teens are a big fish in my neck of the woods.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the insight.

Just wondering, why there are no Salmon and Steelhead in Simcoe
fishnguy replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
Trout Lake in North Bay area has landlocked salmon or "Ouananiches". Not sure the history of how they got there. EDIT: I see from reading page 2 that I am late to the conversation. Oops. -
I've never had a hit on a downrigger after the sun goes down, but on nice nights, there are always dozens of boats still out in the bay when I come in. Do people actually catch salmon at night in the lake on a fairly regular basis? If so, what do people have luck using? I've never had a hit on spoons or j plugs. Thanks

Hi everyone I haven't posted in a long while. Fishing in Owen Sound has been pretty good the last couple weeks (at least by Georgian Bay standards). We've been getting on average 2-3 salmon in the last couple hours before sun down. All fish have been shallow (50-80ft of water, down 20-40 ft). It's just starting to slow down now. Last night was the first night in a couple weeks that I didn't get a salmon in the boat (just two small bows). Attached is a pic of my little guy with his first two salmon. That was exciting. Also a question for the forum: I have a small kicker on my boat, but in a decent chop, it steers like crap. The last couple times out I've ended up trolling with my 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. I don't plan on doing it often, but are there any major concerns with trolling with the big motor? Obviously it's not geared to run at 2mph for hours on end, but do I risk any permanent damage? Thanks!

Bought a boat! Looking for advice on trolling motor
fishnguy replied to fishnguy's topic in General Discussion
I do a lot of working shorelines and some jigging over reefs. I looked at the ipilots but don't think I'd use the features enough to justify the price. Leaning towards a 24v, 70 lb thrust, 50" shaft sort of setup. Just a "standard" bow mount trolling motor without the bells and whistles is what I'm thinking. Any thoughts on Minn Kota vs Motorguide? -
After a lot of searching and deliberating, I'm the proud owner of a 2011 Sylvan 1700 Explorer with a 115hp Yammy pushing it. It happened pretty quickly. It was a sweet deal and I jumped on it. Pretty excited to pick it up tomorrow. It doesn't have a trolling motor so I'll have to add one to it. Any recommendations in terms of thrust and shaft length and also thoughts on which makes are best? Thanks and a great thank you to all the helpful replies in my previous posts. They were very helpful in the process.

First report: Ice fishing on the Blanche River system
fishnguy replied to fishnguy's topic in General Discussion
Well that muddies the waters a tad. It uses the rod under tension to set the hook. So…….???? -

I had no idea. Is there anything they pointed to explicitly in the regs that makes this clear? -

Well now you've got me wondering. Never even crossed my mind. It's the rod under tension that sets the hook nothing is spring loaded in any way. Will have to dig into it. Very cool device anyway. -

Not as good a fight as you'd assume. They're pretty lethargic. Couple decent runs then up like a boot. -
This is my first report....hopefully the formatting/pics work for me. I spent last weekend up around Kirkland Lake ice fishing with some old buddies on the Blanche River. For the second year in a row, we absolutely slammed big smallies all weekend. I've never seen that before. All bass were 3-5 pounds and they hit all day. Also managed a dozen or so jumbo perch, a couple decent pike (5ish pounds), one lonely pickerel (the target fish), and a couple ling. We also always sink a very big dead minnow (at least 10 inches) on a quick strike rig. Something ran with that on the second day but I somehow missed it on the hook set and it never came back. Had a great fish fry out on the ice as well. Pics below. Also have to do a quick product review. I tried out the JawJacker (you can see it on the ice in the 4th pic). I was very impressed. Very cool contraption. Video here showing how it works: EDIT: Not sure why my pics are so small. Will have to try to figure that out for next time. Sorry.

Interesting maps to waste some time looking at
fishnguy replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Definitely the best one: http://www.awesome-fun.com/11-cool-maps-didnt-teach-school/nggallery/image/world-map-of-penis-size/ Nice to see Canada top the US. Just like in hockey. You're welcome, ladies.
