  1. Man all you guys and your football brookies are just killin' this little crick fisher.
  2. None of the braids, or "superlines" have good abrasion resistance. period. They are too thin and have very little, or no, coating to protect them. 10lb XT mono is better than 20lb power pro when it comes to rocks and mussels. A mono or fluorocarbon is the way to go if needed and the length will depend on the conditions.
  3. Gretzky clipped Glimour and crusty the clown cross-checked Tucker but other than that, your point was made.
  4. Just looked at the October/November issue of In-fisherman. They had some fishing quotes listed and one was: My best fishing memory is about some fish I never caught. George Orwell
  5. Great stuff Mike. Lots of work to pull a report like that together and it is appreciated by so many here. Thanks!
  6. I haven't been following it too closely but I think it is a least as much about term as it is about the per year dollar amount.
  7. Well that was fast. From FAN 590: Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. has just announced the resignation of Tom Anselmi, the Chief Operating Officer of the company
  8. Ben put me us on these last fall:
  9. Some of the media guys are very sensitive. They do not like the tables being even slightly turned. TV, radio and newsprint. They have had the almost exclusive ability to influence the fans but now some players can reach out to a section of fans and counter a talking head and some of them are very hissy about it.
  10. Sorry, arena WILL be ready. They expect to be able to have their pre-season games as scheduled.
  11. Interesting side note from the Brian Burke press conference, the Flames' arena is ready to go after the flooding.
  12. Some might suggest that "almost 4 weeks" is very similar to "less then 4 weeks"… And rookie camp games don't count.
  13. I'm not about to defend Nazem (and certainly not his agent), but I'm not going to bury him either. He is not under contract. Training camp doesn't start for almost 4 weeks. As much as young players need camp if he doesn't have a contract he can't take the chance of skating with the team (if the team even lets him). The Leafs know this, Nazem knows this. This is a negotiation, please don't act like it's the first one you've witnessed. The league got their 3 year entry level contracts they wanted because they kept blowing their brains out on duds (Alexandre Daigle would be exhibit A). The result is now they can't make up their minds on what the market on these RFAs is before they become UFAs.
  14. "Nazem Kadri is an idiot" … and you can take that to the bank 'cause the expert has spoken.
  15. It would be very unlikely that you would encounter many/any locals that don't understand English in Montreal. Being extra polite goes a long way. Old Montreal would be a definite place for a walk and Mount Royal would be another. No right turns on a red light if you are driving.

  17. Great day! Gulp here for this guy too, or other scented plastics. More efficient, cheaper, cleaner and just as effective.
  18. I don't know, I'm a stomach sleeper, but I may still have to give that a try.
  19. Ya, I usually lip it and then use the pliers. Sometimes if there both sets of trebles are in the mouth I will hold on the hook with the pliers and then use my hand or a second set of pliers to remove the hooks.
  20. Background: Had a chance to do some fishing this weekend while away with the family near Picton. Mostly me and my friend and our sons in a small boat with an electric motor (no outboards allowed on lake). Much of the time on the water was spent dodging mis-cast lures, waving rod tips, debating the various ways little boys take bathroom breaks while in a boat and of course answering the usual never ending questions from kids. The fishing was very good. Lots of fish for kids and adults alike, bass (both SM and LM), pike and panfish. My Catharsis: We make our way over to a classic looking smallmouth spot. A steepish shoreline and lots of fallen trees. I fired a cast right next the best looking ambush spot and before I could turn my reel handle a bass smashed my jig. The smallmouth immediately headed for the sky and all of the boat's occupants were treated to a series of spectacular leaps by what might be the biggest bass I have ever caught, the kids might have been almost excited as the adults. After finding no escape going high the monster headed to the depths and, as most would suspect, the fish sinisterly wrap my line around some deep timber. The franken fish was still on, but wrapped solid. All the usual methods were unsucsesful and in the end I used a leather glove to pull on the line as a last ditch effort. (I even considered diving down to the branch but with the small kids in a small boat I didn't want to chance the getting back in part) The line broke and we silently moved on and caught lots more fish, including some really nice ones at dusk on topwaters. A few cold, stiff, drinks back at the cottage, a great steak, Nona's zucchini parmesan and the best tasting corn on the cob ever could not get the image of that bass out of my head. Knowing the way an angler's mind works I will never know how big that bass truly was. It seemed like it was eight pounds while seven feet in the air (neither are close to reality) but it was a solid fish that was likely as big as any I have ever caught that I will always remember: midair, glistening, broad-side and right next to the branches. I guess that's why we go fishing. What about you? What fish got away that you think about when your mind is quiet?
  21. The counter is that you have to store the boat(s) during the winter.
  22. I know it's a long weekend because the tv news people are standing right beside the highways telling us to be careful.
  23. x2 for the Costco warranty. I now treat tvs as the disposable trash that the companies now make them. Took me a long time to come to terms with buying junk but I don't worry about it anymore. It's a tv, not my recreation equipment.
  24. Does it makes sense to you to try to have a formula for spots? Species, bottom type etc?
  25. Make sure the rods are in a good case.
