  1. Worked for me last year too..
  2. I fish the east end (near Big Chute ) a lot of times in the summer. Look for my reports. Good bass (LM and SM) and ok pike fishing (numbers) There is current, cover, rocks, weeds, drops offs etc. so adjust tackle accordingly. Senkos, topwaters, Spinnerbaits and drop shots have all been productive. Just try to avoid the summer weekends as LOTS of boat traffic headed out to the lock. I don't know of any guides for that lake. I'd be interested too for new spots. I've heard of guys hooking into walleye and muskie as well, but I've not had great success for those species.
  3. Thanks I'll give it a go, short trip out so gonna need to pack light- spinnerbait, a few senkos, and a few deep diving cranks per porkpie's advice. Hope I can get something!
  4. Hi Guys, I'm going to be kayaking for a few hours around the mouth of the Humber river and near shore on Lake O this weekend. What's biting now..any suggestions? Salmon? Bass? Carp? tx skdds
  5. That a lot more than the whole week is gonna cost! I'm working out of a yak but it has a driver below the boat and I've wrecked it before on submerged rock and wood so I'll still need to watch it as well. Won't cost 3G's to fix though but not worth the aggravation either.
  6. Ok, thanks for the info, that seems to be a strongly cautioned tip around here!
  7. Hi guys, I'm heading up to Kahshe lake (near Gravenhurst) in about two weeks for some R&R (Fishing!). I've read up on most of the posts here about that lake..rocks! etc..but hey that's good for fishing! Has anyone been up there recently? Not asking for your spots but what lures and presentations have been good-bass and toothy fish will be my targets, I'm startn to put my gear together. Thanks! Skdds
  8. Hi Guys, Thanks for the great info! Unfortunately I'm already back! It was a very short trip-three days and half the time dealing with a nasty cold front which probably did not help. Its a nice, nice lake to fish-I did manage to hook up with some nice SM along some rocky areas however, no Walleye or musky for me. I can really appreciate all the suggestions- I am very familiar with the water after this trip and all the places you are suggesting are very clear to me now. I hope to return and give it a go again, that's for sure and Beachwood is a nice place to stay. I was also lucky to briefly meet up with sofabed-he told me he had a very productive week. I spent most of my time at the north end of the bay working the rocky drop offs. I hope to check out the south end next time!
  9. Maybe will bring some crawler harnesses if there are walleye to be had..
  10. Yep, will probably stick close to shore. I'll be staying at Beachwood resort for a few days. Looks like its a good distance from the islands, so I am hoping I can find some good structure and weedlines not too far from the resort. I could rent a tinny I suppose as well and head up there for a change water.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions, not worried about rocks as I'll be working out of a kayak...but this may also hinder my distances (its nice, however, to sometimes not to worry about that sickening sound of prop vs granite!) . Looks like three islands will be quite a paddle depending on weather. I'll check out those lures thanks,.I'll be on the western shore so I will look out for the weedlines and see what I can come up with. I'll be happy to share my results if productive!
  12. Hi Guys, Heading up to fish Lower Buckhorn-specifically Deer Bay. I will most probably target Bass but want to give Musky at try too if I feel lucky. I mostly fish shield lakes so Kawarthas will be a little different I would think. Any productive lures/colours approaches I should look into for Bass and Musky in these waters? Thanks! skdds
  13. ...hobies at Fogh Marine, Sail may also have some kayaks that pedal but not the hobies..skdds
  14. Hands free yaking and fishing is great...really enjoy the Hobie...! my .02
  15. Hi guys, Does/has anyone fished the waters of Ontario Place and surrounding areas? I would like to learn more about this area from first hand experiences-fish species, times of year etc. I fish out of a kayak so I am thinking about launching out of Sunnyside beach and paddling along the inner break wall to the east and west perhaps also into the nearby marina's etc. looking to target pike and bass and perhaps carp-although I have never fished for them, it may be a good place to start....be a good place to watch the airshow too come to think of it! ...Thanks, Skdds
  16. Hi Guys, I though I would post a short report on this lake as I have not found much info online. I have fished it now a few times as we often do family day trips there in the summer. It is close to T.O, has a nice public beach, washrooms, food, parking etc. It is a good place to bring kids and the lake is not too busy even on the weekends which is always a good thing. I have worked the section north of HWY 11 overpass my last few times there. My impression of the lake, in that area, is that there is little structure, and mostly seemed to be a sandy bottom. There are, however, a few large deep rocky areas near and off shore and these are the areas that seem to be holding fish (as expected). At the east side there is a weedy bay that I will likely explore further at subsequent trips. The only fish I have caught have been various panfish and bass. Tried to find pike but has been a no go thus far. Here's a pic from yesterday...did not measure or weigh, but was a good solid fish and there are others to be found I'm sure. Hundreds of $$ on tackle, and nailed it on a crawler and drop shot. Go figure. I'd be happy to hear anywone else's successes/tips there! -Skdds
  17. mono and no leader too I assume, nice!
  18. I'll give those suggestions a try on a future trip. Seems that I'm always getting snags trying to run cranks or harnessess around weeds, so I like skimming with spinnerbaits. I love the senkos for bass. Biggest problem I had this time was current and wind. I casted the senkos wacky style and texas rigged but had a hard time getting them down to where the fish were. I've found the senkos work really well in other muskoka lakes too.
  19. Thanks!, Hopefully I'll be making a return trip, although shorter, perhaps in the fall when the cottage traffic slows...
  20. Well, I spent the last week fishing the mouth of the Muskoka River near Bracebridge. I've fished Lake Muskoka and other shield lakes before-actually I fish mostly shield lakes, but this was my first time at that spot. To my surprise, not a lot of rock (that I could find close by and I fish out of a kayak so can't run the whole lake looking for rocks) but lots of big weedlines. The fishing, for me, was only consistent between 8-9 pm. For whatever reason I got skunked at all other times of the day no matter the lure, for any species other than rock bass! Why? I don't know but always open to suggestions from you guys.?? The upside to the trip was some of my best pike and an awesome walleye. Unfortunately, I had to wait until early evening and dusk each night to catch these! Here are a few pics, all fish caught on a good ole white spinnerbait. This bass, btw, was from Gull Lake, caught a few weeks back by casting a short (12 inch) worm harness lindy rigged to the shoreline -which I learned about from this forum a few days before I went up. The pic does not do it justice as it was a real pig. Thanks for the tech tip! -skdds
  21. Slip bobber and minnow worked at Island Lake during the winter. I would (...and will do that when I head back in a couple of weeks!) give that a try..
  22. All good points, I'll certainly get out there and work the lake and have a good time. The location is not definitive yet anyway. Not sure how big the tourney is but there is a lot of water. Mostly curious why there would be a bold rule about pre fishing finishing 2 days before the tournament...
  23. Does pre-fishing (and a then a tournament) have a great effect on fish in the lake for other anglers? I was?/am? planning a trip to the huntsville area-Peninsula lake, the first week of June for some pike fishing and I noticed that there is a pike tournament on June 7th on Vernon, Peninusula, and Fairy Lakes. The rules for the tournament state no prefishing after the 4th of June. Is that time lag to desensitize the fish so " the bite" is good for the tournament? If so, might I experience a tough bite if I am working the lake during those intermediate days as well, or are the lakes so big that a tournament and pre-fishing efforts are negligable and it should not make much of difference to me either way.? Thanks guys, Skdds
  24. Gloucester pool, (one of my choice fishing lakes) or Island lake at Orangeville-but is motor free, not sure on the regs for both this weekend, but there are pike. I may head to one of them if open this weekend.
