  1. This spring, I added a Weber 36" FlatTop Griddle to my deck....don't know how I got by without one before. Great for smash burgers or Philly CheeseSteaks, and I can fry 2 dozen eggs or pancakes at once (with room for bacon and home fries) to feed the whole crew. What I didn't know is how great it is for fish...seared Salmon or "blackened" Lingcod (and Walleye) as I posted above. Best of all....clean up is effortless...just scrape it clean.

  2. Good times! I had a black rockfish fillet and two small copper rockfish fillets a couple nights ago, tasty enough but I prefer perch! Doug

  3. On my trip to Rivers Inlet with Doug (aka Shag) and a couple of other buddies in June, besides fishing for Salmon and Halibut, we also spent a little time chasing "Rock Fish"...assorted species that live in the shallower tidal water. One my favourite eating fish of all time is Lingcod. Although we didn't get many "Bucketheads", we still managed to hook a couple of small ones. I defrosted a couple of fillets yesterday and did them Cajun style using "K-Paul's Blackened Redfish Magic". Served with green beans and a new potato salad....all veggies from my garden... Reaffirmed my belief about Lingcod...yum...one of the tastiest fish that swims..

  4. I've discovered that (like a lot of things) you can never have a big enough deck. When we re-built the deck this spring, we doubled the size. However, it's still too small. My wife and I both agreed we wanted a big table to feed the kids and grandkids, but she also wanted a lounge area. I personally would've preferred to move up some more of the "culinary equipment". After 41 years of marriage, I've learned the art of compromise...so I still have to go up and down a flight stairs to get to the patio and the Komodo Charcoal Grill, Traeger Smoker, and wood-fired pizza oven. Oh well....life is good !

  5. Good thing you have a big deck and lots of space!!! I have to fight with a small table and two chairs just to get to my BBQ! 😮 Doug

  6. I agree, the "regular" Rockfish we caught have been "OK"....and it's hard to compare anything with Yellow Perch...but the Lingcod and the Kelp Greenling are in a class of their own.

  7. About a month ago I came across a tune that really grabbed my attention with the excellent sax and lead guitar playing. Candy Dulfer is absolutely the best female sax player in the world and one of the best period. She has performed and recorded with her dad Hans, Prince, Dave Stewart, Van Morrison, Angie Stone, Maceo Parker and Rick Braun and has performed live with Alan Parsons (1995), Pink Floyd (1990), and Tower of Power (2014). She is Dutch and all the musicians that play with her are top notch with Ulco Bed really standing out on guitar. Here's one sample of one of her big hits called Lily was Here that's preformed with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and another tune called Lost and Gone that features Ulco Bed. They play great Soul, Funk and some Jazz with some great covers of many tunes like Pick up the Pieces from Average White Band. I'm at the point now where I'm listening to at least 10 hours of this great music a week. Enjoy these tunes.

  8. I spent a little time fishing Georgian Bay this year. Got up to Shooting Star Camp on the Spanish River. Rustic place and a bit of a hike to get to but beautiful, buggy and fishy. Lots of smallmouth and pike, topping out at 36 and 38" Not Ontario, but my Dad and I enjoyed our third fly in together to Northern Manitoba. Lodge owner wants to keep this lake quiet for now so I can't say where. But it was a float plane ride away from the lodge. I probably won't see another day of fishing like it. 10 trophy pike in the boat (over 41") including a double header for me and my Dad. I topped out at 47" and 48.75" All caught on a Len Thompson #4. Keep it Canadian, eh? Truly amazing. I asked this board for tips on a flyout many years ago. I don't post much any more but read all your reports and am grateful for the entertainment when I'm too busy to get out there. Now that work has settled down I hope to get back into the swing of things.
