steverowbotham Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Well another ice season has come to a close. It's a bittersweet day. I'm sad it's over, but now I can take a month or so to catch up on some sleep and turn my focus to spring crappies and jumbo perch. I had a very fun season, fished with some great friends and enjoyed some quality fishing. My first day on the laker grounds was January 25th and I enjoyed almost 2 months of targetting them. I caught lakers as deep as 123ft and as shallow as 53ft. I wasnt marking nearly as much bait this year as I have in past years, but definitely noticed more lakers coughing up young herring at the hole. They're certainly not starving out there. I also noticed a lot of fish coughing up gobies, which is the first season I've noticed this. Not to say they didnt eat them before, but they are definitely becoming a strong forage base for even the deep water species. I caught fish on a large variety of baits this year but my go-to's were definitely the X-Zone Swammer and a lipless crankbait. I got skunked several times, and I managed a few days with over 20 fish. That's the way it goes out there. High high's and low low's. I hope you enjoy some of these photos and my highlight video of the season! Until next season, Keep It Reel!
mr blizzard Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Thanks for sharing, those are beautiful fish and with that goes alot of great memories, hope the summer fishing is just as good. With -43 windchill today and four feet of ice it gives me hope that I can get one or two, heck I would be happy catching the smallest one in your pics Cheers John
Moosebunk Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Great ice season Steve. You got them lakers dialed right in dood!
pidge Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Man awsome video recap, some monsters in there for sure. Those sections of the vid with the really clear ice where the fish can be seen throug it make me cringe. lol.
SirCranksalot Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 Wow! Nice fish! "Well another ice season has come to a close"---on Simcoe, yes. But many lakes further North are still open for lakers.
