  1. A tired hamster?? JF
  2. That same P3TA freak will probably complain about how disrespectful the kids of today are. A better ending to that video would have been watching the tree hugger get taken down by a 250 pound security guard who was having a bad day. JF
  3. 32' huh? Must be a helluva tipup on that. JF
  4. That's just an age thang. JF
  5. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Steppenwolf, especially with all the Oshawa boys on here. That was one I forgot on my list. JF
  6. I'm old, so - Beach Boys The Doors Harry Chapin Tom Waits and of course, Frontier Index, my son's band JF
  7. A while back someone was asking for info on fishing here for Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish etc. I got the name of a guide outfit that picks up in the hotel zone, provides all tackle (spinning or Fly), runs real flats skiffs and supplies lunch and beer. I'm pretty sure whoever was asking before has already made the trip but in case anyone is coming later let me know. I'll keep the info just in case. It's $375 for 4 hours (two people) or $475 for a full day. An extra fisherman is $50 but keep in mind there's only so much room on these 18' skiffs. There's no wading due to the muddy bottom in the area which is about 45 minutes north of Cancun. JF
  8. They have the look of Calabrese texture but it's hard to tell fer sure from pics. My wife made me stop baking bread of any kind cuz it was immediately gobbled. Man, warm fresh bread with butter ................ JF
  9. Is that a compact whack or a full size? JF
  10. $4 per half hour max $17 up to 7PM I've been to a few functions there. It's not too bad to get into (by Big Smoke standards). JF
  11. She's got one poor beggar under her thumb already. Do you really wanna be number two? JF
  12. OK. I'll gladly defer to yer mechanical superiority today. My tool box has cobwebs on the drawer pulls. But out of curiosity what don't you like about synthetics? JF
  13. I suspect synthetics are the only way to go, particularly with modern engines. It seems logical that the new oiling systems and engines have been designed with syntetics in mind anyway. JF
  14. What the man says - seriously. JF
  15. Nah. All we got here is mayan type amigos. The closest thang to a harpoon those guys carry are the forks they bring to the tables. Anyway, they're too friendly to harpoon me - I hope. JF
  16. Don't want no Green Peace dweebs screwing up my scam. Tell 'em to save their Rainbow Warrior crap for what they do best, scoring money from the gullible public. I just have to make whalelike noises on the beach and there's no end of lithe lovely ladies rushing to save me, in their bikinis to boot. I may get some pics fer y'all if I'm feeling benevolent. JF
  17. Dawg, I feel yer pain. We haven't had a day over 80 this week and going out to dinner at night we actually have worn long pants once. But here's a Dawg type pic to make you feel better. Sorry there's no fish. I'll have grouper tonight for dinner if it will help. JF
  18. Just for fun throw in an African. JF
  19. Keep the pressure on. The rest will succumb. JF
  20. I'm not an owner of one of these but if I was and if I bought it with the expectation and need of the storage as I bought it, I'd be suggesting to them that legally they misrepresented the product I was buying and at least I was entitled to some kind of abatement if not replacement with a unit that did what I bought it to do. I could come up with lots of examples but here's a simple one. What if the boat I ordered from my dealer was represented to have rod lockers for 7' one piece rods and said so in the literature. After I got it home I discovered it had only 6' rod lockers. How many serious fishermen might be a little ripped that they couldn't store their 7 footers as advertised. That's mispresentation and is a legitimate claim under our legal system. How many of us would just say "Oh rats. Guess I gotta get rid of my one piece 7 footers or else leave 'em on deck." I think not. Perhaps they have fine print in some of the documentation that says it's okay for them to screw up and not have any liability. In my business that kind of misrepresentation, even if innocent, is still actionable. And one can only wonder how innocent this was. Did they know they didn't measure up and did nothing till they got called on it? JF
  21. I don't mind getting some of my fishing kicks vicariously. For real kicks I like to rub shoulders with those fishies you mentioned, plus tarpon, barracuda, and sharks. I'm not sure which is the bigger kick - swimming with them or hunting them with hooks. it's all fun. I can tell you for sure that finding yerself in 60' of water with a couple of 8' sharks 10' away is at least as exciting as your first big bass, mebbe even better. You should try that. JF
  22. Hola from Mexico My friend Rob loaned me a book for poolside reading. It's great, particularly for flyfishermen, but it's got lots of observations many of you will relate to about fishing in general. Although it's not meant to be a flyfishing for Dummies it really puts a lot of fly type lore in simple terms for us unititiated. I'm only partway through but I've already identified a few of the regulars here in some of the chapters. Not the actual person of course but the characterizations and styles. if any of the rest of you read it, or have read it, I'd be interested in hearing if you found the same thing. The book is easy reading, "Sex, Death and Flyfishing" by John Gierach. I highly recommend it. And if anyone has any similar recommendations to offer, I'm all ears. I have a couple of other books that I liked not unlike this one but the titles and authors' names escape me down here in Mexico. I can find 'em when I get home if anyone is interested. JF
  23. We could feel the ice shaking when it was building up speed. We all commented on it before it came into sight from behind the point. I don't remember other cars doing that. My bro-in-law had a 440 R/T Magnum. It was pretty fast and the gas mileage sucked around town. JF JF
  24. Back in the late 60's we were ice racing cars at Young's Point (I think, it was a long time ago) and some guys were running down the lake and throwing their cars into a spin at high speed. I suspect it was locals because all the ice racers were busy with heats. I'm sure it was fun, at least fun until the guy with what was reported later to be a new hemi Charger put on a great show, ending up in the open water at the narrows south of our location. I guess he didn't realize how fast he was going. The car sank but he got out. We heard they brought in a big helicopter from Borden to lift it out. Must have been a pretty expensive donut. JF
  25. I'm sure he means to post a very fast public apology here when it gets sorted out. JF
