ch312 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 so, ive cooked perch every way possible this year and i needed to mix it up. since i have never pickled fish before i figured id give it a try. i went with the method that uses no heat. salt and vinegar for 5 days, rinse, then fresh vinegar, sugar and spices. i cant believe how good it is. does pickling work well for all fish or are there some to avoid? any favorite recipes?
nroadrunner Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 my grandfather loved pickled sucker.... I never was brave enough to try it.
Dave Bailey Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I would do a web search for "solomon gundy recipes". As far as which fish work best, well, we all have different tastes, just try whatever you have. If you don't like the result yourself try it on your neighbour, he may love it!
Leecher Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I don't have a recipe to share but I had pickled pike before (brother in law made it) and it tasted great..... I'm pretty sure that other kinds of species of fish would taste great pickled Leechman
