  1. Good to finally see the pics of the new ride Pete, she's a real beaut and should serve your needs well for many musky filled years to come My buddy has almost the same set-up and and it's an excellent package, both for fishing and pleasure trips.
  2. And good mornin to you too Bill, looks like another fine day starting up I'm heading out shortly to take the pooch for a walk down to Ashbridges Bay and catch the sunrise over Lake O
  3. Good stuff boyz, been waiting all winter for those kinda reports !!
  4. Good to see you back Joyce, it's been quite awhile since you've been around. Best of luck with the farm and who wouldn't want 160 acres for a backyard ??
  5. Awesome fish Michael, and congratulations on reaching a milestone that most Canadian bass fishemen/ladies can only dream of !!
  6. Peter, anyone attempting to make their own baits could learn alot from you bud !! Your baits are some of the best homebrews I've ever seen....and yes, they do catch muskies and stand up VERY well
  7. Looks like another good day on the water for you Mike......as you always have......and congrats on the new home your buying. Don't worry about the missing wallet, it'll turn up again......... the day after your replace everything
  8. I'm gonna agree with the sheriff on this one Paul, you'll go a long ways to find a better built bait that stands up to alot of abuse without coming apart. I've got a boat load of them and have never had a problem with them at all. You'll pay $20 - $25 for the bigger models at JB's or Tightlines but they're definetely worth it.
  9. It's always sad when an old piece of history is lost forever.
  10. I agree 100% Raf, 4 good dedicated winter tires is the way to go, even if your vehicle is only 2 wheel drive. Nothing worse that being stuck on a snow covered road behind someone who thinks all season tires actually means ALL seasons.
  11. Leave a few for me boyz, I'll be heading down on the 16th for our annual 4 day trip. We camp at Bass Cove park down by Adolphustown.
  12. Haven't seen his show in a few years now but Bill Dance was the absolute worst when it came to staging anything. Don't think I've ever seen another fisherman who had 4 pound bass put up as much of a fight as EVERY SINGLE ONE he caught. He'd be up & down, and back & forth fighting those fish and they'd be taking him all over the boat and you'd be expecting him to hoist up a 200 pound marlin the way they'd fight, then he'd hoist up this little 4 pounder. I dunno, is old Bill even on the tube anymore ??
  13. Hey Pete, once you decide which unit your gonna buy, have a look at Radioworld @ hwy 400 & Steeles as they have some excellent prices when compared to other marine electronics shops around here. For my X510c they were roughly $80 cheaper than BPS or LeBarons and are usually about the same as Cabellas for many units. Just a thought for you. http://radioworld.ca/index.php?cPath=3
  14. As I mentioned in another thread HH, I've used mono both for main lines and as leaders for pickeral for years and have always been very satisfied with it and also normally do very well with it, but this year I'm gonna be trying the fluoro just to see if it does infact make any difference. It certainly won't catch less fish, but may infact catch more just because of the lesser visibility of it and I figure it's certainly worth a try next month
  15. Wayne, many of us spend the entire summer on or immediately around the water.......but we all don't manage to drop 3 cameras overboard
  16. Saw on the news last night that they've got some real serious flooding around the homes up in the Innisfill area and they were saying it could get lots worse before it gets better. We've got several members of OFC in the area and hopefully their all staying high & dry.
  17. Who woulda thunk a Torontonian would ever throw junk in the harbor Always enjoy your fish'n tales bud and will be lookin forward to more of your adventures when you get back to piking in May
  18. I just took this picture addy79, but even though it didn't come out too clear it should give you a basic idea to make up some leaders. The sleeves have 2 sides to them, so you run your leader material thru the 1st side, then thread it thru ring on your swivel, and then run the leader down thru the other side so you now have it looping from one side to the other with your swivel attached. This is where I like to leave lots of slack and burn the tag end of the leader material to form that little ball to keep it from sliding back thru the sleeve. It's not neccessary to do this but someone showed it to me a couple years back and I just kept on doing it. After it cools down, slide it back to the sleeve, then adjust the size of the loop you want.....I like to leave about 3/4" but you can do whatever you want......then when everything is good, crimp the sleeve, but don't over-do it or you'll cut into the leader material and ruin it. I like to crimp both sides to be sure it's secure. For the other end, you just need to make a loop, crimp it, and then you can attach your snap afterwards. I payed about $25 for the crimping tool but you can get them for alot less if you want. I bought mine at JB's in Etobicoke, but most decent tackle stores should carry them. You didn't say what size fluro you want to use, but the spool of 130 pound Seaguar will run you about $55 for a 50' spool, and then I assume it'll be a bit cheaper as the line size diminishes. Hopefully that helped you understand what's involved, but it's all very easy once you've made a couple. BTW, I have no idea why those swivels look rusty because they certainly aren't
  19. I may have mislead you Addy, what I meant was I just heat the very end of the leader material till a small ball forms, and then adjust your loop size and crimp it all down. Once that small ball hardens, it'll just prevent the leader from pulling back into the sleeve if the crimp isn't done right.
  20. Fish Head Ric wrote up an excellent article on making fluoro leaders but that was a couple years back on the old board and probably isn't available anymore. They're very easy to make though and you can just tie them if the line isn't too heavy or you can use the metal crimps, just be sure you have the proper size crimp for the line your using. Myself, I like to use a lighter and melt the tag end before I close up the loop and crimp it down just incase there's any slippage. Just be sure you don't clamp down too hard on the crimp and cut into the line.
  21. Thanks guys, I wasn't really concerned with the 10 pound fluoro being strong enough and as I said earlier, I've been using 10 # mono leaders for years with no issues other than the odd Quinte pike, I was more interested in whether anyone has had issues with the actual Seaguar in the smaller diameter. The heavier test is excellent, but I've never used the small diameter Seaguar. Some brands just don't seem to be nearly as strong as stated and seem to break sooner than expected. I was looking at the Berkley Vanish originally but heard alot of nasty things about that stuff. I was just gonna go with a fluoro lead rather than mono for a change.
  22. WTG Joey, you've been on a real hotstreak for months
  23. For casting I like 65# Power Pro & trolling I use 80# and have 130# fluoro leaders on everything. Lotsa guys are moving up to 80 pound for casting also so as not to have the line snap on a backlash with heavy baits.
  24. Yeah I know what your saying Jamie and you could very well be right. I've been using 10 lb mono for leaders for years and it was never really too much of an issue.........well except for the pike that walked away with a brand new Dr. Death a couple years back that had been in the water a grand total of 5 minutes. Fastest $12 I ever spent
  25. Thanks Golfisher, that's what I was hoping to hear. I figured if the heavy stuff was good, then the smaller should be good too.
