Jones, you dont need a fancy boat and truck to catch fish... My last boat was a piece o crap, and I caught a ton of skis in it. As long as you keep using the proper gear, keep on fishin and posting vids....

I could see myself saying the exact same thing... When you are bit by the Musky bug, you dont wanna lose your first 50... I would be pretty serious too! Ha ha And enough broken records talkin about the net... Im sure Jones got the point already. Great vids, keep m comin I know you treat the fish with a lot more respect then most on St Clair! I guess because it is such ausky factory, some guys dont care about the well being of each one.

agreed. no need to get you panties in a bunch ppl. are you so offended that Frodo doesnt keep fish ? gimme a break. i am 99% catch n release as well. i do enjoy eating fish , but watching them swim away is great as well. there are many many lakes that have been depleted of fish due to " legal harvest" just because you can keep 5 per day or 50 , whatever the case is, doesnt mean you have to. some people dont understand the concept of release. i see nothing at all wrong with eating fish, but in moderation.... some anglers cant see the balance.

Not if you are fishin for the toothy critters as abrasion resistance is the main concern.

Scottys are a decent rod holder, but if u have any drag malfuntion when trolling at 5 plus miles an hr, then they will explode, and you lose a rod, reel, bait, and a fish. Also if you do any late fall trolling, plastic can get brittle in cold temps.The down east salty holders are much better suited to the strains of Musky fishing. ( plus they are esier to remove a rod with a lot of pressure on it. ). I wouldnt risk the Scottys, go get some saltys. They will last you forever.

Ifyou are throwing them back for others to catch, then Its not a great idea to hang them from thier jaw.... They more than likely wont survive. Big fish that are going to be released should be held horizontally with their body weight supported. The boca grip will work, just slide your other hand under the belly. Just a friendly word of advise... Great fish!

Sounds like you are starting with the right lures and structures. If u have gps, find the weed edges and troll or cast them. Iwould stay in the 4-6 mph range when trolling. Water is plenty warm for them to chase down baits. If you have no luck after a while, u can cast jerkbaits etc around the weeds, or try trolling open water. Balsam holds some good size skis, and plenty of pike and tigers.

If you arent close to shore, where is the fish when you are paddling ? Nice ski btw!

Best bet for the lower is the whirlpool. (from shore). As mentioned, if you are lookin for your first ski, the upper is a better bet. Talk to someone from a tackleshop (Grimsby tackle) to set yourself up with the proper gear. Large nets( so the fish stays in the water while you unhook it) good strong hook cutters (knipex) to cut hooks on fish hooked near gills/eyes, or just to make it easier to get out. Long pliers, possibly jaw spreaders. Braided line 65-80 lb test with a heavy action rod. Not as easy to just go out and target Musky without risking harm to the fish. As top of the food chain, and big mean fish, they are actually big wussies. Out of water time should be kept to a minimum. (as long as it takes to snap a pic or 2. Have your release tools/ camera ready to go so you are prepared when you catch a fish. Always hold a Musky( or any large fish ) horizontally, and support its weight by cradling the belly. Not recommended from a canoe, and especially not in the Niagara... Currents are to unpredictable. If you have the proper gear to target them, pm me, and Ill give you some tips on lures, and type of structure to fish. Be warned, Musky fishing is highly addictive, and can cost you a lot of money....

U dont need thousands to have the proper gear to target Muskies. You obviously know a little bit about what you should be doing, yet you decide to target skis anyway. To an angler that is completely ignorant of what they should be doing, theres nothing to say, because ignorance is bliss. Fishing for musky without the proper gear results in some dead fish... Period. Sorry for trying to protect a fragile resource.

And maybe the proper release gear if you are targeting Musky. You obviously know that vertical hold can be harmful to the fish, yet you did it anyway so you could get a pic holding it. Real classy....

Moral of the story is that even without the written permission, they can basically do whatever they want... Like you said, the charges would be thrown out in court anyway

I would guess that he would have to live on a reservation to qualify. Hopefully he respects OUR resources enough to not keep everything on the end of his line, just because he might legally be allowed to....

On the other hand, they are somewhat rare, and replicas are available for a bit more money...
