  1. victor i guess its just the angle the pics are taken. as for stability it was alright. the water was flat as glass so it wasnt a real fair test. i hope to get it out on the water again later this week.. i'll letcha know
  2. no no no...the pics make it look bigger it's only a 12 footer, with a 65 johnson seahorse 9.5hp on back
  3. i know once i got up into the creek i was kicking myself for not bringing the rods along saw some BIIIIIIIIG carp up in there congrats on your boat too! i cant wait for the opportunities it opens up even if its nothing big and fancy !
  4. with the information i got from folks here regarding fuel/oil mix for my motor, i fueled up, mixed some oil.... after many MANY pulls, i realized i wasnt getting fuel through the carb. pulled it off, quick cleaning and back together and it starts up on the first pull. couple of minor tweaks and i got it running right (it was stalling out at low engine speeds). well today i got it out for its maiden voyage. i've never launched a boat before so i was a little worried about being one of "those guys" at the launch. putting the boat in went smootly, fired it up and headed out for a bit of a run. the motor ran smoothly at WOT with no hiccups or stumbling and went right down to trolling speeds and ran well, still have a bit more tuning to do with that as i get the odd stumble there, like it wants to stall out. getting back to the launch it took me 2 or 3 tries to get the trailer straight and lined up properly to get the boat out but i eventually got it (this is why i chose 5:00 on a monday for my first try at launching) all in all it was a good trip, i didnt sink, and i didnt have to paddle back. so all's well heres a pic or two of the boat as it is now... i have a few improvements to do still, along with wiring and mounting the fishfinder properly and such. Thanks again to everyone who helped Ryan
  5. storms seem to have hit oakville in the last say....10 minutes, hearin a good amount of thunder hope everyone's stayin safe
  6. thanks guys i pulled the lower unit drain plug last night just to check for water, and more than i'd like to see came out before i saw any oil, so it looks like im gonna be looking for some seals in the near future. I worked at a marine shop for a few months (a few yrs back before i realized that the car trade is the one for me) so i've done a few of the seals, gonna tackle that at home or at the shop next week. i was told the fluid was replaced last spring, along with plugs/tuneup and a carb cleaning (i assume the guy just ran some cleaner through it) gonna get her running today over at my parents place so i can see how it runs and what parts i should start hunting for. ive been told that these are considered vintage so some parts are hard to come by. I was told the impeller was done last spring as well, how long do those last, it wasnt run alot last yr after the work...is it something done anually. other than that, im looking at lower unit seals and a carb kit. anyone have parts leads? thanks alot again, ryan p.s. i cant WAIT to get out on the water and off of shore!
  7. yeah, according to the buddy i bought it off of, it stalls out at slow speed and while trolling. i figured it needs some idle and mixture adjustments. i just got it home tonight and am gonna take a stab at it tomorrow...just wanted to figure the mix out for when i fill up the tank tomorrow... keep the tips coming
  8. hrm, thanks for the replies...i've asked a few buddies and including the answers i got here I've been told anything from 30-50:1 gonna try 40:1 and see how it runs, after the first tank i'll pull a plug and see if its fouled at all and go from there thanks for the replies
  9. hey I have an older johnson (1965 I believe) 9.5hp outboard, as the topic states. I picked it up off a buddy of mine, and I dont have a manual or anything. I'm wondering what ratio I should mix the oil/gas. This is my first motor and boat so I'm pretty clueless... HELLLP ryan
  10. nice job, you really have that water dialed in dont you? still quite havent figured it out myself... havent had the canoe up there yet, just been shorebound
  11. A buddy of mine and myself decided to enter the Belwood Lion's Club pike derby this weekend. We left the burlington area saturday at around 10:30am after I put in a few hrs at the shop. Got to the lake, got registered and launched and set up by about 12:30. With the winds boat control was a little difficult so we looked for some bays where the waters were a little calmer. We chucked just about every lure in both of our boxes with no luck. spinnerbaits, inline spinners, spoons, xraps, husky jerks...whatever we could think of. Tried trolling spoons and crankbaits when we moved between spots and didnt have any luck...not even a follow. About 5-6hrs into our day, we pulled up on a small sheletered area that we had been at earlier in the day (with no luck of course). I put on a gold coloured williams wobbler, tossed it into the flooded trees near shore and finally, a strike.... bring the fish in and it was a WHOPPING 12" long..... if that. turns out that it's the only fish we saw that day. when we got back to the lions club hall, the big fish for the day was 34". All in all it was a fun day out on the water, and my buddy had a chance to get his boat wet for the first real day out fishing since he bought it at the boat show. wish we could've gotten into some bigger numbers (and size) Ryan
  12. second metal supermarkets...seem to have anything i need whenever i go there
  13. im still wandering around bronte chucking spoons and inline spinners looking for some pike. still no luck...anyone wanna tell me im wasting time? or should i keep on truckin lookin for some pike down there if theres none there, anywhere close hold them?
  14. the belwood derby is next saturday and sunday. bpsbassman from the board here was mentioning that there was a toonie tournament there, believe it was today, from 7am -3pm hope it helps ryan
  15. nice job! you really have that water figured out dontya? i plan on getting up there tomorrow afternoon for a bit, i'll be shorebound though ryan
  16. looks like me and a buddy of mine may be going to enter. never been in an event like this before, hope to see others out there ryan
  17. Probably the Grand in Dunnville or long point bay. we'll see where the van stops
  18. i was there monday afternoon as well, from about 430-630 or so, casting from the shore by the dam with no luck. must have seen you two out there, werent many others on the water, nice catches!
  19. worked at the shop this morning from 730 - 1200 helped some friends move after that just home now to shower/change before i go and work my 2nd job from 5 until 9 good thing i plan on getting rid of the delivery job...or i'd never get out! (i made that mistake last summer) ryan
  20. i think it's a little late for that, saw a couple guys out there yesterday but didnt see anything caught not quite sure...never fished trout. i am looking for a carp spot around there, never targetted or caught one, hear they're alot of fun
  21. great read peter am i wrong in thinking that you are or were on the TOWARF crew? i thouhght i read that in a previous post. if thats true, thank you... and all the people on that crew. i have never needed the assistance they provide, but many do, and not many step up. i see the boat in and out of the harbour alot during the summer, as i live in bronte as well and spend alot of time out on the pier, fishing, reading, or just sitting out there enjoying the sounds and sights of the harbour (its unfortunate its changing so much) i, as well, am just drawn to the water it seems great read again... good going ryan
  22. im in bronte as well...soon to be downtown burlington right near the lake (scored a sweet apt there) i was down under the lakeshore bridge today just to wet the line and try out my new baitcast setup...darned birdsnests!..oh yeah, back on topic i was thinking of trying the marsh there for carp this yr, seems like ideal habitat (i know for a fact they're in there actually) according to the regs, theres no longer a sanctuary from lakeshore to the old bridge at rebecca, but there is still no fishing signs up, dunno if they just havent been removed. i tried calling the aurora office of the mnr (was REAL suprised to find out that it's my "local" office) but couldnt get a straight answer. i'd be down for some fishing with anyone in the area occasionally too. dont have a ton of fishing experience, but know the area quite well. especially where to go for wings and a cold one when we're done pm if anyones down ryan
  23. i'm guess that's a mepps (not Mepps) made lure? do you make and sell those ?
  24. nice, thanks for all the replies looks like i'll be heading out for some white spinnerbaits and some landing/handling stuff. i do have 30lb, 12" wire leaders, will these be heavy enough, or should i move to some heavier wire, or some fluoro leaders? we'll be on the houseboat the 3rd week of june (leaving the area on the bass opener...next yr the ladies wont be setting the dates) hope we can get into some fish! thanks again ryan
