Gold Lake Kawartha Highlands (and surrounding)

Hey folks,

 

We might be renting on Gold Lake in Late July or early August. I think there's smallmouth but aside from that I can't find much info on it or the other connecting lakes.  They seem to be all fairly deep, so assuming  lakers will be there.   How's the fishing?  Thanks!

The only info i can offer is that the lake is closed completely from December 1 to 3rd Saturday in May as a sanctuary. The lake trout season may differ from other lakes in fmz 15, so should be checked. There might be largemouth in the lake. I have heard of catches in the connected lakes.

Ended up booking a cottage on a different lake - Kennisis Lake in Haliburton.  I know that lake has smallmouth and lake trout but I don't think it's a quality fishery.  I may start a new thread for this lake as I get closer to the date. We are headed up in early August.

That's a good decision. The neighbouring lake, little redstone, has great bass fishing.

Oh does it?  The thing is, I don't think I'll pull the boat out of Kennisis while we are up there.. Fishing was secondary on the list otherwise I would have specifically rented at a good fishing lake.  Just thought if we are there, it could be something we can do a few hours per day.  From what I have read, Kennisis is nothing special.  Even the lakers are small.  Apparently the rock bass have really negatively affected them. Hopefully, the smallies will entertain us, although I've read they are small too!  The cottage is situated on a beautiful looking point that goes out to 17' then drops off big time. Man, that lake is deep.. 250' apparently.

Fish Online  only shows  smallies, large mouth and lakers.  There's gotta be ling and whitefish. Might try to jig some up.
