  1. Wow I don't feel so bad after reading the replies here! I am fortunate that I have something to keep me busy all four seaons, I snowmobile an average of 3 to 4,000 km's per winter, ice fish after work through the week, ATV around 2,000 km's every fall in Quebec, and fish in the spring/summer. I used to have to find ways to pass the time before fishing opens but now getting the boats and gear ready, it is here before I know it. Still get excited like I did 20 years ago for the opener!
  2. I tow my 18.5 foot Stratos (approximately 3,200 pounds) with a 2012 F150 XTR SuperCrew with the new 5.0L V8. You can't tell the boat is behind you! The truck is still pretty new (5,200 km's), and so far I am getting a combined 60% highway 40% in town mileage of 24 - 25 mpg Canadian. I'm told the mileage will get even better as I get closer to 10,000 km's with this engine. Rides way better than my previous 2006 Ford Escape.
  3. G'day to a fellow fisherman from the Valley!
  4. I've been a long-time lurker, a member for a little while, but what the heck, I will take this opportunity for an introduction. I'm Shayne, I live in between Pembroke and Petawawa, Ontario, on the Ottawa River. I fish the river in winter and spring for walleye, occasionally in Quebec for trout, but spend most of my time in the summer on the less travelled lakes in the area, including Lake Clear (my favorite), Lake Dore and Constant Lake. Once the fall comes and the loonies and (over)enforcement have vacated the river, I am back on the Ottawa for the fall run of walleye. I have a 2010 Stratos 285XL DC with a 150HO ETEC Evinrude, and a 2006 Sylvan Sea Snapper with a Johnson 15hp that stays in the water in front of my place for quick fishing trips out on the river. Great site, I have learned lots over the last few years!
  5. There is no finer place to take her than Lake Clear! Heaven on earth!!
  6. That, unfortunately, is what appears to be occuring.
  7. Well, lets try this another way...in order to try and answer the OP's question without again enduring the wrath of Art, but in my area, the upper Ottawa Valley, neither catch limits, possession limits nor size limits can be enforced anywhere against those claiming to have a status card. This is from the OPP and the MNR who jointly checked my boat opening morning this year and last year on the Ottawa River. 'Nuff said.
  8. Man there are some good-looking dishes and ideas here! Making me hungry! Here is another vote for beer-batter using Aunt Jemima's buttermilk pancake batter mix, of course substitute Molson for milk, eggs, seasoning salt and lemon juice. Make it fairly thin, dip the fillets in flour and then into the batter and in the skillet. I am going to try the bacon-wrapped fillets, either on the grill or in the fryer (or maybe both!)
  9. Congratulations! She sure has been well cared for!
  10. Walleye aren't hitting well, lookin' forward to bass season!
