  1. Again you Trout guys sound like you are speaking Klingon to an old time Walleye guy. I caught my first Rainbow 3 years ago trawling for Walleye here on Erie. I thought I caught another a few weeks later only to be told it was a Coho. Look at the lips boy, the lips.
  2. You can't vote for yourself. So I'll vote twice for you my friend. You deserve it the formost popular thread, hands down, 90 some odd pages is proof in the pudding. Pudding, food, get it. edit: there is no vote, it's a general consensus, everyone knows who they like in their hearts. All those that think they won should stand in front of their homes waiting for Fed Ex next Monday. Wear something warm.
  3. How do you get Ramen noodles to become Gnochs Rick? I'll try. Polenta and Cream of Wheat are similar in consistency. I meant to say Grits Grits is Polenta. There may be sugar in Grits, not sure.
  4. We are installing a new furnace this year. Since we started no cold or snow. My brother is doing it and I told him no rush. It's been sitting here for over a month. Maybe March. Next year a snowmobile. The problem is when to install the central air.
  5. The cars I do detail are usually high end stuff. The same customers for years. I have been doing the same Porsche 911 since new in 86. My favorite is a friends 68 Rolls he takes out twice a year, maybe. That takes 2 full days. I'm talking Q Tips on the chrome and small paint brushes on the dash, remove the seats etc. I'm basically working for peanuts on a few.
  6. I nominate Manitoubass2's Cooking thread, most popular for sure. 2nd Best Drifters thread on his "cabin construction" Tough one. Worse sports thread anything "Hockey" or "Maple Leafs". Best sports thread "Blue Jays". Best fishing report thread" Anything Mike Borger". Best non fishing nothing to do with anything. "Anything by me". Best digression in any thread "Me again". Best I hate the anything Government threads " Big Cliff". Best heart breaking "Irishfield" More folks?
  7. You misread what I said Chad a few 100 K including the home. I hear what you are saying and like I said respect your decision. I also misread what you said, when you said a $1000.00 for comp I assumed that's what you pay. Believe me my only toy is my boat. The others are the truck and car. I have replacement cost and pay big for them as they are both fairly new. The premiums for replacement weren't much more than base coverage. That only is good for another year I think. I have been where you are when I did my own repairs too and did what I had to do. That car of yours wouldn't qualify as a hoopdee to me, nice car to me. You should see some of the beaters I have driven, not so long ago, some had rear windows. I wasn't born this old and responsible. I was making 500 a month once and rent was 200 in 73'.
  8. This year sucked. Only a few days left and I can't wait. All my good years for me are even number years. Come on 16'. It can't be worse. Only caught a dozen Jumbo Perch and lost 2 of my closest and dearest friends to Cancer. Hard to compare a few fish with loosing friends but we are fisherman. Sick actually if you think about it. The lack of fish was the first thing that came to mind!!
  9. Like I said a good wash and wax is $300.00.
  10. Santa was good to you. That is 1 sexy outfit. But buy a Scotty rod holder for 25 bucks man and save the pain, seriously. I put it in the holder and keep my finger on the line even with the spool open if sensitivity is an issue. I blew both my elbows out badly requiring surgery on 1 from trolling in fast water on the Ottawa River. My Dr. said I had Tennis elbow, I said I don't play tennis anymore, it's from trolling. He said well you have fishing elbow, I asked for a prescription for a rod holder. He kicked me out, again.
  11. I hear you RC and respect your decision, don't agree though at all, no way. What you said before isn't what you are saying now. I would just kick myself and never sleep if someone decided to steal any of my vehicles or our shack burned down and not have insurance. I bet I have 5 grand in tackle alone, another 5 in tools I don't use anymore. My comp premium for homeowners is 700 bucks including liability for the property, 100 for the vehicles. That would be a bad business decision for anyone. We have around 60K in vehicles here and a few hundred K of dwelling and contents. Insuring them for comp is a no brainer. I don't get your way of thinking. I'll leave it at that. For the damage I see 1500 is a deal. My wifes front bumper, the ground effects and 1 headlight was 3 grand. No metal damage.
  12. We have a number of boats to refurbish over the winter. We are going to paint 3. Cars yes, I have lost count of how many I have painted but none of us has ever painted fibreglass with gelcoat or Aluminum. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. There is much advice on the web and much advice is contradictory. A link to good sites would be of great help. Time to get off my butt, next year is almost year. Johnny D
  13. My deductible is 500 on each. A body shop around southern Ontario won't lift the bay door for less than 500 bucks now. I charge 300 for a detail and wax on an average size vehicle. $500.00 for a 1/2 ton pickup. It takes a good 12 hours of labour. I'm told 4.5 litres of a good quality automotive paint goes for $300.00 or more
  14. Might as well put a zero on the end of-36, feels like -46C COMEON MAN!! I won't be braving -10 unless I have to leave the comforts of my place sometime in the future, last year anyway. No way, no how. But I'm told it's a dry cold!, Yea right. Like 101F is a dry heat in Arizona, it's too hot to breath.
  15. It became so bad at work it took 2 hours for pre job meetings, confined space protocols, remove all the gaurds, etc to make 1/2 a turn on a cable clamp that takes 30 seconds including locking it out on a speed switch for a tail pulley to get the conveyors running again. And we wonder why manufacturing is going to Mexico and Asia?
  16. Like Yogi Berra said about insurance " when ya got it ya don't need, and when ya need it ya don't got it.". Why people don't use it I have no idea, we pay 10's of thousands over the years and won't up the 500 deductible "in case" the premiums go up 5%. Rates do not increase for comp claims in Ontario, I am told it's the law up to X number of claims according to my agent that I ran into yesterday in town and he has never heard of $1000.00 deductible unless commercial or a mess of claims. I would check RC.
  17. Don't apologize, we don't need any snow, ice would be nice for all my fellow OFC'ers here that want to fish through it. You will wonder like Lew said how you ever drove without snow tires before.
  18. Last fall we copied the application for Boat registration on line from Service Canada. Had to take photos of the serial #s on the hull and engine as well as coloured pics of the boat. to prove the description of it. Showed those photos to our Lawyer and got an notarized affidavit from him confirming that. And sent it back after making copies, sent to New Brunswick if I remember. Received all the paper work in a week. Registered the trailer with On. MOT. They didn't ask for proof of anything and issued a new ownership and new plate.
  19. When they get their box at Home hardware here I'll grab you one Brian. If they are in soon I may be able to 'bring one with me to Hamilton. I'll grab a few.
  20. No problem Blizz. Send the invoice to Wormdunker and I'll work it out with him. Look forward to meeting you. Fly right into Munro Airport in the Hammer.
  21. Well that's 6 so far. Great.
  22. What are we going to do Dave? Do whatever we need to to survive. I love this country but it can make criminals out of law abiding, pay all our taxes on time, work 8 out of 10 holidays and drag your ass in there for 40 years, in my case only 33. 110F on the floor and 0 unloading frozen material on the High Docks. You had the same thing up in that crane. I hear medical benefits are covered in the pokey where some guys may just end up. There was a movie about a crew of geriatric wiseguys that rob a bank in Boca Raton. Please watch my walker while I rob this bank. I left very early with our Ironmaking 25 and out pensions, I had a crystal ball behind #3 stove at E Furnace. I told anyone that would listen the sky is falling and they called me Chicken Little in 2000. I thought I would only get a few years in before they went teats up, I was wrong. I can't even stand long enough to hand out carts at Wally World, I wish.
  23. I read a bit more about this case Chris and there are things that my investigative and sceptical side doesn't sit well. Some strange reaction from him after the fact. I think the guy might just march to a different drummer. Watching these reality shows about the Yukon and Alaska, and there are many, they all seem to have a different slant on life compared to us citiots. The guy had to be a trick shooter to ricochet a bullet off a tree and strike her .I don't understand a few things, she ran into her car when the bear chased her from the home, why did she leave the car? I certainly wouldn't know how I would react in a life or death situation when looking at a bear attacking me. Our training at the plant hopefully prepared us for most emergency situations, but a Grizzly attack I wouldn't be prepared for. He went to his vehicle then went into the house to get his rifle, that I understand. I watch these reality shows from the North West. I always see the folks carrying 44 Magnum side arms when venturing into bear and wolf country in Alaska, at least they carry a high velocity rifle, if they are smart. I was wondering what the law is in the Yukon. Apparently some prospectors and workers in the bush are allowed to carry side arms in areas in B.C. In the Yukon weapons do not have to be secured but must be unloaded and having the ammo nearby is permissible according to the RCMP website. I know if I lived and worked in Grizzly and Wolf country I would have at least a loaded 44 on my belt or my guide carrying a weapon. Better to be alive and beg forgiveness than a dead law abiding citizen. It certainly is tragic to say the least.
  24. Lemonade is just dandy Mr. Wormburner, just add 1.5 ounces of Dr. Smirnoff. I think I can handle 1. Can you make it that day I hope? After all we were planning a lunch after the New Year anyway. The lake is like glass today, same as yesterday. Saw a thread on 6-8 and a few guys took their boat out to Pottahawk yesterday. A bit chilling riding back into the offshore breeze. I'm sure someone is out on the lake somewhere catching your perch. I bet you are trying to decide to get that tinny on the water this week. I have a snowmobile suit that might fit a little tight you can borrow. edit: yep full blown oldtimers, you already said you can make it. You had better call me that morning to remind me and around noon that day won't hurt!
  25. 4 bucks a bottle isn't in the budget. I don't care if it tastes like Dom. And no I don't pay that for a beer anymore in a bar unless a special occasion like an OFC GTG.
