Mercury Engine Question

I have read all the books that came with my machine - but what is the "Red Line" rev for this inboard??

 

 

year - 2003

 

3.0 litre Alpha 1

 

nothing extra added - regular series

 

Want to find my top speed with this motor on my boat with GPS so I can advertise to sell

Look in your manual for W. O.T. wide open throttle. Probably around 4500

You sure it's a 2L ?

Not 100% sure but they list a 3.0 Litre at 44-4800 rpm, and it's an inline 4. Quite a few years back somone rplaced a Volvo Penta with one of Mercruiser series, I do believe it was a 2.2 ror 2.4 litre GM block.

Thanks Ian - turns out with my 3 liter - 4400 - 4800 is peak and top range - only had her at 4000 on Monday and hit 40 mph - so will bring her up to 4800 this weekend if smooth and see what happens.

your boat should be proped so that they max RPM is at WOT, any more (over-reving) and you could be doing damage, any less and you're loosing max power...
