  1. The ice was garbage. But I don't mind. Been doing the early ice thing for close to 2 decades now, so I know the rules. Didn't have to drive to far north to find some walk able ice. And as usual, my crew was the first one out this year. The fishing was OK. Way more dinks this year that I have seen in the past. But we still managed to bring home about 20 for the pan. No minnows in my area. Huronia B&T was closed in the morning. So we went at them with soft plastics (not my preference). The ticket today was a 1/8 ounce tungsten tear drop with a single gulp maggot. Maybe one or 2 more trips for crappie, then hopefully Simcoe will be locked up and I can save gas money driving north!!!

  3. Gets a thumbs up this year. Talk about tackle, huts, augers and suits . That striker is a sweet suit, but it will cost ya about 7 bills for jacket and bib. Everything you need for your ice fishing season is there. And to keep with the spirit, we had ice pellets and snow this morning and still falling. And of course, granddaughter got here pic with David. It was funny. Walked by the HT booth and no David. Oh no. She was looking and looking. We walked around and made our way back to the booth. There he was and she went running. LOL Thanks again David for making her morning . Great seeing a bunch of ice hound fellas again this morning. After the show,it was a quick trip to Cabelas for the Santa visit.

  4. 1993 Suzuki Sidekick AKA Sally. I've been spending time on her, getting the basic mechanical and electrical back in shape. Yesterday was slow here in the shop, so I decided to attach the winch mount and get that out of the way. Ho yeah Sally's name sake, comes from my wife's Aunt Sally. An 80+ year old lady, that's rough and tough; but will never let you down. Hopefully the Sidekick lives up to its name sake. LOL The winch mount is actually a class 3 hitch receiver that came off of a Dodge Caravan. Cut off the the brackets that were not needed. Flipped the receiver upside down and welded it to the frame horns and the bumper's re-bar. Dan.

  6. Woke up 6am to find winds blowing, ice pellets falling. Not prime environment for the smoker . I was able to tuck it away in a safe spot for today's smoked turkey breast . This is my first attempt at this. 2 pans of apple chips. Smoked for 4 hours then pulled it and put in the oven as I was not getting the temps I needed to cook the breast even with the cover. Well after 2 hours in the oven at 275 with the door cracked, I got my breast done. I have yet to taste it, but dang, it smells and looks good. Reached the safe 170 deg. That is when I pulled it, so it would not be dried out . Tented with tinfoil. Funny thing is,there was this pop up button for when it was done. It never popped up. I am thinking it was stuck due to the brine. Once it cools off,I will sample it.

  7. Having trouble finding snowmobile tracks that will fit and I want to afford. So if my luck of finding tracks stays the same. I might chain all four wheels. I have tire chains for the front wheels already and have locked (weld spider gears) the rear differential. So I might get away with 4 wheel chains? I’ll post up dates as they come along for anyone interested. Dan.

  8. I did a pork belly this past summer and was a fan of it (never tried cooking it before). I did glaze the last hour cooking with some Diana's Maple BBQ sauce to add a bit to it.
