engine problems need help

I have a 98 100 merc starts up fine at the lanch but if yur still fishing for like 5 mins and go to start it u have to put the throttle down before starting and it will start. dont know if theres a adjustment i can do but any help would be great.

If you need to speed up the throttle on a warm engine to get it to start after 5min it is probably flooding. Lots of smoke after starting? One of the float needles in the carbs is leaking.
