  1. Hire a guide and go catch baby tarpon. If you hunt around on Google you'll find there are loads of guides in Miami, all of them supply the gear, some will even pick you up at your hotel and drop you off at the end of the day. It's not cheap, but you've got almost a year to squirrel away the Pesos ... put a few bucks aside every week and it's easy to save up enough. A day of baby tarpon fishing is by far the best bang for the buck in south Florida. "Baby" tarpon generally run from 10 to 30 pounds, you get them in numbers close by the marinas (so no long, long rides out to the spots), and they fight like crazy. Imagine catching a whole bunch of adult chinooks by casting swim baits on a bass rod, big difference being the tarpon don't just run, they also jump like they've got a butt full of TNT. Forget about going for big tarpon, it's too much work for a 13 year-old. Tell the guide you're more interested in numbers and they'll fix you right up. You'll also probably catch some bonus redfish and snook too, so it's a great experience that you and your lad will remember for the rest of your lives.

  2. Hi All, we finally pulled the trigger and got Starlink internet, WOW, what a difference from our existing, or shalll i say practically non-existent service from Bell. This means i can finally upload videos from home instead of having to sneak into walmart and use theirs. I have a huge backlog of videos to edit and can now finally just plug away at home and upload at my leisure. I started with the first file in my bunch which happened to be from last May at around walleye opener time. A chilled half hour with my puppy and faithful friend Roloff, paradise!

  3. Don't cheap out with lithium...make sure they have BMS (Battery Management System) built in...this circuitry will prevent overheating and overcharging. Also use a dedicated charger specifically rated for lithium use. Once charged, promptly unplug from the charger. Saw these photos online the other day. Apparently charging lithium batteries on the boat in the garage...

  4. Absolutely a game changer, I’m so glad I held out, all the other providers were sketchy and expensive. I’m getting speeds of up to 200Mbps so far, it fluctuates but the slowest so far has been around 55Mbps….it’s like a whole new universe of possibilities when compared to our old service… see below What we had…… and what it’s like now…….

  5. Biscayne Bay (downtown Miami) has good inshore fishing for a number of species. I spent a day fishing there 15 years ago on a corporate "golf and fish" slush event...we fished with a guide on a small centre console flats boat (all equipment supplied). Did well with Redfish, Jacks, and Bonefish. Don't remember the name of the outfit, but there were quite a few operating out of the marina.

  6. So I don't usually take pictures of my food, because my wife thinks it is highly aberrant behaviour. I catch enough flak for other stuff that I don't need to add to the topics where my behaviour is found wanting. BUT! If she is not around, I can take some pics. Tonight it was DUCK BALLS!!! with sweet Thai chili sauce on acini de pepe pasta, very toothsome even if I say so myself. That black spot on the parchment paper is evidence of quality control before the sauce got added. 😉 The duck balls are meatballs of course. I had made some country style (caseless) Italian sausage with duck meat, and had one package left, so I did it as meatballs. Doug
