  1. Nice perch, ya gotta love Erie for hawgs!
  2. Very nice, love steel on the fly.
  3. Hey Doug, a spinning reel can be used for float fishing, it is what many of us started with before centrepin reels were readily available or popular. The spinning reel isn't as effective as the pin for presentation, but you can still catch just as many fish.. Just a little more cumbersome to get a good drift, especially on larger rivers. Hey Mike, which photo is your patented pose? LOL
  4. Hey Rock, I remember your buddy, he pulled in just after us and beat us to the river LOL. I wasn't worried, that is the nice thing about that area, not much traffic. Most of the time there are less fish than other spots, but I like the peace and beauty of fishing there. I did see your post Aaron
  5. Thanks Harrison.. Lonnie is a great guy. Always enjoy fishing with him. He doesn't do much tributary steelheading, so this was a treat for him. He got just as many fish as I did and had a blast Good to see you also had a great opener! Aaron
  6. Looks like a great day for sure. Not one person in your pics on the Ganny, sweet
  7. Looks like a great trip! Cool stuff boys.
  8. I fished a small Lake Ontario tributary with Lonnie King on trout opener and had a great time. We got into a bunch of steelies each on fresh roe and soft single eggs. The water was ridiculously low and clear, worst I have seen in 30 years of the trout opener. You can view a couple pics of Lonnie from an Aaron Shirley http://twitter.com/GettingHookedTV update from my Blackberry. Lonnie took a bunch of other shots that turned out great! Will post them when he sends them to me. Lonnie sent me a handful of pics from his digital SLR.. although he didn't send many of him, and I did take a bunch! The bite was good first thing in the morning, then we had to use stealthy tactics to get them after a couple of hours of daylight. We walked around pools and runs, then crawled up the creek to make a cast and fish a pool down current from us. This worked, but we had to keep moving around to get bites, as a hooked fish thrashing would spook the others in a pool. We didn't see many people which was nice on openers, and I had a good time taking Lonnie out steelheading. I used a smaller new 11-foot North Coast Rapala rod with my other pin, and with the low clear water on such a small creek, it was awesome! Much better for small creeks than my 13-foot rod. This recent rain will trigger a major push of drop backs to migrate back to the lake. It may be slim pickings come Monday, but there will always be some late spawning drop backs in the lower stretches of creeks and rivers for a week or two after opener. Don't wait to get out there, get on some creeks and rivers before they are gone back to the big pond! Hope to see you in your neck of the woods next Lonnie. Good fishing!
  9. That is a nice eye for sure. Good to hear they are on. Made a trip with Barry weeks ago (Sat of FLW), and it was a tough fish from FI and up river. Had a couple of bite-offs and a small musky. Almost everyone we talked to had a tough day for eyes but got a musky. Is the river is infested with muskies? Mostly small? Are the muskies there come opening? Good fishing! Aaron
  10. Very nice bucks! It is really gratifying catching fish on your own creations
  11. When I opened this thread, I expected to see photos of the... wild life. Pesky critters are no fun. I had a bad squirrel problem once, now it's racoons and skunks. The latter bothers me most. I had my backyard nicely landscaped last year and it has been trashed several times a week since.
  12. Very nice drop backs WTG boys
  13. Very cool poem and pics!
  14. Haha, very funny MJL, although my 'cool' status might shift to San Francisco LOL I still haven't had a chance to get on the main Facebook site at home to see all the options. Hopefully by the weekend or early next week, and I can finally update my profile.
  15. Haha Blaque, don't think I'll give up the boat or fishing any time soon The only reason I am even able to join Facebook now is because I have a Blackberry. I am rarely at home, and when I am, I rarely have time to hop on-line. You just might see me on the water yet
  16. Congrats on the pin! I recommend going to a field or your backyard and learn to wallace cast. I made the mistake of trying to learn to wallace cast with my first pin on a river when the bite was good. Learning to wallace cast went out the window! I just wanted to hook fish. Had to put up with bad line twist casting off the side of the reel after that. Good luck with the new pin, there will be no looking back now
  17. I'm hoping to try the DR this weekend as well. It will be my first exploratory trip there too. I'm pumped!
  18. Ahh, another good tip.. Don't accept my wife as a friend LOL joking! She knows where I am and what I'm up to all the time anyway
  19. Cool kitties. WTG Didn't know anyone ate them from the Grand.
  20. Thanks for the tip Geoff! I'm pretty Facebook "green" right now, but I'll figure out how to create a group with that name when I jump on my pc. I've only been on Facebook on my Blackberry so far. Thanks again! Aaron
  21. LMAO I am actually not that bad with technology, although ya wouldn't know it right now LOL. I still can't figure out how to get my Facebook URL from my Blackberry. Maybe I have to be on the regular site, not mobile? I'll get on at home and update my profile and grab the URL. Will be much easier Thanks for answering my dumb question!
  22. You have been given some great advice here. I will add that boat control, location and specific lure or bait choice and colour at certain times is the key to success. I have written extensively on steelheading the Niagara available at gettinghooked.net via articles-trout. Although it is great to read up, you can't replace time on the water. It took me many years fishing 2 to 3 times a week to consistently produce numbers of steelhead on the Niagara. I spent many fishless and low number days for years learning that river without much help. What I'm trying to say is, don't be discouraged if you do poorly at first. It is common. You will do well armed with some knowledge, patience and willingness to experiment and learn. Hiring a good guide will shorten your learning curve bigtime. I recommend Paul Castellano, he is good and knows his stuff. Whether you hire a guide or try it on your own, I hope you get into some nice steelies. Oh yeah, I always have both ON and NY licence to fish that river! Good fishing! Aaron
  23. OK, this might sound really dumb, but how do I get a link for my Facebook? Aaron
