  1. I spent a little time fishing Georgian Bay this year. Got up to Shooting Star Camp on the Spanish River. Rustic place and a bit of a hike to get to but beautiful, buggy and fishy. Lots of smallmouth and pike, topping out at 36 and 38" Not Ontario, but my Dad and I enjoyed our third fly in together to Northern Manitoba. Lodge owner wants to keep this lake quiet for now so I can't say where. But it was a float plane ride away from the lodge. I probably won't see another day of fishing like it. 10 trophy pike in the boat (over 41") including a double header for me and my Dad. I topped out at 47" and 48.75" All caught on a Len Thompson #4. Keep it Canadian, eh? Truly amazing. I asked this board for tips on a flyout many years ago. I don't post much any more but read all your reports and am grateful for the entertainment when I'm too busy to get out there. Now that work has settled down I hope to get back into the swing of things.

  2. My brother knows a biologist that works Lake Erie. They have had 5 explosive year classes in a row. Each year doubling the previous years output. Surveys suggest that there are 88 million pickereyes in Lake Erie. There will be pickereyes for many years to come! HH

  3. We fished Nanticoke Friday evening and got a quick limit jigging paddle tails and blade baits. It's crazy the amount of fish out there, schools of 6-8 fish would come through every few mins. Just amazing to see on livescope. It was too nice to head in so we trolled for a bit at high speed and got a bonus steelhead

  4. When working at Long Point back in the 70's we would surf cast for channels , 9 foot heavy spinning gear and pyramid sinkers, on the Lake Erie side of Hastings Ave. in the evening . Hope the statute of limtations has run out as one of the guys brother was a commericail fisherman and he would take them at 30 cents a pound, often over a 100 pounds on a good night, best I caught was 17 1/2 pounds. Good times with a beach fire, lawn chairs, sand spike rod holder and the clip on bell bite indicator

  5. My buddy Rob from Cleardrift, sent me his new salmon embryo poured soft beads and I put my twist tie to them . This IMO ,is the best alternative to keeping roe from fish that will produce many more fish to spawn and keep the future of fishing great . It took me some trial and error to get this tie workable without losing the eggs off the hook . I tested it last year pulling from snags and what not and seems to hold well . These beads absorb scent as well .

  6. Great when smoked...but what fish isn't.. the Mennonites would come down to the Port Burwell pier to catch Sheepshead for the smoker...I'm not sure of the recipe but they were quite tasty. Best tasting Steelhead in the Great Lakes are from Superior....Huron/G'Bay is a close second.

  7. I'm not sure letting oil, that is "literally leaking out", pour into our lakes (especially smaller ones) is such a good idea.
