Is it ok for baitcasters to get dunked in the water?

If I accidently dunk my baitcaster in fresh water while fishing, is it damaging in any way to the reel?

Generally it should be fine, but if it was an older or lower end model you might have some problems but it's unlikely. Leave it out where it can get some air circulation and it should be fine and add dab of oil where needed.

Clean water- yes, dirty scummy sandy water-no. If dirty, just rinse off and open up to dry, then oil.
