Good luck with your new baitcaster. I just bought my son his first baitcaster combo at Cabelas. The guy recommended going with trilene xt mono for a first time baitcaster user.

Mono is great for a first timer, you won't feel bad cutting out $20 worth of braid when he blacklashes it like crazy, lol!
