lew Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 I use AVG anti-virus and like it but am not sure about one setting. In the Resident Shield section there's a box called "Scan For Tracking Cookies" Should that be ticked or not ??
tipupesox Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 I would let my AVG software check for tracking cookies. No reason why sites need to track your browsing, also can be a form of spyware. Tom
e-z-out Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 no matter what you do you will always have cookies and tracking cookies they don't slow you down they just help you load the page from where they came from faster. If your on 56K then leave them be but if your Cable or T1 then you don't need them so tick it off and your set. Hope that helps Lew
lew Posted October 9, 2008 Author Report Posted October 9, 2008 Thanks fellers, I'll put a check in the box.
Wild Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 If you delete cookies as an example you would have to log into this site every time instead of staying logged in. Tracking cookies may report back to a website which collects your surfing habits so yes you can check the box however I would manually clean out cookies and downloaded files manually as regular maintenance which is easy it just depends on which browser you are using.
Governator Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 I use AVG and I always dump tracking cookies. They are all from advertising networks from the banner ads you see on the sites.
