young_one Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) For the next few days before and after the trout opener, the water condition will most likely be very clear. My ultimate goal for stealheading is trying to avoid using fish roe completely. So I decided to tie some natural/realistic looking flies, I started with stone fly. Speil inspired, but I think mine looks more like a crossbreed between a crayfish and a scorpion And hopefully I can fool steelheads like this one with my new creations Edited April 17, 2010 by young_one
Spiel Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 I'm both impressed and flattered.I think they look awesome and I've no doubt the trout will too.
dannyboy Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Nice work, I am sure the trout will think so also. Dan
fish_finder Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Nice ties man! What'd ya use for the legs? Those should be good for resident trout as well, if you fish for those too!
graham Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Very impressive young_one. I'm guessing your legs are raffia or swiss straw tied and trimmed, thats a lot of work but they make an awesome realistic looking fly fly. I hope they work well for you.
Leecher Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Awesome work young_one Good luck on your trout hunt Leechman
Dutchy Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Those are really excellent. Makes me want to get back into tying flies
