  1. Thats what I was hoping to hear! Thanks for the replies
  2. Anyone have a look at Erie today? (Crystal beach-FT Erie area) Wondering if the rain has caused it to be real murky, or if its just a bit cloudy. I am planning on a good day tomorrow, and want to know what to prep for. BTW ill be in the hunt for more smalljaw bass Thanks Tight lines. Luke
  3. I just hook them through the body. Add a little wheight. and give it a slight cast. Dont whip it out there, as they dont really have any "meat" to hold tight on the hook. You can fish it all the ways u described. I prefer to let it sit on the bottom. They dont last long when the fish are around Tight lines!
  4. Is there anychance you found a map of where the fire is and where it is headed? My parents are in AP right now and and pretty close to that. My cousins are staying in radiant lake this week aswell. I have no way to contact them either EDIT: Further investigation shows me they should be fine. About 40km from where they are staying. Thanks for the link tho
  5. I just put the Lowrance Mark5x on my boat this spring. Not a bad little unit. You can run it in a basic AUTO mode, it sets all the parameters for you, or you can choose an advanced set up. Which allows you to set all of its parameters. I have found that its really good at finding the depths of the lake, but its hard to distinguish schoals and structure from weeds and sand bars etc. But all being said, for less than 200 taxes in, you cant really beat it. My 0.02 Luke
  6. Mine has to be a guy from 2008. Fishing on simcoe just past the Gannon narrows during the perch festival. Was early morning just after dawn, could barely see anything 10 feet infront of you due to the fog coming off the water. All we can here is a screaming engine full throttle going past us. Never did see the boat. Thankfully we never heard him hit anyone.
  7. Grant lives right around the corner from me. He is a great guy to deal with!
  8. found these http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56503&st=0&p=616556&hl=Imported&fromsearch=1&&do=findComment&comment=616556 http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57558&hl=importing&st=0
  9. That is one beast of a laker! Congrats!
  10. Agreed and well said. I have fished from a few bass boats and they definately serve their purpose and do so very well. This has nothing to do with the style or type of boat. It has everything to do with the operator of the boat. I have been cut off/swamped by more 20-30 foot cruisers and jet skis than I have by bass boats. The worst are the 's who have the 40-50 foot house boats and think they own the water becasue they have been blesses with money. I find that anglers have more respect for others on the water than anyone else. Its those who operate the pleasure crafts I find are the worst. I live in an area where the water is very busy with all types of boaters. I see many things every time I go out that I would deam idiotic. For instance, having a jetski follow and ride your wake, cutting close behind your boat then switching to the other side. It annoys me to the point that I will stop wait for them to go past or find someone else to follow, then I will continue where I was headed. Best thing you can do on the water is look out for yourself. Be aware of your surroundings. Keep your head up, sure you want to focus on fishing but be mindful of the others out there and keep yourself safe. When im on the water I am always looking for situations that can get ugly, large wakes, people coming to close, idiots on jet skis buzzing by. The last thing I want is to have a bad day where it can be avoided. The pleaasure operators card is a joke. You can retake until you pass, do it online and most people will have someone else write it for them. Im all honesty, I think it should be more like getting your drivers license. Take the test, and get your begginers, ride with someone experienced. Then take some training, and get familiar will all types of watercraft. Then write a final test, along with an on the water test where knowledge and skill must be used. Then the operator card will be issued to said person. Yes it might seem rediculous, but lots of people die each year because of idiots on the water. Would this stop all of the deaths, certainly not but it would reduce the numbers.
  11. I am running 20lb power pro. And i just re spooled the reel. Im think that it was just a bad split ring. Seems like ill be getting some new ones, and spending the afternoon changing out most of them:whistling:
  12. I just looked at their website. They seem to have some very nice stuff. Thanks for the tip!
  13. Was fishing on Erie as I do every weekend. Throwing cranks. Specifically a Clanking rap in Perch Pulled it out of the package brand new. Inspected the hooks, all seemed good. Throw the bait 4-5 times, landed a smallie around 1.5 pounds. Keep throwing it. Get a good 4 pounder on, get it near the boat to net it. As i reach for the net (was by myself) it jumps and comes off. No biggy I thought. Until I noticed my rear trebble was missing. Then on closer inspection the hook ring was missing too. Anyone have this happen to them? I have been using similar style cranks for a few years. Never seen this happen before. What hook rings do you use? Thanks, Tight Lines Luke
  14. Glad to hear they are ok! Somewhat of a similar situation happened to me and my dad. Out on Erie for some smallies in 2009 on opener weekend. Calm in the morning and then it became kind of choppy. We decided to call her a day. (maybe 1 to 1 1/2 mile off shore). Were in a 14ft deep v tinny with an older (89) 20hp Johnson. Dad goes to pull the motor and she wont fire. Take the cover off and see a 30 cent clip had broken that engages the flywheel. Motors not going to run. We did not have a trolling motor at the time, all we had were two paddles. No one else was around that we would see. We didnt think we were in too much danger. Dad says will float to shore, use someones phone and get ourselves back to the launch. Well within 15 minutes of drifiting it was rolling a good 3 foot swell. We used the paddles to keep to the bow pointed into the waves best we could and road it out. The pildge pump ran non stop and kept the boat afloat. Once we hit the beach, there was no stopping the waves from crashing over and swamping our boat. The motor was fillied with sand and ultimately was its dimise. No, we never capsized, but it was a real awakening. We had our lifejackets on the entire time. Thankfully where we landed, they gave us a ride, picked up our truck and trailer, he used his tractor to pull out boat onto the trailer. After a really big thankyou we were safely on shore. I launch the same boat on Erie once a week in the summer, everytime i hit the water i think back to that day. Could have been alot worse. You can never be to causious when out on the water. Stay safe everyone! Luke
  15. WOW! Very impressive! Good shooting!
  16. to charge my deep cycle for my trolling motor, i use a regular charger from crappy tire. Set it on trickle charge (2 amps). I usually charge up my battery for 3-4 hrs before heading out with the boat. In the spring i charge it for 7-10 hrs then maintain it all summer. Mine will hold a charge of 12.5 volts and run the trolling motor for 5-6 hrs. I have a single battery set up, and have been using this battery for 5 years now. hope this helps Luke

    Garbage

Jer, That makes me sick to think people would acutally leave a place like that. Imagine what their house must look like. Total :asshat: 's

    Garbage

i see this all the time at our local launch. People seem to think that becasue they pay to launch means they can leave behind their garbage. This really isnt ok. However there should be garbage cans placed in public places like the launch. This launch seems to be missing the garbage can everytime im there. Still not having a garbage can does not give anyone an excuse to litter. I actually caught my buddy doing this last weekend. Had him out on the boat after we came back in he had some garabge (worm container, bottle of water etc) and he just threw it under my truck after we packed up. I wouldnt leave till he picked up the garbage. I told him to throw it in my truck and I would get rid of it at home. (however i was not so polite to him) Bottom line is people are ignorant, and my generation does not give a rats ass about anything. They think they own the world and that everything relvolves around them. Sometimes I'd like to give some people a smack, and tell them to have some respect. But that won't end well im sure. Ways to improve: I always carry a garbage bag, plactic bag with me in my truck. If you see some garabage around pick it up, find a public garbage can and dispose of it. Rant over. Luke
  19. To tell you the truth, I dont actually fish for muskie down on the lower, the numbers seem to be low, so I have never tried. The upper river has better numbers but getting them from shore will be tough. If you want to summer fish, bass and eyes along with pan fish can be caught from shore, in the spots i mentioned above. Fall will be different I think this year as its already so warm, surface water temp is 74f as of yesterday. So who knows what the fall will bring. You just never know until you try. Tight lines, Luke
  20. There are some spots on the canadian side to fish from shore on the lower river. None of these are real secrets at all. You can fish the whirlpool, queenston boat launch, there are a few spots u can stop at along the parkway and walk down to a beach like area. (have to do some searching on those is see them on the water all the time, can never really find the spot to hike down) In old town if you do some walking along the shore there are spots to fish. Avoid the yaught club, they dont like anyone near there precious boats If you spend an afternoon searching and drivin around there are likely a dozen spots to shore fish the lower river. Get out there and get you line wet!
  21. Was out yesterday and had the same experience on the lower river. Im in a 14 footer Deep V. there were lots of 20-30 foot cruisers running up and down the river. They come within 20 feet of your boat and dont care at all. Thankfully the trolling motor was down to steer the bow into the wake. Otherwise it would have been messy.
  22. I have to agree with those who have posted before me. Canoe is out of the question. I spend 3-4 nights a week on the lower river, and i wouldnt ever try it in a canoe. Also, I have never heard of anyone renting boats on the river, or near the river on either Lake O or Lake Erie
  23. Thanks to all that have welcomed me. I look forward to added my reports and fishing adventures for everyone to see. I love reading everyones reports too!
  24. right now i am using something similar to these along both sides of the boat (14ft starcraft)
