(turns out Raf and I know each other through friends and had camped at the spot together a few years back - small world!) Here are some more pics of the area I have from 2005. Sorry the pics didnt turn out so well. Im not a computer guy and this is the best I could do through MS paint. cheers

Well, it was a great weekend! I thought I would share a little report from my day of fishing this Sunday @ MooseBay. This is my little secret spot that has been very good to me for the past many years. Its private and its usually pretty good for Bass, Pike, Sunfish, Perch, Rock Bass and as of this year LongNosed Gar Pike have shown up. The last 3 times I went to my spot I had pretty bad luck compared to the amazing luck at the start of the season. However, this Sunday was a different story and it has opened a door for me in regards to using Tubes which I didnt really use before.... but will now. The day started off slow and I was using my normal spinners and top waters with nothing to be caught for the first hour or so. My girl friend was using the same and again, not so much as a nibble. Than at 10:30am I remember looking at the time and as I looked down, I see a LongNosed Gar Pike cruising the shore line right in front of me. I tossed my top water and no reaction, I tried a blue fox silver spin and he just swam away. I guess this wasnt going to be the day I catch the Gar Pike Ive been thinking about all summer since I saw the school of 20 or so back in May for the first time ever. After the Gar Pike failed attempt, I started to use my new StrikeKing - Black, Blood Tubes. About 5 min's later I was realing in my first smBass. And they just kept coming after that. However, my girl friend still was unlucky and doesnt like using Tubes or any fake bait so, more fish for me. After many decent Bass catches ranging from 1-4lbs we went to the other section as things had died down. From there, it was a few more Bass and than he was back, the Gar Pike was now cruising this section of shore and I was ready with my Tube to see if it would work because it was my last hope as I had tried using everything else w/no luck. The scary ass little devil was no more than 4 feet in front of me and right when I sank my Tube in front of his scary ass face, he took it. The thing felt like a sack of bricks and was probably about 3 feet long and a little skinny. Well, I moved him about 6 inches and than my hook came out of his boney ass mouth. No way Im losing this guy and I shot my tube at him because he was running away and BANG! he was on again. I was screaming like a little school girl at my girlfriend to get over and see what I had and just as I was bringing him in... I LOST HIM AGAIN and he ran off into the weeds never to be seen again. Well, at least I finally hooked one (twice) and saw everything from the bite right in front of me. I checked the net and it looks like they are a tough catch with only 3 in 10 hooks being landed because of their boney'ness. I also read that they are sharp as hell and can cut the hell out of you with their teeth and body. So, maybe Im lucky I didnt get him out of the water or I may have been carved up. I tried looking on the web to see what the proper way to hold them are but, I couldnt find anything. So, if anyone has any experience with the LongNosed Gar Pikes... please let me know for next time. After the Gar Pike fiasco, I got a few more nice Bass and it was time to go .. only to be met with nasty highway 400 trafic but... it was all worth it. I learned a lesson this weekend as well. TUBES ROCK! and I am now hooked on them where before today, I didnt know much about them and didnt have any luck. So, thanks to the guys on the board that helped me out with the Tube info. Im a changed man! hahaha So, thats my first little report and Gar Pike adventure. Sorry I dont have any pics.. I dont own a camera and to be honest, I hate having my picture taken. Next time I go, I will try to take one. I hope others had as good a weekend as I did. cheers

whats that mean? Did I offend you or something? I havent seen that pic before and was happy to see it. Not sure how that qualifies me for a cheap shot?
-
Well I havent seen it before .... what else can you say other than THAT PIKE IS HUGE

I take mine and make booby-traps all around my fishing spot so that when other fishermen come close they end up doing a face plant! For real though, I make sure that it doesnt go into the water and that it gets wrapped up tight so it cant come lose and tangle up any of mother natures fine creatures. Oh, I used a spool to net my balcony for my apartment because of the pigeons.
-
Thanks, When I would see that stuff in the store I would always cringe and think $20 my ass! hahahaha I guess you get what you pay for... My only problem is I have this knack for getting snagged and tangled and every trip I take I seem to lose a good length of line. I wonder if it would be worth it for me to pay that much when Im just going to lose it anyways. oh, the joys of fishing

Show us your pics of the smallest fish you've caught!

Nice, Im a fellow musician as well. Ive played Guitar for almost 20years, play keys, and the Sitar for the past 5 years or so (Ravi Shankar Rules!) plus a bunch of hand drums. Maybe we should organize a Fish'n'Jam !!! In order to get on stage and play, you have to catch a fish first... each fish you catch gets you 1 song play time on stage! hahahahaha -
Thanks for all the info guys... who makes the Fireline ? and isnt that the $20 a spool stuff?
-
Snag, you made Coke come out of my nose from laughing so quick and hard. hahahaha no really, you did and it hurts! That pic of your sister kind of reminds me of that she-man Jamie Fox played on In Living Color. I cant remember her name though "wanda?" or something... tooooo funny

I know this has probably been done to death.... but, you try searching "line" and see what comes up! Im trying to learn from the more experienced fisher'folk and I was wondering what people think is the best 8-12lbs line for use on a spinning reel? Whats your favorite? Whats your least favorite? Whats the best deal? Im trying to find some new line and its pretty expensive to try them all so, Im hoping some of you can narrow it down for me as the spider wire just isnt cutting it for me. I would like some nice long casting, low memory/tangle, very strong line (every single package of line has that on it so who knows?) thanks

Thanks for the info guys.... I really do appreciate your help cheers

My fav spot is.... Right where the enterance to the kiddy rides are and the restaurant. From there, go right to the water and you will see a set of rafters. Its just down from the walk bridge. Just fish in front of there and you should have luck. Ive pulled out the nicest pike from that spot. good luck

Sounds good to me Outdoorsman, I also only have internet at work (thought I was the only one! haha) Next time Im in need of a fishing partner I will without a doubt send you a PM a few days before. cheers and good luck in Huntsville!

For those of you that have gone to or heard about Hamilton's Pier 4. I was wondering if anyone could share some info on the area. Pretty please with sugar on top. Ive never been there and am thinking about going. Ive heard that there are bass and pike there. I guess I would like to know if its good for shore fishing (dont have a boat) and anything else I can expect. Is it a busy area? (Id rather not fish when there are tons of people walking by) whats the bite like? Is there plenty of room to fish from shore? different spots? or is everything all clumpt into 1 spot? Any help and any info anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. thanx

Outdoorsman, Ya, we fish from shore (causeway and dam) because I dont have a boat. (sigh) I guess we could have rented one from where we stayed (Hawthorn) but, we just wanted to fish from shore because the last time we rented a boat we didnt catch anything and the motor kept getting weeded up.... So when you ask me if Im coming up... is this an invite to come out on your boat ? hahahaha Because if it is... I am more than willing as its only an easy 1hr & 1/2 drive as Im in Toronto and I really do love that area. (best Poutine from the lady in the truck on hwy 4 and burgers from the restaurant by the dam) Im trying to decide what Im going to do this weekend as I want to fish either Sat or Sun and my girl friend still doesnt know if she is working or not. Are you going to hit the water this weekend on Eugenia?
-
Funny you mention that Outdoorsman, My girlfriend and I just got back from a Sun-Tues Lake Eugenia outing.... The bite was tough but, once I started throwing my mini-torpedo.... I was able to land some bass from the causeway Sun and Mon. Tuesday was a write off. I was only able to land 1 bass from the dam. I went through all my spinners, cranks, plastics, and live worms and got nothing but little critters. The mini-torpedo on the causeway was the magic for this outing. We saw so many Trout and bass right in front of us but they just werent biting. It seemed that they were more into watching us than having a snack. Nothing worse than having all those nice big fish taunting you and refusing to bite. I bet Sep/Oct is prime time for that lake and I cant wait to go back.

I want! I wonder if you get hungry if you could take a bite out of it? hahahahaha

Maybe it was a Jaguar who decided to take a trip because he heard how great the fish were down here? hahahaha http://www.galleryone.com/images/frace/fra...ck%20jaguar.jpg

If you go to Centre Island and use spinners like Blue Fox Silver/FireTiger #2,3 r 4 or Mepps Black Fury Spinners #2,3 or 4. w/or without tail. You are almost sure to catch some Pike. The last time I was there I got a nice one. I didnt measure or scale it but, holding it up it was from my head almost to my knees and Im 6foot tall. That one I caught with the Black Furry Red dotted Spinner w/red tail spinner lure. My fav spot there is right in front of the entrace to the kiddy rides where the restaurant is.. from there, walk to the water. There you will see a set of rafters which may look like a building/washroom from the back. Just fish right in front of there. I found it to be a hot spot and there arent too many people walking by and there is lots of room. As well, you have seats right there to relax where people cant see you. Just make sure you have your fishing lisence cause the cops boat by all the time. Ive never been asked but, just in case you know. Also, if you want to spend the $$.... get the paddle boat rental and paddle out and test your luck. you can get out into the water in front of those rafters and down a bit... you will have good luck. cheers

Rick, Being a collector myself, I assure you that you have nothing to worry about. Especially with your credit rating. If anything happened to your credit over this, you could take legal action and easily win. If the collection agency even mentioned to you that your credit rating would be affected they can get in deep trouble. The nature of your bill does not warrant a bad credit rating. What you want to do is make sure that you put your dispute in writing (fax it and keep the confirmation or send by registered mail), make it clear that you do not want them to contact you again and if they do, you will take legal action as well as file a complaint to the Ministry of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. There are so many laws protecting you. If I was you, I would record the collection agency call and make them cross the line. (you are legally allowed to record the conversation without their permission in Canada - you dont have to tell them either). What you do is (while recording) you tell your story, tell them it is disputed and that you asked that they not call you again (once you tell them that, they are not allowed to call anymore) and you say that "you told me before this would affect my credit, is this still the case". If he says "yes". They are screwed. You play this recording for the collection manager and your problem will go away. If they still try to hardball you, tell them you are going to call the ministry, if that still doesnt work, actually call the ministry and complain and let them listen. Most collection agencies already have black marks and 1 more complaint can cost them their lisence so they wont want you to call. Especially over a $200 bogus bill. Also, every collector must have their individual collectors lisence # at hand and must provide their full name and lisence# upon request. If they dont, they are screwed. So first and foremost, ask them for this info. If they dont have it or dont provide it and you have it on tape... they are screwed. If you want more advice etc.. feel free to PM me.

Holy Pike! 500 fish in a week! thats crazy! Between 2 people at 8hrs a day for 7days thats an average of 1 fish per every 10minutes. Thats my kind of fishin!
-
That sounds like a pretty good idea. The only problem is... Im more of a spinner guy so I dont have all the scents etc. on hand. I just have a bag of Power Bait Tubes and to be honest.. I have not had much luck with them and only pull them out if the weeds are too crazy for the spinners. I was just curious to know how long the scent on these things would last. Should I change them up after 2 hours in the water? or does the scent last all day? would leaving the pack out in the sun all day ruin or taint the scent?
-
I was just wondering how often the Tube users out there change their Tubes? Do you use the same one all day (if not damaged/eaten) or do you change them up more frequently? Im curious to know how long the scent lasts or if that is only part of it? cheers
