I rarely use leaders. However, I have lost about a 1/2 dozen pike at center island. Maybe it was because of the teeth, maybe the weeds/rocks or because it was just too big for my 10lbs line (Ya, I wish). Maybe I should start to use them more ? My problem is, Im changing my lures too much so the snap's are much better. I guess I could always try adding the leader to the snap?

Last Saturday I went and fished the Grand River. Glen Morris to Paris in a Canoe. Me and my buddy. I dont know what the wind speed was but it was pretty windy (medium) and than rainy. All I can say is we were unable to stay put at the sweet spots and every time some rapids came up we were schitting our pants cause the wind would take us right towards the river rocks. We almost flipped about 20 times and this isnt exactly a crazy rapid river either. I could only imagine how bad it would be if the wind was stronger. I say canoe + wind = find a spot from shore to fish or risk losing your gear to the water gods! hahahah

Ouchy! Ive seen grown men brought to their knees from those stones. All I can say is "Medicinal Marijuana" I wonder if you could use your stone as bait? Get well soon! -
Ive had a few fishing calanders that say so. I believe it affects all fish species. I do think it will increase your odds but, dont forget to factor in everything else that makes for good fishing! P.S. - Did you know that the full moon affects humans? It can delay time reactions and overall focus by a 10th of a second or something (dont quote me on that figure). Thats why people seem a little bit slower and brian dead during the full moon time. Also, there seems to be an overall spike in car accidents and such during a full moon. Spooky huh

I think someone forgot to carry the 1 or something.

Im a little bored at work and thought it would be fun to get a Fishing Pet Peeves Thread going. Some of my Fishing Pet Peeves are: 1) why is it that sometimes when I am shore fishing.... (This happens mostly at Centre Island) another fisherman will come up right beside me and start fishing in my zone when there is tons of room? I have no problems with people fishing beside me but, when there is tons of room for the other guy to go to, why does he have to come right beside me and fish? Move down another 50feet you sot and if this is "your" sweet spot... than wait for me to leave. Have some fishermans respect and stay out of my casting zone. 2) when passers by (non-fisherman) ask "did you catch anything" ? Now this isnt a rude comment or anything and the people asking arent doing anything wrong. However, for whatever reason it annoys me because every single person has to ask it. And most of the time if you tell them, they could care less or dont seem to have any type of response to your answer. me - "yes, I caught a 6lb bass" layman - "oh" whats up with that? ya I know, they are just being nice and making conversation blah blah blah. Well, it still gets annoying after the 3rd time. 3) the weather man who always seems to get it WRONG when I want to go fishing. Sunny day my ass, its freaking cold and the wind is so strong my lure comes back and hits me in the head when I cast. So, anybody else want to share some of their own personal Fishing Pet Peeves?

can you get a telesc. rod for $20? I think they are much more than that... at least the ones I have seen are. For $20 I think your best bet is to go to Canadian Tire or WalMart and see. But, I dont think they carry the tele rods. Only 2pc rods. There is a fishing store at Kipling & 401 (cant remember the name?) and they had one that I think was around $50 and I think it was a Shimano. If you want something small... just get a cheap 2pc 6footer. I hear the Ugly Stick rods last forever but, lack in sensativity. good luck

Outdoorsman, I was at Lake Eugenia last weekend and believe it or not... Im pretty sure I heard about your story from the owners of where I was staying. I had to get a boat lic. as well for the boat we rented as it was under the 4m. It didnt cost us anything and was just a one page thingy? The best thing you can do is..... Go get your lic right away and take it to court. You have nothing to lose by going to court. Go early and if you see the cop there, see what deal the crown can offer you as you probably wont get off but may get something reduced. If the cop doesnt show, which is likely for something like this. Dont make a deal and you will get off scott free. Just show up early so you are the first one called. Cops like to show up late to these things and mess up your plans. If not, chose to go to trial and tell your story about how he yelled at you and was mean in front of your 6 year old and that you thought he was way out of line. Being a local, you may just get off if the judge isnt a soto. Good luck !

I was there last weekend. Stayed at Hawthorn Cottages right on the lake. Great place and only $55 per night for a cabin w/double bed, bbq, microwave, hot plate, fridge, fire pit. They also have boat rentals. http://www.hawthorncottages.ca/camping.html We did very well. My girl friend caught a 6lb bass. I got a 5lb and we both caught several other 2-3lbs as well as the unwanted rock bass & perch. Tons of spots to fish in the boat. There is a big island in the middle which is great to fish around. As well, there is tons of shore fishing which is where we caught most of our fish and the 2 big ones. We didnt do very well in the boat but, it was the middle of the day and extremely hot. You can fish from the causeway on concession rd 8 off of 13 (lots of room but will probably be busy w/the long weekend and all) or you can fish from the Dam which is only 5 min's away from the causeway. (just ask for directions for the Dam w/the steel staircase) The public boat luanch is right there as well. And for sight seeing... there is Eugenia Falls. Ohhh, and there is a burger place on 13 that has the best damn Poutine I ever had in my life! We had a great time and cant wait to go back.

On my way back from Campellford I drove the entire shore on the East side of rice lake and couldnt find a single spot to fish or camp. Its all cottages and private property. On that side it was anyways. Here is a list of 30+ options... as for which ones have camping... I have no idea but if you find out, please let me know as I havent called around yet to find out. http://www.ricelakecanada.com/resort_finder.htm You can also try Catch-More Cottages which is close - its on the Trent. I went there a few weeks ago. Lots of nice people, families and other kids for your son to play with. They have 3 campsites and boat rentals w/plenty of fishing. (but the 3 sites are close to each other and not very private) As well the owners are extremely nice. Also, you can fish the river right in town on a great cement shore line. You have to drive by it on the way there and back so you cant miss it. We fished there as well, no biggies but after the 40th rock bass I stopped counting. Between my girlfriend and I, Im sure we caught over 100 of the little critters! That would be great for the little one. http://www.catch-more.com/ good luck and please let us know if you find a camping spot on rice lake cheers

Man, you could cook a Buffalo on that thing! I wonder how funny it would look when just cooking 1 dog or burger on such a big grill. Just out of curiosity... how many burgers can you cook on that thing at once? We should have a contest to see who guesses right. (kinda like the jelly bean jar game) My Guess would be 65 burgers or 120 dogs or 45 10oz Steaks.

What is the first bait you will throw at bass this weekend?

Ive had the best luck with the Mepps Black Fury w/tail and vibrax minnow spin's. I love my spinners! which of the 2 I will start with depends on a coin toss I guess! hahaha -
oh ya! I will be going to Lake Eugenia which apparently is known for monster bass ? However, we will have to see about that. Ive never been there before so its great to just go somewhere new and explore. I hope its not too busy there. P.S. - if anyone is going to 12 mile lake and finds a huge bass with a red blue fox #3 vibrax spinner in its mouth..... please let me know as I want my lure back! Nothing worse than catching a huge bass, grabbing it for a pic and having it jump, slap you in the face and losing it and your lure before the pic is taken.

I know people are always asking for the GTA and Surrounding fishing spots. I found this map on the fishinontario website and thought I would post it as it is a real gem! http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/pubs/UrbanFishing.pdf I like how they list all the species of fish located in each spot. who knew there were so many spots in and around the GTA Enjoy !
