  1. Trib-Tary............... If your looking to fish the ice at the BOQ.you must speak to Glen at Cara Outdoor Sports............Sam's proStaff guide Glan is most knowledgeable and sam also has near 7,000 new minnows in stock in a much deleted market for the area, so he has pretty much got it all. The ph # there is: 613) 966-0020 Best of luck on your trip........ Ask Glen for what lures them eyes are hitting on currently too.............the guy is good.
  2. Hey there Dave............thanks for posting. I think we all pretty much got that info down pat. You meet so many folk and probably dont remember but my daughter (dont carried away, she's only 12) has a pic of You and Her on her bedroom wall from last years show.............and again from a seminar at basspro.....and again from the parking lot outside basspro in toronto..........you have autographed every photo she has so far.........including one with the Shimano Team and Yourself..baseball card style. You are a tremendous inspiration my friend........ I'm pretty much just a musky guy..but she is a believer in your own spinner bait (the white one)and bass fishing.......and active in the charity cause you represent on behalf of the so many including yourself personally. I really dont know if we can make it down to see you this year.or the show..............Then again, I dont know how I cant with my little girls wanting to add to her collection of pics of You an Her...........She is my regular ice fishing partner except when fishing Bass....she does it solo. If we cant make it down....I know you'll have a great show......we'll just have to catch you at Basspro in the spring is all....for sure we wont miss that. Not just a great personality....you represent a great cause Dave and it is listenned too! God Bless..............and Best of Luck. bNb......and 'LilBrick' Peter an Sara
  3. W-O-W...........Clive....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..and Gillian! Quivers down my backbone...... I got the shakes in my knee bone..... Gonna show this to the wife on Valentines Day........ She going to look at me and simply state....'What you thinking Lad..what you thinking' Yessirr.........Dont really know how to respond to this post at all...not at all. Clive an Gillian....if you folk ended up with never ending devoted love from this........then my hat goes off to you. Most likely you were made for each other...... Dont get me wrong here folks..Im not slamming you at all To each his own...and I believe in love Peter
  4. Scott, You are deffinitely the river trout MASTER my friend....the MASTER! I'm biding time right now trying to make this beer last a mite longer before I have to go out and quarter my new wood supply....Dang, it was just the day before yesterday I cut it to length. Think I'll only cut a 3day supply is all................these ears F-R-E-E-Z-E real quick. Keep up the great reports Scott....I think everyone loves 'em Bud!
  5. FinS........ Awesome trip indeed thar bud! Fishing with family........ Fishing with fellow OFC'rs...... Fishing with friends.........All awesome... some times the best fishing is done alone though.........no distractions, complete concentration.......having an extra is a neccessity at times(net man, boat navigator, safety in pairs etc...) What is it that M.Thorpe says...'Leave your smiles on shore'..and Lew once said...'Only thing I want to hear from a boat partner is...Get The Net' But fishing alone is one of my favs.... Fishing anytime is great.. Looking forward to your report... Be safe and best of luck to you. Peter
  6. Yeah..Yeah Gerritt. WTG Spiel.......I've been a reader of your provided news for some time now and truly enjoy the info it brings...... maybe I get it in my monthy newsletters from the various associations or publications but for sure I read it here first.at the very least...an explained version..coutesy, SPIEL thanks again Spiel........and good of you to bring it up Gerritt.

  8. Gerritt......Slow getting back to you Bud...But it was a great outing on the BOQ, only made even more better by spending it with fellow OFC'rs. It was great meeting all your Buds even the 'Bootless' ones and awesome to catch up with Adam an Sandy again.geeeze, those two are busy, good on them. We'll have to make this an annual I think. I had a good feeling you'all would get into fish when we moved the camp...sorry I had to leave..........Geeeeeze, had to leave to pickup some firewood..only heat we have at the homestead..turns out Buddy wasnt even there until today, Sunday....that really got my hair up. Forsure we couldve stayed a mite longer. Anyhoo, glad everyone got their BOQ catch........ Picked up my firewood this morning and its all chopped now for the stove.....dang near 2 -1/2 face cord.............Lemmeseeeee, 4-5 hrs and approx., 10-12 Bohemian Beer.not to shabby for a sunday. After last nights Leaf game.......and the firwood...I need a break so its off to work tommorrow, I hope. Gerritt....anytime Bud....anytime and we'll do it again.....got my number right? Wait till the summer comes and we'll troll/cast some 'ski's up here Bud! Take care, pete
  9. Right -On MistR Wait to you catch a big'in on your own lure...thats the payoff. Exellent baits. You may want to attempt less thread.....say, 3 wraps per hair, then head cement....... After many baits you'll find it much easier to work with that way plus a mite easier in appearance. I never did attend 'out2llunges', bait workshop, but know many that did and little tips as this go along way....................Jigger, now goes by the name 'northwood', also makes exellent bucktails. Keep up the good work, your colour selection is great. 'Lil tip........ When you get within an inch of the end of your tying......... Start planning on your finish wrap........ Generally, I'll tie at least 8 wraps towards the end and then work my finish back-up with all in all approx., 12 wraps to complete. My first lures used probably a spool per lure...........LOL The baits are far superior now but I get maybe almost 3 per spool........... Keep up the good work.
  10. Boring Post Bud............. Thanks for looking tho Bud..........Gerritt, I've PM'd you with all the info. I'll be comming alone unless my Bud (a NON OFC'r) can get his truck up an running and if Bil (B2kpto) changes his plans. Otherwise were good to go. Spent some time with Sam this morning from Cara in Belleville..........loads of info and favours just for your g2g gauranteed.......Call me on my cell, it will be local for you. Speak soon....... peter
  11. Hey there Paul..........Had no idea you were a truckdriver........forsure some other profession and now a recently retired muddywatah catfish pro. holdfast......... my lord man...yes , you understand big time. Larger then life when it comes to my own petty bief though!!!!!!! You too Verno............... like it was said... Its great to have employment....and you say you want a cheque too.....best be working for it Bud.................Best be working for it.!!!!!!!!!!!1
  12. Of the 34yrs Ive been a bricklayer, almost 20 of them yrs I was a company owner. Come winter when the sub zero weather came and its high winds the jobs would be winterized by us for our own good.....Todays bricklayers pay someone else big bucks to tarp in their projects and supply heat. But not turn it on. I would arrive at 4am religiously to turn on the heat for work under the tarps and more importantly under a temporary shelter that covered the sand and cements w/mixer...then leave for breakfeast to return at about 7am ready for mixing mortar......Today, they first arrive at 7:30am and apply a tiger torch or 2 to the sand and water and everyone retreats to their vehicles for warmth until about 10am to inspect the results of their efforts in heating. Well, I live a mite further from work now but have still made the drive every morning, waited til 10am...and then be instructed that it is too cold for the mortar......... No freaking kidding, we've had some serious wind chill and temps.......... I ask the guy, why do you pay the big bucks for all this winterization and dont even work, (something I used to do myself)....His reply.....What?....You want me to come in at 6am or something? Net result........Employees have no hours, hence no pay The project, (in the case residential) is seriously delayed........????????? new homeowners now delayed. It is not a rare thing, I have found this to be a common situation now-a-days. There was a time we'd shut down for the winter for the many reasons and just pound 'er for 9 1/2 months a year. Summer Strikes in the early '80's changed all that and made winters the most worked where most projects were paint ready come the spring. The builder has time frames to work within for the new homeowners......these time frames are not enforced upon the subcontractor at all come winter. I dunno.........????????????????? This bricklayer isnt spending $30 a day anymore in gas for my truck to just be told to go home.......So Im just not going in plainNsimple...Ill await the call when ready. I could be out icefishing or at least shovelling my driveway better or making our ice shoot a little higher and longer. The kids an I have shovelled the lawn as well as driveway into a huge mound that Ive hosed down at night...we've cut a luge type thing into this mound for the kids to have a blast on...they actually travel quite quickly on their snow sleds and boards. Anyone else have an employment that has been changed with the newer practises? (I've already offered my services to come in at 4am as I have relayed this little story to my employer too...Cheap I might add, for my gas alone) I also tried to educate him to a scenario of how great he would look to the builder toughing it out for completion on time)....Homeowners gripe about their homes being built in the winter, when its cold like this it is good...its the spring or rainy weather that does the most damge. Thats my rant for the day.....most likely the rest of the winter....... Broke....but still alive to carp about it. Peter
  13. OK Gerritt, I'll be comming for sure. I'll meet up with you folk in Beleville for the minnow purchase gathering before we head out. I'm off work most likely the rest of the week due to the weather so today Im going to head down to the BOQ and have a looksee and then over to Skevy's and most likely Cara as well....hopefully I'll run into a few of their ice informers and see what exactly the eye's are biting on. Im hoping to be bringing the family out with me.....I dunno, w/out a hut the wife will be if'y, My stepdaughter, (Lil'Brick) will be a foresure anyway. Peter
  14. Im curious as to what kind of fight the 'ski put up...or was it a mite docile? Did you hand line 'er.... Awesome find through the ice....a successful day 2Bsure.
  15. Normally I dont say H-Anniversary to anyone but my Charmaine....and my folks! But to you 2.......Both Great folk Happy Anniversary from both of us.
  16. Enjoy your V-day gift......most likely you earned it by the many things that couples do for each other over the years of their relationship. Only thing I would add to that would be some sort of surprise awaiting my bride when we arrive at the hut......... Lemmeseeeee........ An aquavu maybe for the fishergirl in your life? Or, a real memorable romantic setting..........watch the amount of candles, you dont want to keep opening the door for oxygen. I HOPE YOU GUYS HIT TONS OF FISH...........and that the operator will move you if your not on the bite. (Should ask the operator this beforehand) I never rent a hut unless my wife is comming and Ive always brought my cell to stay in touch with the operator if theres no bite...............Then again, it is valentines night for you lucky folk so will it truly matter!!!!!!!!!
  17. I spoke with Ron via telephone just after 6pm tonight.Wed. ....told that Desoronto lost quite a bit of ice due to the snow of late and they lost several inches of ice. ( the snow blankets the ice..end result is melt/shringage) Ron also told me of a few hot spots he has of his own but that was as far as the whereabouts were discussed........maybe another time Ron. Apparently the mouth of the Trent........On the BOQ 1/2 mile out from the mouth of the Trent River they are slamming them.....many fish but of no great size. Fish were caught on small spoons and chubby darters...........w/minnows as backup. This location is HWY 401 east...2nd exit just after the roadside macdonalds is , HWY 33 south into Trenton and on the east side of the river mouth there is FREE parking w/access to shore. There are no huts available period....... except 50/50 in Picton where it was reported to be poor ice. Ron told me that he is looking at an additional 3man hut tommorrow for purchase..if he likes , he buys and first caller to skevy's has first time slot if available at all. What ya think Gerritt????? I couldnt reach Sam..but I know he took on that rifle course(teaching of)...on the weekend.
  18. Hey Bri..guy, Just like Smokey said.......speak w/Ron or Sam to get up todate news. I will be speaking wqith both this evening and if they dont post about it...Desoronto or elswhere I will post on Gerritts thread for the g2g Sat. whats up right now and where they are being productive.
  19. Mike the Pike.........believe Gerrit said his brother has a NO FAIL spot out of Desoronto Gerritt I'll call both the outfitters that I do know this evening and see what they think about where is producing well at this time. Desoronto.......Ive only fished there myself in the spring.....but if Corey knows a place...Im cool with that. I do know that in Trenton at the mouth of the BOQ....there were a good 30 huts there this past weekend only about 1/2 mile off shore. I'll see if I have time to get a pic of the huts after work today....... I ll get back later tonight with the outfitters news.
  20. Thought you were on the water already Eddyk........Oh well Sounds like your new place is going to be close to many lakes tho..... A fisherman's dream Bud..... Good Luck with getting your house sold...at a little profit would be nice too!
  21. Hey Gerritt, If it's less then -10c - I'll be working.....if not, I'd love to join in with you folk. Let me know where you'd be leaving out of Desoronto and approx. time. I live in Quinte West so I dont imagine Ill be picking anyone up, however if anyone from the Stirling or Trenton areas want to hook up as well I'm game. For Huts......Give Sam a call at .....'Cara Outdoors' or......................Ron at.................'Skevy's' both in Belleville, if anyone knows about huts availability it would be them. Im considering putting together Clampetts 'Not a Kite' thingamabob!!!!!!! This sounds like its going to be a blast folks.
  22. ..........try Gagnon's in Oshawa. When they re-opened after the fire they added a section for just this type of merchandise. I thought I bought all the black they had but on visiting the next week they had restocked. Normally I order by bulk from RealPro.............But required the boo that day for an order. The prices are comparable for small orders.......
  23. Many thanks folks folks for the replies...I'm going to get what I have so far, info wise to my Dad and see what he thinks. I really appreciate this.
  24. Had a lengthy discussion with my father last night...mostly about his boat and what it needs to get it back in the water. After he had his stroke about 4 years ago, the engine has never been run and now - will not. They were about 300 miles off the KeyWest coast when this happened and the boat was towed in. I am going to assume it is filled with sea water that has settled into all the parts..... Does anyone have or know of anyone with Marine Diesel Knowledge????????????? it is a Perkin's PrimaM50...........4cylinder Diesel It now sits in drydock at the Whitby Marina.......and we're thinking of pulling the moter out and putting it into a small workshop locally. Any information would be greatly appreciated...... peter
  25. NASTY We drive that route everyday from north of Trenton to Ajax/Pickering area and Charmaine an I were on our ways back home at about 3:30pm. I had an alternate route planned trying highway #9 but a friend called telling me it was bumper to bumper for miles so we attempted the 115/35 north to Peterboro, then eastalong 7 to Marmora which we could turn south on to home.......it would have taken us about 3 hours.....got as far as Orono and it was whiteout cons. Gave the folks a call and they let us stay with them last night in Pickering..........just wasnt worth the chance on those roads..folks were still driving like maniacs...I wasnt worried about my driving, just getting hit by an idiot driving to fast. Last saturday.I was hit from behind at Oshawa sending my truck into the ditch by another driver who didnt/couldnt stop...just gunned it and made it back onto the shoulder of the road from out of the ditch. Geeeeze, no steering...........tore out all my under carriage. New rack, arms and springs and 2 universal joints. $2600 and I just got the truck back the day before yesterday. Yesterday afternoon and night marks the first time the twins (12yrs old), psent the night without either parent........the fridge was full and they had heat and their playstations.....I know they did OK. People , when are they going to learn to slow it down in this weather. Well, going to have one of mom's breakfeasts...head o out to work and hopefully the highway reopens by early afternnon..........I hear he east bound lanes will be closed until at least noon today. Take special care out there folks......special.
