Kinger Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Hey folks. I have from April until September off from my college program and I was thinking about going and working at a lodge guiding to make some cash. What I would like to know is if anyone has a site or message board with information and horror/success stories so I can select some good lodges to apply to. I'm a very capable multi-species angler who subscribes to the scientific approach to angling and I have very strong interpersonal skills and don't drink alcohol or smoke ciagerettes. Any info would be great and much appreciated.
pike slayer Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 erringtons lodge is a nice place with good fishing and about 3hours or so north of the sault. good ppl there! http://www.wildernessisland.com/ if they cant help you i know theres other lodges in the area and they might be able to direct you in the right direction
irishfield Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 don't drink alcohol or smoke ciagerettes. Don't worry... they'll fix that pretty quick once you're on staff!!! A few lads here that guide for lodges and I'm sure they'll point you in the general direction..
trapshooter Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Your entire experience will depend on the lodge you work for. Send me a PM, I can help you out.
Kinger Posted December 18, 2009 Author Report Posted December 18, 2009 Wow, thanks for the prompt response guys. I will Pm you for some more info for sure.
tjsa Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 send a pm to pikeie, he worked at a lodge on LOTW's last summer. How he got in I do not know, but he will be able to give you some info.
Ramble Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Lots of choice in this country. If u have a choice to do a fly in...you wont regret it. 1st year can be rough but it gets better every year. -Dave

FisherMike Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 check out www.noto.net (Northern Ontario Tourist Outfitters) there is a bulletin board on that site and there are always postings from lodges all over ontario for guiding postions.
rides85 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Lots of options up on lake of the woods, I work up there guidng all summer, drop me amsg if you ae any questions
xeon Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) I also guide on LOTW. Basically, just be yourself, professional, courteous, funny, friendly, tip focused, and be ready for people with all different types of personalities. There are no "horror" stories. Just people who screw up. Also make sure to bring a large assortment of tackle, and ask them if you need to bring your own fish finder, gps, or whatever. Edited January 21, 2010 by xeon
