ShaunB Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Believe it or not a brown full of eggs came out of the Credit River today. Must say this is a first... was still fully loaded, but she's back in there to lay her eggs! Tight Lines
codfather Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 wtb very rare to see a brown let go with the eggs still in her codfather
ShaunB Posted December 14, 2007 Author Report Posted December 14, 2007 Credit is the home river, so we need to ensure it doesn't turn into a slaughter house like....um...bronte!
ccmtcanada Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 A surprise brown for sure! Kudos to you for releasing her to do her business...I need to catch a fish soon...all these great trib reports are killing me....LOL.
Hooked Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) I caught one last year, around this time too that was full of eggs, let go of course. I guess some just get a late start? Heck, I caught a chinook last week, still in good shape, took around 15 minutes to land kinda shape, and was clearly in its spawning form. BTW, nice fish Shaun. Edited December 14, 2007 by Hooked
ShaunB Posted December 15, 2007 Author Report Posted December 15, 2007 Just talked to a buddy today that hit one on the credit the same day a little south of were I was! Definetley a suprise usually it's all chromers by now
Musky or Specks Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 It all fine that you let it go. Very nice ethics. But if she was dripping loose there is no way she is going to spawn successfully. She has to make it at least up to the Inglewood area to find gravel that wont develop anchor ice and have cool enough water for her progeny to survive their first summer. In this cold water I doubt that she tries to get over the Streetsville fishway.
ShaunB Posted December 15, 2007 Author Report Posted December 15, 2007 I didn't know they had to get that far up to spawn succesfully. I took a walk down to the ladder last week saw a few bows trying to jump the falls but none in the ladder. Do you know why they keep it closed for the salmon? Do they not want them getting in to the upper?
aniceguy Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 salmon are stopped at streetsville ladder due to egg collection and the current managment plan, presumed wild rainbows are transfered by truck to an undisclosed location above Norval, to establish a self sustaining population browns are stopped at Norval. Streetsville is an impassable barrier as is Norval. Browns rainbows and Chinook are not allowed into the upper Credit at all. There is an Environmental assesment underway and craa hopes a ladder in Norval and an upstream barrier will be in place by 2008
Musky or Specks Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Does Norval have cold enough water to prevent anchor ice and allow survival of brown trout parr? I'm thinking it might isnt that where they plant the atlantics as well.
aniceguy Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 in a really exceptional yr yes but for the most part its thermally stressed and other then chinooks cant produce any cold water fish
canadian_copper Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 WATERS WERE SO LOW AND SAD THIS FALL THE BROWNS HELD BACK FOR ABIT!!! ALOT OF BROWNS BEING CAUGHT LOOSE RIGHT NOW!!! THEY COME IN ALL WINTER!!! WE EVEN HIT THEM ICE FISHING!!! AN EXCELLENT RUN OF BROWNS THOUGH THIS YR!!
