  1. My wife would love that idea!
  2. Does anyone keep leftover live minnows bought from tackle shops for future outings? If so, what is the best way to keep them alive and well for a future outing?..In the summer I keep the minnow bucket (closed tightly of course) in the lake when I'll be there a few days, but how about during the spring or winter or when you live in the cities and the next trip may be in a week or so? -skdds
  3. When making this decision for my kayak I spoke with a hobie tech at the company. Apparently DSI alone is somewhat limiting in scope compared to the combo approach known as HDI now. I can't say if I wasted any $ until I've tried it, but it seems the Elite 4 HDI/Gold is worth the money when considering the sum of the features available vs separate purchase of the navionics chip alone. They seem to be selling fast around the GTA lately as well. I have always used a basic hummingbird portable and caught fish though!. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now anyway. Although I likely wont be traveling as far on my kayak, I once got lost in a 9.9 rental so I've been thinking about a GPS unit of sorts for a while. I could use my phone too probably but like to keep that for emergencies. I also guess it depends on how much you want to involve electronics for finding fish and structure on your trips. -skdds
  4. Got one of those for my kayak..will see how goes this year..seems to have gotten a lot of good reviews too!
  5. I am interested in this info too, glad I saw this posting. In the past I have bought stuff from Northland tackle-I've always produced with their products..probably not the least expensive though..skdds
  6. ..I'm into a yak this year..going to keep to the basics to start-at least a fishfinder and rod holder and see where it goes from there. Mostly day trips for me-already making my list of where and when! -skdds
  7. Perhaps try Marine Cradle shop in Sutton..need to google details and for website. I'm working on a similar project for a Kayak and they were helpful when I spoke with them..skdds

    Scugog?

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking about starting out from Caesarea-maps shows some deeper water there..looks like a bit of a walk to the island..!

    Scugog?

Thanks for the feedback! Some slabs sound good too! Hope to get out this weekend! Skdds
  10. Hi Guys, ..I'm hoping to give Scugog a try this winter...panfish and walleye. Anyone have any recent outings there..? How has the bite been? Skdds
  11. Located in the adjacent shops beside the v mills parking lot on the north side
  12. Excellent feedback , I mostly fish inland lakes-muskoka,kawarthas etc so don't need a big water boat and needs to be a car topper. I thought the hobie was cool because its hand free. That type of kayak interests me the most. Don't need a lot of gear other than some electronics. The newer models seem to be built for that. I'd rather go with a trolling motor over the gas though -if it's going to be a kayak I want it quiet. Working on my wish list now-!
  13. Thanks..will check it out!-skdds
  14. I recently became intrigued with the idea of kayak fishing. I usually rent a 9.9 when I go fishing. I have yet to make a boat purchase but would like to do so soon. I was at the boat show looking around at some boating options and noted the kayaks. I have known about this option before but never really considered this option seriously. I looked at a few models-Hobie and Ocean Kayaks.. Given the portability and now the ease to hook up electronics and a trolling motor, I am becoming inclined to seriously consider this type of boat especially for solo trips. For the Kayak crowd...any manufactures that stand out? what are some must haves? Any other feedback is welcome as well. I know there are +'s and -'v es. Sportsman show and fishing show are on deck so will look around some more.. Thanks! Skdds
  15. Thanks guys for the info, not planning on selling these things-will be a family keepsake, mostly interested in the history! Will give one them a try this summer-maybe give the spinner reel a go to!-skdds
  16. Hi Guys, Relative handed me down some old gear and tackle. Of note was the lure below-looks unused and good shape, and an older spin reel. Any idea of the age of these items. I suspect 1950's to 1960's, there are a few other lures that are similar but not in as good shape. Anyone recently fished an older lure? How would you fish these things? thanks skdds
  17. Very Nice! Maybe I ought to try fall next time..
  18. Nice report, I've fished Vernon too..only caught bass...will need to try that sucker float rig sometime for pike!-skdds
  19. tried it few weeks ago..no real luck there. Maybe better earlier in year. Caught some nice smallies from a canoe on the muskoka river about 5 min away though..good luck!
  20. ..suffered the same fate a few days ago fishing with my 5 year old..fortunately I rigged his rod barbless allowing the hook a quick exit. Still did some nice damage to my finger and I think he may have learned a few not so appropriate phrases, however..
  21. Great answers guys. Considering I have yet to hit the 1000 fish mark with any of them. I guess I am all right..until I "want" something new and shiny..
  22. What is the lifespan of the average fishing rod? How long should a well used rod last for until you should buy a new one? I have a few rods I have used for several years, still working ok but each time I land a good fish or catch a hard snag now I wonder if the rod will one day snap! thanks skdds
  23. I'm forwarding regards from Rainbow camp Rich. Tough weekend for me though!. I hope Lakair is productive now, and that you get your 50" at Rainbow in September..will look forward to your report.
