b2kptbo Posted May 21, 2007 Report Share Posted May 21, 2007 Add the silicone around the screw head and bolt/washer before you tighten them down. This should be enough to seal around the threads and hole opening, what leaks out can be wiped off easily (more is better than not enough)... Black_Blade Posted May 21, 2007 Report Share Posted May 21, 2007 (edited) When I got my 12 footer out on the water the first time, I realized that somebody had forgotten to seal the bolts on the plywood. I got a few of those little water tap washers and used a little dap of silicone as well for insurance...been a bone dry boat ever since. I too found out as I put the boat in this weekend and water coming in on the screws....then started to tighten them and they just ripped right through the wood!!!!!
