ADVICE on a good ice fishing reel...
kingofthesteelhead replied to Familyfisherman's topic in General Discussion
Bought a combo outfit at Canadian Tire for half price 2 years ago for around 29 dollars with an accucast reel model ACR104A and that has been the best icefishing reel I have ever had. What I do not like about MOST reels in the winter is when it gets cold the bail will not flip over which is very annoying. This reel has never done this! They have some combos this year again at Canadian Tire just waiting for them to come on sale again. -
Decided to go icefishing today but did not want to travel far.Went to an area about 25 minutes from home. Was not disappointed as I ended up with 14 decent perch and numerous small ones. All fish were caught on small plastic shad bodies and tiny jigs tipped with power maggots. Was fishing in 5-6 feet of water.

Not to infringe on this board, but you could check out fish-hawk.net which is an Ottawa area fishing board. There is some info on there.

What a fantastic day on the ice

Was going to go out today, but took one look at the snow early this morning and went back to bed, guess I am getting too old for this. Was out to that spot with Steve a few times this year and have had some awesome fishing for big perch. Cliff I will have to get Steve going on that camera thing, but I still wouldn't want his mug in the pictures LOL. -
Thanks Beans,Dad is well got him out panfishing about a dozen times this fall.He went icefishing this week with his friend and said he was tired,I guess I would be too he will be 91 next month.I will try to get him out somewhere that we don't have to walk far.He still comes over and helps me clean the perch or crappie when I get home from icefishing.

The water was fairly dirty the day I went out but was able to find a couple of spots holding fish.Should have gone out the nexy day,but Steve and I went after some Jumbos on Couchiching.

Perch photos or crappies will be next, maybe the next time we go out. I don't think I will put your mug in the shot though!I was looking at rich's post of perch and crappie with multiple pictures, those were awesome photos.Got to figure out how to download multiple photos!

Got out the other day and got 4 bows ranging from 2-4 lbs.Took a picture of the first one and finally have figured out how to download it onto to here. Hopefully many more pictures to come! These fish were caught 5 minutes from home in Durham region.

Like those Patriots but after last night don't count out those Saints,Drew Brees always seems to find a way to win!

I was with crappieperchunter and I have never seen a tag like that before with a 1 866 number. Years ago when they used to tag the rainbow at the Ganaraska fishway they used small yellow and then eventually clear tags which were attached through the dorsal fin with a small piece of fishing line and a number on it but not a phone number. This tag was not attached in a good area of the fish and there was a sore on the fish from it.It didn't look like a ministry tag unless they have changed them over the years.

Knew Italo long time ago when he had a tackle shop on Simcoe street in Oshawa and then went into the taxidermy business and moved it to Newcastle. He snubbed me at a weigh in at a bass tournament on Scugog and I lost all respect for the man. Some of the hijinks they have pulled on the show I am surprised they still have sponsors for the show. He looks awful thin as if something is wrong with him as he was always a bit on the heavy side.

my goodness, this is starting to sound like other message boards. A little touchy or what!Over and out.

watch the background guys,Steve you should know better!

Went with my wife and daughter to this show. Must have been close to you as my daughter also had her picture taken with Alice with the snake who was just a few rows in front of us.Alice was great as usual and Rob Zombie we don't really know his music but was impressed by the show and the guitar solo was one of the best I have seen. Going to Scorpions next and then Iron Maiden.Anybody going to these shows?

$1.99 Fishing Line at Bass Pro
kingofthesteelhead replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
bought two spools of 6 lb line and have been using it for panfish for 3 weeks now and no issues. No casting problems ,tangles or anything.Seems like good value for the money! -
Scugog,Pigeon,Chemong, just look for shallow bays. Sometimes early am is slow and it picks up as the day goes on. Was on them last weekend both days from late morning until we left.In the Kawarthas. At times it was doubleheaders and fish every cast.

Just finished getting the boat ready. Never been this early. Going crappie fishing with crappieperchunter on Saturday and maybe the wife on Friday if I can get her out of bed!

Took my dad out to Sibbald Point on Lake Simcoe today. He is 90 years old and still determined to get out on the ice once in a while. We caught lots of fish between 7-9 inches long with a few 10's mixed in. I'm sure he enjoyed his birthday as much as I did taking him out.It is tough getting him to leave as we were out from 830am until 230pm.Couldn't ask for a nicer day!

I was checking out this spot last Sunday and there were 6 vehicles on the ice.I saw one 5lb pike caught and a 13 inch jumbo.I won't divulge this spot as there are some very obvious landmarks in the background that would give this away!

I think the saints defence was a little underrated and came up with the big plays when needed.Drew Brees, what more can I say, move over Peyton Manning who gets flustered too easy.
