Aside from the kicker issue ( which IMO is a good idea when fishing on big water) I think the other thing to research is the price of the options you want.. I.e. : a Gps/sonar combo or trolling motor.. Dealers usually mark this stuff up huge, so know what the component is worth before adding it at the dealer.. If its too much, buy it separately and install it yourself.. When I bought my Legend 16 prosport tiller.. I passed on the seats ($250 ea.) and the motor guide 45 lb motor ($799)... Bought a Minn Kota 55lb for $680 tax in and I'm buying the seats from Bass Pro for $109 ea.

Not sure about the boat, but you will have to pay tax when you change the ownership of the trailer.. Same as any other vehicle with a plate. If the ownership is lost, you can get a new one by saying the trailer is "home built"... Unless it isn't and has a manufactur tag with serial number, then give them that information.. Most people write receipts for less than what was actually paid to save the buyer money on paying the tax on the purchased price.

Good to see the chalet on the ice.. Hope the fishing gets better through out the season.. Those are some expensive perch thus far!! Looks like you have exactly the same jeep as one of my Co-workers.. And I mean exactly... Color, lift, small winter tires etc..

I can't see it being a big problem.. Run a dedicated power and ground and it should work.. Also, make sure the polarity is correct with LED's

I went through the whole furnace thing a couple of years ago.. Got 6 estimates from 6 different furnace installers and the prices were all within $300... A real competitive industry.. So plan on spending between $5500-$6000 if your going to have a furnace contractor do the job.. I now have a Lennox 70,000 btu 95% efficient unit, which replaced a 120,000 btu 50-60% efficient unit. My house took 7 hours for the swap, and that included re-working some duct work and disposal of the old unit.

Yuuuup I agree.. I would also add Kijiji, future shop and best buy to the list if you like buying stuff.. ifish Ontario is pretty good for finding lakes ( only lakes) too. If you don't have a GPS, then add Motion-X and Motion-X drive as well as a topo map app simply called "Canada".. The built in GPS works pretty good. Beware that when running GPS that the battery depletes stupid fast so you have to have it plugged in or not leave the app on when you don't need it..

Yeah I hear ya.. When I was underground the cage was pretty consistent.. Was only late once ( just happened to be the day I had an appointment).. My biggest thing is not seeing the SUN!! I preferred to work night shift during the winter months just to get a few hours of sunshine. If I could pursue my boss to go to a 5-4 schedule where I work at the shop, that to me would be the ultimate... Not much action on the lakes on wednesday's.!

Does anyone know if this app covers Northern Ontario.. (Sudbury )?? Judging by the map picture in the app store it's got a big hole wher I would go fishing.

LOL.. I wish I could feel your pain!! My wife is the polar opposite!! She's still upset about the bow mount trolling motor I put on my new Legend.. Her words: " what do you need a motor on the front for? You already have one on the back!!" I couldn't help but laugh! But to get back on track.. If your a serious buyer, I would go.. It's good to see products in person as sometimes Internet pictures don't do it justice. You can also jump into a Lund, then a crestliner, then a etc. etc. without driving all over town.. Take the saleman with a grain of salt.. They'll tell you what you want to hear

I usually buy 1 year, but this year my wife surprised me with a 3 year sport as a Christmas present.. Should get it in the mail sometime in Febuary! I think from now on I'm going to go with the 3 year as the last few years I've been having to make " one more stop" before going out on the first trip in the spring.. Seems I always forget that small detail!

Looks good and comfy.. Can't wait to see some pics of it on the ice!! One suggestion: maybe if you have the time and resources, I would suggest painting the inside with a quick coat of white paint.. It would make it brighter at night. Sure wish I was on the 5-4 schedule too, to have more time for fishing!! I sometimes envy you guys working underground.

My iPhone is surgically attached to my hand!! I use a lot of the GPS apps ( motion X) and I-Fish Ontario is pretty good for finding out what kind of fish is in what lake. Im also a Kijiji wh_re... Can't afford anything, but can't help but look.. Question: How is the navionics app for inland lakes in Ontario ?? I was thinking of getting it, but the coverage map looks like my area is not documented.

I believe I'm the gentleman in which the OP was referring to when he started this topic.. Up here in Northern Ontario and also Manitoulin Island the cormerant issue has become quite an epidemic. 10 years ago I didn't even know what a cormerant was, now they are everywhere.. Since they have arrived, fishing has depleted significantly -faster than any environmental issue could have wiped them out.. On my own lake in which I live on, the sightings of the birds pretty much directly coincides with the lack of fish caught.. In the winter of 05-06 perch fishing was amazing, you could catch a perch before your lure hits bottom, if your line was in the water for more than 5 minutes without a fish it because your minnow was gone.. This was like this all day, everyday.. ( now that doesn't mean I kept every fish I caught) Now fast forward to 2011... Fishing isn't even worth going out for, you really have to try all day to catch enough for a meal for one. Please explain to me how the fishery could decline so rapidly - and NO, there aren't that many fisherman on the lake - maybe 15 - 20 huts total. Also on Manitoulin island on lake wolesly.. Cormerants are feeding on the farmed rainbow trout and the native perch.. The MNR Has granted the rainbow trout farmer permission to shoot the birds so he can protect his investment.. But why do the perch have to change their spawning habits?? Perch on Lake Wolesly do NOT spawn in shallow water like they do in other lakes, instead they spawn deep, most likely under the rainbow farm nets... Why? To hide away from the cormerants!! Please explain to me why a species has to change its spawning habits on one specific body of water in order to survive? And whoever stated that a cormerant eats 1lb of fish a day, I believe it's a lot more than that. Or there's a lot of birds that go unnoticed because they are wiping out small lakes up here in a matter of years, not generations like sport fishing would. So I for one believe the cormerant issue needs taking care of NOW before it's too late, because things are declining Fast!! For all of those who are pro-cormerant and feel I'm misinformed - flame away at me.. But before you do - come live in my region and see for yourself.

I have a new 55lb powerdrive V2 on the front of my Legend Prosport.. If anything I can complain about is that it steers too fast!! One little touch of the foot pedal and Vroom your turning.. I actually use my hand on the foot pedal when im at the back of the boat because all it needs is the slightest touch.. That's the main reason I bought it, it has an 18ft cord, so I can sit anywhere in the boat and control it.. I use it mostly for trolling shorelines at a steady pace and it moves it along nicely.. Battery life is good too, 8 hours on the water and I still have lots of juice left. (size 24 battery)

Yes, Legends are made in the Smokercraft factory.. But to Legend spec.. Smokercrafts don't have the .100 hull.

Keep in mind too that if you are " locked in" with an electricity "supplier" for Kw/h rates that the time of day thing doesn't apply.. So you don't have to do laundry at midnight .. You pay a little more for hydro at night, but it's cheaper during the day.

I might be in, but yeah it's a little weird! LOL.. Trying to find time away from work is my toughest battle.. And I'm not much of a fisherman, been doing it since I was 3, but still not that good at it.. I just enjoy getting out there, not too concerned if I bring anything home -for me that's a bonus...

I own a legend too, so far so good.. but it's considerably smaller than what your looking for.. (16 prosport tiller w/30hp merc 2 Stroke).. The reason I went with the legend is the .100 guage hull ( thickest in the industry aside from G3) and the dealer was close to me.. They are also one of the few manufactures that show you how the boat is made from the inside out. They are made in the smokercraft plant, but to Legend spec.. ( smokers don't have .100 hull).. And their bigger boats seem pretty nice too.. Some models like the 16 or 18 Xcaliber models can convert from a fishing boat to a family boat in a matter of minutes. I'd say, don't rule them out while shopping as their reputation has improved in recent years. Just be prepared to upgrade the engine as the base package price comes with a motor barely fit for the boat, and watch the price of the options ( i.e. the price of trolling motors, fish finders and extra seats) http://legendboats.com/en/view/boat/2011_18_xcalibur

Great thread, its true.. Customer service goes a long way nowadays, especially with most products being "made in China" CS is pretty much non-existant.. Im a shadetree mechanic too, and i have getting the runaround looking for parts! Customer service is the reason I don't like Bell Canada... I'm sure a lot of you would have a story about them over the years.

You would think so, but no.. If you hook up stuff only to one battery, you wil get 12V, and the 24V trolling motor will be + on one, and - on the other, with the jumper wire between them ( - to + ) giving that circuit 24V My co-worker has been running that set up for years.. He runs a 24V motor, but the rest of the boat runs on 12V.

I must agree, what I stated earlier will work, but it's not ideal.. The one with 12V draw will be working harder than the other.
