  1. I live on Bloor and this stuff always freaks me out, we were walking to the variety store, meanwhile just down the street...
  2. I use these http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/outbound-water-shoes-black-navy-men-s-1870389p.html#srp 10 bucks a pair, great in the water, keeps the sun off the top of your feet where burns are a killer. I'm with Iron on Crocs. Frankly on all sandals.
  3. ya you can see thats what we do normally, i was a guest on this particular trip and they made sure i felt included. theres actually about 6 or 8 people here, 2 adults, 5 teenage boys if i remember correctly.
  4. wow you guys have a different definition of fun here. it doesn't matter. i am curious because i haven't thought about it since it was caught 10 years ago. i don't care, was just curious for another opinion. thanks for coming out guys ..... edit to add: 3.2MP camera wasn't too bad back then! we had a random shore lunch and the cutting board is part of my back packing kit for sure. cleaning them up at the boathouse is definitely easier!!!
  5. lots of places when you have 3 teens with sports licences with a parent
  6. ya those are great lookin fish, i take it back lol
  7. I had fun in that other thread guessing the weight of that largie! I figured I'd post some old pics of my PB smallie in hopes that others comment with a guess at the weight. I've always said 5.5 but I've had people say 4 and recently I saw a solid 4.5 lb small that was quite small looking so it's got me wondering! Would love some input! These are the only two pics of this beast in existence. I watched this fish in a sunny northern bay for about 30 minutes before he finally took a worm.
  8. Hey all, So I often use Gulp Alive. So much easier than live on multi-day trips and with the 'variable quality' minnows I've seen around. I've got 2 Plano liquid bait boxes and they are great. I use one box with new good minnow baits and the other one is my leeches and chewed up minnows and whatever I wanna soak for flavor. I've got a new retail pack for a trip in a few weeks and I want to move it in to my Plano boxes. Do you guys keep the old juice? Or should I move the juice over to old bait box and keep one box fresh (this is what Im thinking)? Change them both out? I always figured it all stinks but I'm curious what others are doing with the permanent liquid baits.
  9. I've had a KVD bag that was stolen. Moved to a Plano Guide series I think. Anything with a solid plastic bottom is nice. Easy to clean up and stable. I would consider a backpack if I were always fishing from shore.
  10. Wow this is not what I expected! Small mouth bass are tasty.. Largies are a bit softer, especially in a bigger fish. A big 3lb small will have much better meat than a 3lb large. Ideally those nice little eater size fish around a 1.5lb are pretty similar in size and taste. I ate a 5lb large from a deep lake a year ago. Wouldn't do that again, flesh was too soft. None of this worm stuff but I don't think I eat fish from south of say Huntsville very often.
  11. Ya sorry great looking fishy, but that's a 5.5 or 6lb bass. I'd believe 4.11 to be honest. I'd love to see the 7lber you've got. 4.11 kg is 9 pounds+ and that just isn't even remotely possible. Using the fishermans trophy pose isn't helping either.
  12. I use 2 Plano containers. One for new baits, and one for used baits. Much stronger, no leaks, no problem. These things slay, I've fished them for ages and it's too good a bait to drop it out cuz it's a bit messy. Minnows are too inconsistent to purchase reliably. If you can actually buy 10 healthy 4 inch, thick shiners for the price of a Gulp you let me know in a PM......
  13. hey all anyone know of a last minute place on a lake for a cheap cottage + boat or camping + boat? just looking to get out of the GTA, leaving in the next few hours
  14. I know you said no Fenix but the LD02 is 30 bucks CAD and is a tiny waterproof flashlight. Great light. 120lumens from a single AAA.
  15. Thank you, I spoke to my Canoe rental place and they are talking to a person at the Kearney permit office to clarify. To the outfitters in the area, they are 5 days behind the season already. They want it open more than we do.
  16. I've had a permit for the 29th for a few months now. Not looking good. If any has other suggestions for this weekend I've started another thread. Would love other ideas as we wait to confirm the bad news today or tomorrow.
  17. Hey all, I've had an Algonquin backcountry reservation for April 29 for a while. It seems that things aren't looking good for ice out. So now I've got 5 days off, a backpack of gear and my St Croix UL and fly rod ready to rock. Any one have any ideas? There's 4 of us, we are hoping to hike or canoe into some fishing. Kawarthas is one option I think. Any insight or suggestions would be great. Hell, if you've got some land with a trout pond I'll listen
  18. I grabbed a new backpacking tent for cheap, no tax. bought some sausages, and some custom jigs. Had some expensive food, but it's beside the airport, not in Toronto anyway. Some vendors were not any cheaper than they would be normally but others were good. I actually preferred the other location, but I live in TO so I understand why the show needed to move. It did seem slower, but it's like it used to be when I was a kid when the show was larger. Short version: Going to the international Center was the worst part, good deals and show despite that.
  19. I've got an Ibanez Electric Acoustic (cheap, good sound, pretty), a Yammy Pacifica electric (cheap, sounds like a guitar, that is all). I really recommend looking at Godin and the other affiliated brands. Quality, Canadian work. This is where I'm headed next. http://www.godinguitars.com/
  20. do it yourself
  21. Meh SAIL or local shops. BPS once in a while but everything just seems cheap there.
  22. got a Pfleuger President 6930 and Stradic FJ 1000. Pfleuger is paired with a 6'6" medium Abu specialist from an old combo where the original reel was stolen from a bag. I landed a 10 lb walleye on it this summer on 6 lb test. certainly a capable reel for 50 bucks. the Stradic is clearly a level above, and it was a price above. It's running on a St Croix Avid spinning UL. It's a thing of beauty. It's the most fun you can have landing bass in the 2.5lb-5lb range. If you can afford the Shimano get it. I'd also recommend Pfleuger as a great backup reel or heavier reel that you wanna beat up a bit. I'd have no trouble spending the money on either, but you get what you pay for. kinda of nice
  23. well, i just got back. got my personal best walleye, a 29 incher which weighed in at 9lbs. pics coming soon the water was about what i remember but very clear last night, very scary! seeing all those piles you just zoom over every year without thinking! great trip
  24. I just don't see why they even bother with the stupid new cards. At least the old ones looked cool, and you put the tags on them. Now you don't put the tag on them and they don't look good and a made of crap. I carry the temporary yellow waterproof outdoors card I got in person at Canadian Tire and my printed online license tag for this calendar year cut down for my wallet. I use a phone case to hold a drivers license, debit, credit and a couple other cards. Cutting down on a card is great considering you need the card and the tag anyway nowadays. Keeping the fishing license down to a water proof piece of paper is fine. I would pay $5 dollars more for the picture of the walleye again though....
