I know its early...but spring perch on simcoe?

My oldest son and I have really caught the perch bug. I have fished Erie the last couple years, but recently moved and Simcoe is much closer now.

 

When is the best time to get some nice jumbos? Gilford area?

Couple weeks before ice out to a couple weeks after, then they cruise off for deeper water. Sometimes you get lucky at the Orillia Derby, but that's been hit and miss the last couple of years.

I'll leave that one to Mother Nature, it can come as swift as the middle of April or as tardy as the first week of May.

i'm getting my spring (late winter) brown trout stuff together as we speak.
