  1. So, what are your plans for the weekend ?? You heading away anywhere ?? Myself, I'm off to my trailer later today for 6 days of fish'n, then very early next Thursday it's off to Lakair on Nippissing for another 5 or 6 days lookin for some LARGE toothies, and then I'm not sure where I'll drag the boat after that.....ya gotta luv retirement Howz bout you, where are you heading for ?? Wherever you head, make it a safe one !!!!
  2. Yeah, they eat from our hands all the time Brian, both the red squirrel and the chippies. Those blue jays are fun to watch too, we have 7 that hang out in the tree on the front lawn and sit in the branches about 10' up. I can toss a peanut out and they'll almost get it before it hits the ground......really fast. Good to see your also a critter fan too Brian Rich, the ones at my place put 3 peanuts in their mouth at once, then scurry off and hide them in the wood pile.
  3. I forgot about these couple pictures I took last weekend. We've got 4 chipmunks & a red squirrel that have become regular guests at the trailer and spend most of the day with us. We leave a bowl of peanuts on the deck and they just help themselves, but I set it up on the table to get a couple pictures of them. Not a big deal, but I enjoy this kinda thing
  4. Smiles are what I do best, my friend
  5. Good luck on Cameron this weekend Mike, hope you nail a biggun. Robin & I fished it last summer & got 3 or 4 fish for the day. You've also got a PM
  6. Lookin pretty snazzy Terry........very nice !!!!
  7. Not a secret Joey, their weighted Sledges, but their a good bait and unfortunately the manufacturer has changed hands and the weighted version isn't available anywhere in the GTA......at least not anywhere I know of and I thought I pretty well knew them all.
  8. I've been looking for a couple musky baits that are no longer available in the GTA. I need them for tomorrow and then for my upcoming Nipissing trip next week, so at 3:00 yesterday afternoon, I phoned my old pal Stacey Ash at protacklemuskyshop.com and sure enuff he had exactly what I needed. He said he'd ship them immediately and guaranteed I'd have them by tomorrow. Well guess what, they arrived by express delivery today at noon.....only 21 hours from Belleville. I've ordered alot of stuff from Stacey and his service has always been excellent We always knock the bad service.....it's good to advertise the great service too Thanks Stacey, you saved my week !!!!
  9. Maybe your just smiling too much Ken and that scares them away. Do what I do and never let the fish see you smiling, it works everytime !!
  10. Ken, as I said in my 1st post, you still need to put the hook where the fish is. Doesn't really matter how good you become with the equipment, or how accurate you are with the casting, if there aren't any fish where your fishing, you still won't be catching any. You need to keep practicing with the gear, but even more importantly, you need to practice figuring out where the fish are holding at different times of the day. Once you put it all together, life becomes much simpler, but don't forget, learning all the new techniques is part of the fun, and once you decide you have nothing more to learn, then you've lost the fun of fishing. Enjoy the learning process, it's the best part of the sport
  11. Well, you can spend all the $$$$ in the world on fish'n gear, but at the end of the day, you still need to cast the hook to where the fish is sitting before you can catch him. Don't get frustrated Ken, it just takes plenty of time on the water and lots & lots & lots of practice to get it right. One of these days it'll all come together for ya
  12. I don't fish for bass anymore, but when I did I always preferred a baitcaster set-up. My 2 favorite combos were both Shimano V-rods with a Compre on one and a Castaic on the other.
  13. Sounds like a fun few minutes Richard, it's always interesting when things don't go according to plan. Any pics of that big girl ??
  14. Good stuff Joey, no such thing as a bad trip to Lakair !! 7 more day for me
  15. I've been using the Navionics Gold chart this year and am very happy with it. Nice coloring, plenty of detail and it's easy to troll the drop-offs with the contour lines. I also like the way the humps stand out in a different color. Trouble is, it doesn't cover Nippissing, so yesterday I went out and bought that map for an upcoming trip but it only comes in the Hotmap. The Gold was about $235 and the Hotmap was $180 Question is, what's the difference between the 2 different formats ?? I fished Nippissing with Irishfield in June and he had the Hotmap, and it looked basically the same to me. And why is there $55 difference in the price. hmmmmm
  16. I've shown this picture before Mike, but it's so textbook for fishing right in front of a major storm moving in. It had been very hot & humid for several days and the radio was calling for a major thunderstorm to move thru the area in the evening. My buddy & I kept an eye on the sky and just before it seemed ready to hit, I told my wife I was going fishing and would be back soon. We hopped in the boat, ran full tilt down the lake to a favorite spot, I made 5 casts and got this guy, took a picture, realeased the fish as the lightening bolts were flashing over my left shoulder, and headed for home. Total time from when we left the dock till we returned was 15 minutes. My wife said, "what's wrong, I thought you guys were going fishing ??" I said "we did go fishing, it just doesn't take long to catch them" Only bad part was about 20 minutes later the trailer park was hit by lightening and it blew out my satellite & TV but that's another story.
  17. I agree with you 100 % Mike, any change in the weather can be a good thing and when a low pressure front is moving in, the fish'n normally changes for the better. I've never used the sundogs as an indicator, but it certainly makes sense. My favorite time on the water is when a severe storm is just moving over the horizon and the sky is jet black, but you gotta be quick with that one and be on the prime spot, specially if there's lightening associated with it.
  18. Everythings fine from the Big Smoke too
  19. Mine appears to be back to normal again........life is good
  20. I like to be barefoot in the boat too, but I keep a very neat boat and if the baits aren't being used, their hung up on the wire, safely outta the way. I find if there's a safe & convenient place to keep them, I'm more inclined to put them back. I've seen too many folks just drop baits on the floor of the boat when their not being used and a 7/0 treble in the sole of your foot isn't a pretty sight Even when I catch a fish and he's in the net, the hooks are removed and the bait is hung on the outside of the boat till I'm done dealing with a fish. Unfortunately it won't be too many more months till were wearing fleece lined boots in the boat while sliding around the deck on the ice.......dang Hang them up and you don't need to worry about where they are
  21. Hey Jer, we were fishing a favorite spot just west of you last Friday and we were driven off by all the jet-skis terrorizing the water and fishermen. I felt like I was being attacked by a swarm of giant yellow and red hornets. You'd think with all the open water on that lake, those jack-asses could find somewhere else to play, other than 50' from a couple people trying to cast. I think the guy that invented jet-skis should be tied to a floating raft and have 1000 of those morons spend an entire weekend screaming around him. Maybe jet-skis are OK in the hands of normal people, but so far I haven't come across any yet.
  22. Thanks boyz, it was just a bulb as suspected. It happened at 5:30 this AM and I was just too lazy to get outta the truck and look at it
  23. Thanks wb, that's what I'm assuming too, I just didn't want to pay for a flasher if it's not required
  24. I was out in the truck this morning and my right turn signal started flashing about twice the normal speed. The left side works fine and the 4 ways are normal. Is it just a bulb needs replacing or has the flasher seen better days ?? It's an 05 Safari
  25. Awesome Marc, you never fail to produce !!!!
