solopaddler Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 I've a 15' with a 40hp - tiller. The perfect rig!
jimmer Posted September 18, 2012 Author Report Posted September 18, 2012 I've a 15' with a 40hp - tiller. That boat would make it, but personally I would never attempt it and I have been operating boats for over 40 years. It's so tight in spots, with unseen rocks and boulders. Then you hear the stories of guys dying over the years. There is a way there without going through the rapids as Mike mentioned, but it's a little longer route from the south. Many guys have said that it's a worth while trip.
SirCranksalot Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 I've never been down the Bad River channel but I have canoed in that area quite a bit. With the small boat charts an a GPS navigation is no big problem. You could either go from Key River or from Byng/Britt. It's a bit longer from Byng but not by much.(and you get to see some spectacular scenery along the way, whereas going out the Key you're just travelling along a geological fault line with the possibility of strong West winds being funneled off the bay)
fishermccann Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 I thought that the max. was 10 klh within 30yards or 100 feet from shore-everywhere?
Roy Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 I thought that the max. was 10 klh within 30yards or 100 feet from shore-everywhere? I've been in situations in very fast water where I've had to gun it (tiller) just to maintain control of the boat.
